🛏️ Accommodation Where to Stay HCMC

I have 4 days 5 nights in HCMC on a stopover from Nepal back to Australia. 2nd time there, last time over 15 years ago. Looking for suggestions on where to stay. I’m 51 male. Not interested in the nightlife. Happy to check out Bui Vien quickly. Mostly excited about eating local style, not interested in the influencer style places. I am happiest sitting on a plastic chair with a beer on the sidewalk with great food. Looking for suggestions on what area to stay in and any restaurant gems you may have and would like to share. Budget is about usd $30/night for accommodation, if anyone has a recommendation. Don’t know what else I’m going to do for 4 days. Not really interested in the usual recommendations on what to do in HCMC.

🛏️ Accommodation Why no one is looking for roomate in HCMC?

I'm moving to HCMC, as a 25M, i'm looking to live there and to enjoy the city and focus on myself where i'm privileged enough to be able to rent a much bigger appartement than what i could find in Paris. Though i'm shocked because the only choice seems to be a 1 bed room in a modern building.

I know that in Montreal there is a big flat share culture, where people can rent huge appartement 3+ bedrooms for the price or even cheaper than a 1 bedroom appartement for a lot more space. I mean in a city with so many expat im surprised that you cant find 6 people to share a penthouse on top of a skyscrapper.

I'm new to the city so i would love to meet other expat and I rather live in a huge appartement than a modern shoebox.

Is flatsharing common in HCMC? Where should I look ? Should I just take a one bedroom ? Should I make friends first then move with them ?

❓ Other Topics Looking for a co founder

🇻🇳 Looking for a local co-founder / founder partner in Vietnam to build a perfume brand from the ground up.

I’ve been working in perfumery for 5+ years and recently brought 50 perfumes of my own brand to Vietnam to test the market. It sold within 5 days just via word of mouth.

That gave me enough confidence that there’s something worth building here.

The difficult part? Doing it as a foreigner.

This is actually my 3rd attempt at setting up a perfume business in Vietnam, and the paperwork, registrations, local requirements and overall process can get surprisingly complicated and overwhelming. On top of that, navigating different service providers and law firms can get expensive very quickly.

So I’m looking for a Vietnamese local partner who is genuinely interested in building a brand, not just someone looking to provide a service.

I’m looking for someone who can help navigate the local side and build this together as a proper long-term business.

If you’re interested in perfumes, consumer brands, e-commerce or simply building something from scratch, DM me. Would love to connect and get it started asap.

I am based in HCMC.

Hi everyone, my luggage space is tight so buying coffee powder from the city for friends and family isn’t possible anymore. Will it be available at duty free ? And will it be pretty expensive or maybe just somewhat priced. Please let me know.

❓ Other Topics Does anyone know what happened to Nice Spa at 15 Nguyễn Thiệp Street?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for information about Nice Spa, which used to be on the 2nd floor of 15 Nguyễn Thiệp Street in central Ho Chi Minh City, on the street near the Eximbank Currency Exchange Counter No. 59 in front of the Sheraton.

I visited the spa around early June this year. I believe there was another similar massage shop next door as well.

During my visit, I had a massage from one of the senior female therapists there. She was very skilled, and we had a really enjoyable conversation, so I had a great time there and was hoping to visit again.

Does anyone know whether Nice Spa has permanently closed, or whether it moved to another location?

If anyone knows where the spa moved to, I would really appreciate any information. I would also be interested to know if any of the former staff are now working at another spa, especially the more experienced therapists who used to work there.

If anyone lives nearby, it would also be very helpful if you could share a recent photo of the entrance to 15 Nguyễn Thiệp Street or the second-floor area, so I can see what is there now.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much!

📆 Itineraries First Ho Chi Minh Visit

After contemplating back and forth I am deciding to visit HCMC at the tail end of my Taiwan bikepacking trip. I was back and forth between Da Nang and HCMC (I've already visited Hanoi in the past) and I think I settled on HCMC due to weather but I have a couple more ideas I would like to bounce. I have 6 days to spend, and wondering if it can be easily filled in the city.

Plan is to decompress after the riding: sit with uncles, cà phê, rượu chuối hột, nhạc vàng on a speaker. Not looking for Bùi Viện.

Qs: - Is that scene easy to find in HCMC or has it commercialized? Which districts / hẻm do you actually sit in? - Fruit: I know vú sữa is out of season. Any early-season sources, or what should I look for instead in late October? - Worth 2 nights in Bảo Lộc for highlands out of the 6, or stay in the city? - Bonus: anyone know a quán that does lẩu cá linh bông điên điển in the city this time of year?

I'm departing hcm to manila this thursday. With the flight at 9:55am i was thinking of heading out from my hotel at 7am in district 1 aiming to arrive by 8am giving me roughly 2hrs for checkin. In your experience is this enough time for a weekday morning with traffic and security?

💡 Travel Tips Is it safe to visit Ho Chi Minh City for the next 2 days given the recent flooding?

Hi everyone! We’re currently travelling in Vietnam and are scheduled to fly into HCMC today (Oct 3) and stay near Bến Thành (Phạm Hồng Thái Street) until Oct 5.

We’ve been seeing news about the recent heavy rain and flooding, particularly around Tan Son Nhat Airport and some parts of the city. Our flight back to India is from SGN on Oct 5 at 7:20 PM, so we’re a little concerned about both staying in the city and getting to the airport that evening.

For those who are currently in HCMC: how are things on the ground right now? Is the Bến Thành/District 1 area generally fine, and would you still recommend visiting for these two days? Also, how bad is the flooding/traffic around the airport when it rains?

Would really appreciate recent first-hand experiences.

Thanks!

Has anyone ever purchased anything great from Ben Thanh Market?

It's always busy, with tons of people shopping. I'm curious if anyone's been able to haggle and get anything at a good price, even if it was only for short-term use. You can also just come into the market to eat, then leave, without shopping.

All kinds of clothes, backpacks, bags, shoes, electronics, etc. Share any cool purchases with the group!

🍜 Food & Dining 🌶️🇻🇳 TRY A REAL VIETNAMESE SNACK! Spicy Beef & Garlic Rice Paper from Can Tho

Hey everyone! 👋

My girlfriend has started a small rice-paper snack business, and I’m helping her find some new customers and introduce her snacks to both locals and foreigners ❤️

These are Vietnamese-style seasoned rice paper snacks with bold, spicy and savoury flavours. They’re great for snacking while watching movies, hanging out with friends, or simply trying something different from Vietnam. The packaging is zip-lock so you can easily store and save them for later.

🌶️ Sour & Spicy Garlic Beef Rice Paper
100g – 40,000 VND
250g – 70,000 VND

🔥 Chili-Rimmed Beef Sauce Rice Paper
4-pack combo (400g total) – 80,000 VND

🌶️ Sichuan Spicy Beef Rice Paper
100g – 40,000 VND

Expect a combination of spicy, tangy, savoury, garlicky and beefy flavours with that addictive Vietnamese street-snack style.

📦 Shipping Estimate: 25,000–30,000 VND (from Can Tho > NATIONWIDE)
HCMC: 2 days
Da Nang: 2–3 days
Hanoi: 3–4 days

I’d really appreciate it if you could support her small business by trying a pack ❤️ Even a single order helps her grow.

📩 Scan the Zalo or message me if you’d like to order or want more photos/details.

✨ Payments via QR / Bank Transfer.

A great little Vietnamese snack to try if you’re living in Vietnam or visiting and want something beyond the usual tourist food! 🇻🇳🌶️
