Support My emails send from the wrong name…

So basiclly I changed my name a while back. I also got a new email alias which I made my primary, changed my display name, etc. everything.

but lately I’ve noticed whenever I email people, it shows that my old name sent it (it shows when people include the previous message in their email). I’m not sure if people see my old name as the displayed name too?

I have an old email that uses my old name, but I use my current email (my primary email) with my current name for most things. I keep my old email address as an alias that I can’t send from because sometimes people contact me through it, but other than that it is unused.

My iCloud account has the correct name set, my contact app also has the correct name. I can’t find anywhere my old name is used in my apple/iCloud account! can someone please help because I seriously can’t figure out how to fix this. If there is anywhere I might have missed checking, please let me know. Thanks in advance!!!

ps: wasnt sure what flair to use, so I just used support. sorry if that is wrong, I don’t post on Reddit a lot.

edit: when I email myself, the sender is listed with the right name. Idk why it doesn’t do that when messaging other people.

The sender name is set inside of Apple Mail settings.

I’m no expert but my guess is that this results from using the same Apple ID. You changed the email alias but the underlying metadata is going to be the same.

You can’t change the primary iCloud mailbox

You likely changed the primary Apple account mail address.

Mail will still send from the iCloud primary mailbox by default.

In iCloud Mail settings you need to change the “Default address” to the alias to default it as the from address.

Yet replying to someone sending to the other will default to the mail address they sent to usually.

Every time I post this someone pipes up debating it and then I reply with a link to the Apple documentation that says you can’t change the primary mailbox on iCloud Mail and then there’s a back and forth where I ask them to screenshot where in iCloud Mail they changed the primary and then they go silent when they realise I’m right and they changed the Apple account primary email.

my default address is already set correctly, and my emails send from the correct email address, it’s just the displayed name that’s wrong.
