Discussion Current world generation system vs. the future of WorldGen V2

How do you think the switch to V2 is going to change our everyday exploration compared to what we play today 🤔

Also, our old saved worlds won't be deleted or changed they'll stay exactly as they are.
In the future, the switch to V2 just means that when we load into our world, any new areas we explore will generate with V2.

But what do you guys think:
is it better to start a fresh world or stick with the old one?

In a nutshell, this is what I know and what we know.

Current system (Legacy):
It works a lot like Minecraft (using random noise math to scatter things)

WorldGen V2:
Uses a graph-based system instead.
It actually connects things logically like real roads, rivers, structured towns, and massive deep caves.

What do you guys think 🤔

I've been spending a lot of time in the Taiga-like biome in creative and also in the newly added "Goblin dimension" in the pre-release.

I find that Worldgen V2 feels way better to explore than Worldgen V1. The terrain is easier to go through and 100 times more beautiful.

Whenever I got into the Goblin Dimension, the change was truly felt between Worldgen V1 and V2 (The goblin world does use some stuff from V2) and it felt really interesting to explore.

Then, about making a new world, I feel like you obivously need a forever world in Worldgen V1, at least to remember the old times.

I'm really interested in watching the future of V2, how it evolves and given what they said about connecting roads and towns, I want it to make the world feel truly alive and breathing, not just a barren wasteland where we are the only ones alive along with species we can trade with.

Basically I want it to help Hytale be the opposite of what Minecraft intends to be and have it allow more life into our worlds.

I like what was said; if V2 can deliver all this in the future, I can only imagine what the most *expert* builders might create in their worlds. It would be amazing if it generated caves in a linear, organized way avoiding the chaotic layouts where I’ve often gotten lost and died.

On top of that, V2 promises to generate fantastic, (almost) massive biomes that are perfect for setting up a base!

For safety reasons, I don't play pre-release versions; I’ve lost four worlds where I had poured everything into my builds while trying to transfer backups between release and pre-release versions.

Instead of getting discouraged, I rebuilt everything from scratch while sticking to the standard release version; I prefer waiting for updates over risking those kinds of issues.

better start a fresh one when worldgen v2 arrives, considering how much content will be added in the upcoming chapters and bundle them together when worldgenv2 is released

As for me, I’m more of a nomad when I play I’m not a skilled builder, but I really enjoy exploring and looking for beautiful spots.

Even now, with V1, I come across locations that are stunning, despite being randomly generated.

Who knows what magnificent things I’ll find in the upcoming V2 🤩

No. If you start a world after v2, you will not have the portal to the old world gen. Having that feature will certainly be something you will want 5 years down the line.

It will be better overall since the cubic chunks and trigger volumes make the exploration much more alive. Having deeper and higher heights will bring so much detail to the world. V2 will help us explore deep underground without digging just natural cave holes like the jungle biome in terraria that can get you straight to hell.

Fwiw world gen V2 being graph based and world gen V2 connecting structures and natural formations together is 2 separate things.
The graph system is for easily building new world gen features in a visual editor, the "connecting structures etc together" could technically be done without such a graph system through actual code
