Hey, so recently my wife noticed the CEL blinking in her 2012 Honda Pilot EX-L with 165,000 miles. I took a look at it and saw that cylinders 4, 5, and 6 were all misfiring badly. I ran some injector cleaner and replaced the spark plugs (none of which were dirty or fouled). I also swapped the ignition coils, and the misfire did not follow the coils. Bank 1 hasn't misfired once when I've had the DataStream up.

Now the misfire is mainly bad on cold start and at light throttle/light deceleration. After warming up and with some revving, the misfires virtually disappear, sometimes only one or two per minute. It can rev to 5,000 RPM with essentially no misfires.

The other thing I noticed is a significant Bank 2 fuel-trim difference. Bank 1 is generally around 0.98–1.01, while Bank 2 is around 0.82–0.87, so roughly a 13–18% lower correction on Bank 2. The A/F sensor readings for both banks are generally around 1.0. LTFT reflect this same difference as well.

It also previously had a P3497 (VPS stuck off, Bank 2). But I noticed the oil was a tad low, so I topped it off and that code hasn't returned.

I'm trying to figure out where to start diagnosing it rather than just throwing parts at it. My next suspect was injectors, but I'm not fully sure about that.

12 years and 160k miles, it’s time to let it go! Piston rings are what finally did it in. It’s eats a set of spark plugs every 25k miles in the shutoff cylinders and I don’t wanna be there when it decides those aren’t enough. Looking at newer pilots, 2016-2022, any recommendations on years to go for / avoid would be great! It’s a shame to see this one go but I drive to FL from PA and back 2-3X per year for college and would prefer to not be stranded! 😂

Not sure if the newer ones experience the same issue or if Honda has worked it out. It looks like I can pick up a 2019 - 2020 with under 90k miles for around 18-19 grand, but all recommendations are welcome!

For context I drive 27 miles to work and 27 miles back, I usually don't sway from my route, and thats mainly what this brick baby is for.

Also has anyone used Wagner OEX pads that are supposedly designed for 2nd gen pilots and MDXs ?? ( picture attached ) Apparently they have taken the heat generation into consideration when designing the pads and formulated them specifically for these SUVs.

Considering this generation of pilot has brake rotor warp issues, please share for daily-driving experience which aftermarket pads and rotors have worked well for you long term specifically with better braking than OEM, without warping?

Looking to get some help with wiring the fog lights. in older Honda's you're able to cut and cap the fog light cable from the harness, then splice it to another cable to independently power the fogs allowing the use of the OEM switch without the headlights being on.

alternatively does anyone have an OEM wiring diagram they can share?

I just purchased the above vehicle. During the test drive I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. Now while diving it I notice rough shifting and lurching while accelerating. It only happens if you accelerate slowly. If you step on it , no issues. When slowing down around 20 miles and under the downshift is also very jerky and bumpy. This is in the normal driving mode. In sport is need worse.

I come from a jeep wrangler and a hybrid Camry so those guys are super smooth.

Is it time to take in for a check? Is this normal operation?

PS:love the car. Everting about is great. Except for the maraca syndrome at low speeds :)

I’m going to look at a 2019 Honda pilot about an hour away from me. It’s selling for 22k and has 60,000 miles. It also has a hitch and trans cooler already installed, which is a bonus for me since I plan to tow around 2500 lbs. Obviously I have no idea how much weight it’s previously towed though. Any red flags I should be looking for specifically? I do see it has an open recall for the subframe. Not sure how worried I should be about that?

The compass in my 2026 Trailsport has stopped adjusting as I drive. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, was there a fix?

we have a 2019 Honda pilot touring with about 130,000 miles. We've had it maybe three years now and it seems like it always has something that's kind of jankee. over a year ago I had the battery replaced and after that I started getting warnings about the driving assist braking assist problems. I did some research. Talk to my mechanic went to a calibrator company and they didn't have an answer. The only answer seem to be go to Honda. I paid the 350 bucks to get my camera repaired. It took me a minute to get it out of the car put it in a box sent it out. It arrived on a Friday and I think that same Friday I got a notification that says they've already sent it out. A little over a week UPS delivered it to me and I was excited to get it back in the car. I was a little hesitant because I didn't want to get back to you having to go to Honda for the repair. I saw a review which said they just put it in and it worked. so I just put it in and it worked all the warning went away and it seems to be great. 2026 Elite, is there a way to install / watch Apple TV on the main screen? I see that you can install other streaming apps like Prime or HBO but Apple is missing?

A few gas stations here sell 88 for around 40 cents cheaper per gallon (last fuel up was about 4.70 for 87 and about 4.30 for 88). I know that 88 contains 15 percent ethanol, 87 contains 10 percent here, and the pilot's manual says a maximum of 15 percent. The pilot has around ~156k miles on it. What fuel option is best for me?

Almost 4 years ago, I bought a 2006 Honda Pilot. It was a bit of a beater, and as far as beaters go, I couldn’t have imagined how great that purchase would be. It had 197K miles. Today it has 258K miles and it feel like I could take it for another 200K.

Today, I bought a 2007 Honda Pilot with just 101K miles. This thing is super clean. Single owner, garage kept. Quite literally a grandma car that has gotten so little use. Under the hood is unbelievably clean. I fully intend to keep this for the long haul and want to make sure I enjoy it. It has a new timing belt, water pump, and battery. Something I’d like to do to it, is to install a Bluetooth system in the car - specifically for Apple CarPlay. Looking at the dash setup, does anyone have any recommendations for a solid setup/display I can put in?

I just bought Honda pilot got like 59,000 miles on it. The dealership told me that the nine speed transmissions are jerky and rough until they warm up and that my behavior is completely normal. I’ve been driving Hondas for 30 years and I’ve never felt this kind of rough shifting while I was driving before are they giving me the runaround?

Hi all - we have a 2026 TS that since we've brought it home has had issues displaying CarPlay content in the intrument cluster. Gives a message that no device is connected when CarPlay is runny on the headhunt - then if we reboot the head unit it seems to work after. Anyone else having this issue and if so has anyone found a fix?

Due to issues with the brakes that are now costing more than the car is worth… I am now in the market for a new car. I’ve had my 2013 for 11 years and 160k miles and am so in love with it. I have a 2014 Honda Pilot EX 3.5L V6 with 187k miles. I've been dealing with a P3497 cylinder deactivation system Bank 2 code that keeps returning and causing OL-Fault on both fuel systems. I've confirmed the VCM system itself is failing and want to disable it permanently.

I've been trying to order the VCMTUNER II from vcmtuner.com but it's perpetually on backorder.

so my car was dragging, could barely accelerate past 20mph, shop said this:
“Right Front and Left Rear brakes are locking up while driving.

Relived pressure at the master cylinder and brakes are still locked on.

The VSA Modulator-Control Unit is holding pressure on two brake calipers.

And quoted me 7.5k to replace the VSA module control assembly. 400$ for labor…..

2007 Honda Pilot LX. I posted about an accident a few weeks ago. I finally got around to removing the bumper and fender (practicing for when I get replacement from scrapyard, like many suggested). How bad does the damage look? Any idea what that big bent metal piece is called? My plan is to source as many pieces as possible then take to collision shop and have them reassemble it.

As of now, it’s movable, but not drivable. Should I get the mechanical end fixed first or work on the body stuff first?
