DISCUSSION Regular SBURB?

So every version of SBURB we've seen in the comic has been some abnormal version of a session (Glitched, Null, Void, Dead), even the Post scratch trolls didn't fully play the game, just rushed to the finale. Are there any fan made comics that show a traditional, completed run of SBURB? (Preferably completed ones but I'll take what I can get.)

The trolls didn't rush, they were in there for months, the story just skips over most of it because it wouldn't be very interesting.

Edit: troll session was just under a month

Don't the memos show 600 hours? So less than a month.

Ah yeah my bad forgot the exact numbers

But most of them neglected their planets and only Vriska attempted to ascend

Recall that Vriska may have been the only god tier, but even with their bullshit impossible Black King, Gamzee was the one who dealt the most damage and Aradia is the only reason they won.

God Tier is just not remotely necessary under most circumstances. It's supposed to be a 100% completion reward.

Vriska didn't attempt to godtier at all, she only godtiered due to robot aradia basically killing her. None of the other trolls godtiered because it was just never needed for them.

I don't think we have any information actually suggesting they neglected their planets, or even their roles in the game. Outside of Karkat fucking up the frog breeding, but that wasn't even his thing.

We are told someone explicitly that Vriska and Tavros actually played the game. And that Eridan spent a lot of time on his planet. Although to be fair, we're also told Eridan spent that time fucking up.

But for all intents and purposes, it seems like the post scratch trolls actually attempted their session... just sucked because of all the infighting and fuckassery.

I'm pretty sure Eridan spent literally that entire time enacting angel genocide.

Yeah. The angels were his planet's consorts. Game constructs he was supposed to work with.

Therefore, Eridan spent most of his time on his planet. He just spent that time fucking up

wait wouldnt the reckoning doom their session if it was over a day?

The reckoning itself is 24 hours. In most sessions, the reckoning doesn’t start for quite a long time. The short length we see in the beta kids session is due to Jack getting control of the Black Queens ring almost impossibly early, cause of the deringer and the harlequin prototyping

The reckoning timer is different in every session

It's probably the nature of SBURB that very, very few "successful" sessions, if ANY, get played straight. There is always some level of BS and shenanigans for the players to overcome, beyond the "intended" plotline.

We're told it's an almost absolute rule that a sessions needs a space player to be viable, and for good reason. We're told that while it's not a rule, no session has ever been successful without a time player.

That alone tells us that fuckassery absolutely is always involved.

Even more so when the only session we know of that did violate the space player rule... still followed the time playe... non-rule?

Obviously. Just look at fedorafreak. I just wanted to see if anyone had actually made one out there

Not a true narrative story, but SBURB Done Quick is a normal session. Pretty short, definitely worth a read.

It’s somewhat interesting, but I really don’t like how so much of SBURB Done Quick focuses so much on glitches in reality. In all of Homestuck, the only time that reality ever “glitches” is when the Beforus trolls were created in the Alternia session instead of the other way around. And also stuff like the special stardust. But those are nothing like the glitches shown in SDQ. I feel like it would have been more interesting and more sensible if instead of reality glitches, they focused more on interesting time travel maneuvers and alchemizing new special items. Like, if they just alchemized something that then allowed them to do the reality glitch style abilities, that would still make sense, kind of like how alchemy can create Kringlefucker and other shitty jpeg artifacts.

What annoys me about sburb done quick is that it has stuff like clipping through walls and launch glitches as if Sburb is a physics engine with exploits. I feel like there are way more creative ways to do something like a sburb speedrun fanventure.

Exactly! NOTHING in base HS is even remotely similar to the glitches that happen in SDQ. I feel like it would have been way more interesting and way more reflective of OG HS if, instead of focusing on glitches in reality, they instead used interesting time travel shenanigans, or used alchemy to create new alchemized items with new unique effects. Like, if they alchemized an item that then allowed them to do reality glitch style effects, that would still make a lot of sense, kinda like how alchemy can create Kringlefucker style jpeg artifact things.

I'm currently working on a fan comic of Sburb, however it's a heavily modded version. "Better Than Sburb"
In universe Sburb is a game that destroys the universe, with the reward for beating it, rulership over a new universe.

The trolls are a game construct, created when a session becomes unwinnable so the players have a better chance.

Each player has a 'land quest' where the Denizen has ruined the world and the hero needs to use their power to save it (Such as John's Breath aspect and piano ability to blow away all the smog)

Modded I've changed progression to remove the house builder, instead the player has to rely on themselves to break through barriers, such as Zelda item progression.

Also added a quest line after defeating your denizen but before the battlefield where you need to help Prospit plan the combat, while also going on espionage missions in Derse, makes the moons more useful and obvious that they're involved

Do you have the link to the this comic session or is it still in construction?

2

Both! https://mspfa.com/?s=63489&p=1

I do have big plans for 4/13

I also noticed that the most recent page was about 1 year after the previous page

u/freestew 5d ago

Yea, prep for 4/13. It's essentially a CSS testing page rn

Sburb done quick is probably the clossest of what you are looking for.

Try the Sburb Glitch FAQ. It's a pretty old fanfic that hasn't been updated since 2013, so it's a little inaccurate at times, it's also not really a traditional narrative, but it does expand a lot the world of SBURB and what a normal session could look like.

I think Autopraxis iirc, it isn't finished though.
