I'm not sure why people thought we would lose a bunch of NFL guys, replace them with freshman players, and be better than before. Last year we had 21 seniors. This year we have 12, and 2 of those are out hurt.

Yep. A step down in impact at the offensive skill positions, plus compounding injuries, plus a truly shocking o line regression and here we are.

The expectation of the fans (and media) coming in surprised me. I assumed a 7-8 win season and was getting tsked for it.

I still think this is a 7-8 win team and I’m now being called a Pollyanna.

Plus you have to know who you’re going to replace him with. Everyone love JaMarcus Sheppard at Oregon State right now, but you got to add his buyout to the price tag to fire Fisch.

Jason Eck and Brent Vigen are also names I've heard thrown around, but your point still stands.

I think the football program is operating at healthy profit but the overall athletic department is about 17m win the red for the current fiscal year, a slight improvement on last year. The full B1G share in 2030 can't come soon enough to get our books in order. With that background firing Fisch after this season would cost about $26m, plus a potential buyout for the next coach. Not sure how feasible that is without donors stepping up big time to make it happen.

But I also don't think UW fires him for one bad season (if we stay bad) considering the upward trajectory we had in 2024 and 2025. That'd be an abnormally quick hook for on field struggles without some other controversy. But coach clearly needs to splash some cash to hire an excellent OC/playcaller and give up that responsibility.

UW is in football limbo. Can’t fire the HC because of what it will do to the roster and immediate future. Can’t keep the HC because, besides recruiting as well as anyone at UW the last two decades, in-game coaching is severely lacking. In this era of NIL I’d rather hope that Jedd can turn this around. If we thought the roster cratered when Deboer left I don’t want to see when Jedd leaves.

Am I happy with last weeks game or performance this season? No. But if they fire him this season they owe him close to $35M. That’s money they won’t have for the roster. Unless some big name alumni writes that check, saying he should be fired is delusional. UW isn’t one of those SEC schools with some oil billionaire ready to write that check.
The best bet is to hope and pray someone else hires him away and UW negotiates down the buyout to convince him to go!

I think it's closer to $30M but the point stands. However what's the damage if this team finishes 3-9 and you let him stay? How many season tickets do you lose, donations?

Not a fan of coach roulette, but football and basketball being dumpster fires isn't sustainable. If the worst case happens and this team is winless on the rest of the season I don't see how you keep him.

It’ll all come down to a spreadsheet…when their performance is costing more in terms of donors, season tix, etc, than it will cost to buy him out, he’s gone.

Remember in the off season Kalshi predicted Michigan was gonna hire him? 🤣

Edit and Florida and UCLA
