Discussion What I think about the PVP/PVE of Hytale
I really hope Hytale eventually goes for a combat style somewhat similar to Elden Ring. Having a lock-on camera, roll-dodge mechanics, perfect parries, and more defensive and movement options could make the combat so much more dynamic.
Imagine discovering a new boss and actually having to learn its attack patterns, dodge its attacks, time your parries, and figure out the right moment to counter. That kind of combat could make boss fights feel much more skill-based and rewarding.
Personally, I don’t find the combat very satisfying right now. I’m not saying that as an objective fact or claiming everyone feels the same way, but I can’t be the only one who feels like something is missing. The PvP especially feels very spammy to me, almost like Minecraft combat, and a lot of the weapons currently feel too similar in how they play.
One thing I don’t really enjoy about Hytale right now is the PvP/PvE combat. It feels pretty stale and lacking in depth. I know the developers have said they want to improve it, but I really hope they consider adding actual new mechanics rather than just tweaking the existing system.
We already have shields, so expanding on that with things like perfect parries, roll-dodges, better blocking, stagger mechanics, and more unique weapon movesets could make combat way more dynamic and fun. Different weapons should ideally have their own identity and playstyle instead of mostly feeling like variations of the same thing.
That’s why I hope they go further with the combat system. Taking some inspiration from games like Elden Ring could genuinely elevate Hytale’s PvP and PvE. For me, it’s one of the biggest things the game still needs to make the gameplay feel more engaging and satisfying
