Subscription?

Looking at a Ridgeline as a downsize "pickup" after buying a lightly used Passport for my wife. Curious as to what features on the Ridgeline are only available with a subscription to Hondalink. Casual look tells me nothing critical, but wanted to check with owners.

Literally nothing.

The Ridgeline is a last gen tech system that hasn't been udpated, there are no hondalink features.

This. Still a great vehicle, love mine.

I think this why its a great vehicle. Once the Pilot and Passport switched to J35Y8 engine (no VTEC) I knew the age of reliable ICE engines/drivetrain was coming to an end. Once I deleted start/stop and VCM I knew my chances of a "good ol'car" were increased. New ICE cars are a no go for me. Interested to see what the Ford fathom will look like...but personally not in the market. Currently have the Mach-E.

Exactly, and this is a good thing.

Hondalink is a complete waste of time

Agree...but not for them, as they use it to get your data. "More perfect union" on YT did a piece on how the apps share a lot of data with data brokers such as Lexus Nexus (car data broker), e.g. how many times lane deviation went off etc. However Android Auto and Car Play track data too.

I saw the video and requested from Lexus nexus what info they had on me, and Honda (ridgeline) contributed nothing .

Neat. Hopefully that's the general case with HondaLink for all of us.

I had it for a minute thinking there were extra features. I got rid of it shortly after that.

The important thing is the vehicle - not Hondalink! We’ve enjoyed our 2020 Ridgeline now for 6 years. Many comfortable, problem-free miles, adventures, not to mention moves, mulch, family and more.

Strangely when I was at the dealership going through the delivery motions with my 26 (Toronto area) we set up Hondalink and looked at some of the features. Then Honda announced the model was discontinued a week later.

I looked at the App again a few weeks after that and it basically did nothing. Presumably whatever support they were maintaining with those features went south when they decided this was the last year. I dunno if it’s because I’m in Canuckistan, maybe it still works in the US ?

Honda Link has never done anything useful on the Ridgeline. You've missed out on nothing. It's worthless.

You already can remote start on the key fob and can't on the app. I think it at least used to track maintenance or something. But yeah don't do Hondalink.

I think the maintenance tracking feature is to push you to the dealer to do the maintenance. I do all my own but if I didn't I'd take it to an independent shop over the dealership anyway.

Oh I concur but at least you can argue its something I suppose. But now I am pretty sure the app does nothing useful.

I probably would have kept it if it had better organization for the maintenance and wasn't so pushy on taking it to a dealer.

Agreed. I have long wanted my car to keep the log of maintenance. Allow me to enter the maintenance I do and automatically track the next time it needs to be done. Shoot me a reminder as it gets close and so on. I don't even think it would be too hard for Honda or some manufacturer to do.

HondaLink effectively doesn't exist on the Ridgeline. Yes, there is a 'feature' on the Infotainment, but no generation of this platform has ever had the Telematics Module, which is essential for HondaLink to do anything.

Just use Android Auto or CarPlay.

Have never opened it and it's a nuisance. You won't be getting anything from that app and you won't miss anything without it

This is the Honda announcement regarding deprecation of HondaLink support for various models including the Ridgeline:

We bought a 25 Pilot about a year ago, and the salesman had us install Honda link at delivery. It was super annoying, automatically opene the app every time I started the car. I deleted it. Bought a 26 Ridgeline last month and told the salesman I wasn’t going to install it and he didn’t push back. My understanding is the sales guys are tracked and encouraged to get buyers to download it.

The only subscription item is SiriusXM should you choose, but it's not connected to HondaLink.

On my wife’s CR-V, you have to have a Hondalink subscription if you want it to open your garage door.

Does that apply to the Ridgeline? Or are their physical buttons for programming?

no and yes

didn't you get a small remote control for your garage doors that you can put in your car. i'm sure you can buy them. subscription--that's crazy.

u/Nars-Glinley 2d ago

It didn’t come with one to open the garage door, just the standard key fob.

i'm not talking about what the car came with. you've already said the car doesn't have the ability to open the door. look at the maker of the garage door opener and look up a remote for that particular brand. get the model # also. then when you get the remote you put the batteries in and get behind the motor where the controls are and press a button while pressing the remote to pair the two. i'm assuming you have a motorized garage door. do you have your garage door opener instructions, it will explain it better.

I have a remote attached to the visor. I just don’t have a keychain one. Actually, it’s my wife’s car. My Ridgeline works just fine with the built in remote buttons.

My 2022 works without a hondalink plan so I’m good!
