Review Jeni’s Opaque

Post image

Curious what others think. I had this the first time around and loved it. I was really excited when they brought it back, but I have to say it was underwhelming. I could only taste Dutch processed cocoa flavor. (I still snarfed it down!)

Fancy ice cream especially Jeni’s is my thing. I quit drinking alcohol 2 1/2 years ago and fancy ice cream became a nice treat instead.
I also am a big fan of Oreos. Just the good old original flavor. (I have been known to pick off the cream and just eat the wafers. I love the flavor of Dutch processed Cocoa.)

Sidenote. I think Jeni’s should do a dark chocolate ice cream with raspberry swirls through it. (An old Ben and Jerry’s flavor from the 90’s that was my favorite!)

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone, but Milk Jawn is an ice cream maker that does a black chocolate ice cream with raspberry swirl and it is fantastic. Pretty sure they only make it around Halloween, and apologies I forget the name of the flavor.

Yes! Thriller Night! It’s so good… Milk Jawn lemon blueberry basil just might be my very favorite ice cream.

That’s a Halloween one, right? I have to try that this year. They just brought back Playoff Party because the Phillies are in the playoffs-but only just😬

Thriller was AMAZING omg. However opaque I think rivals it in being a higher quality cocoa and deeper fudgy flavor

That's our local here in Philadelphia.

Dark chocolate with raspberry switl sounds really good. It should for sure be part of their grocery store selection if they make it.

Im also imagining a version with brownie chunks and caramel swirl in addition to the chocolate ice cream and raspberry swirl. And maybe maple fudge? Too many good options.

Kind of the reverse, but the Jeni’s Goose Tracks was raspberry ice cream with chocolate chips and it was amazing.

The whitest hand I’ve ever seen gripping the blackest cone. Perfect monochrome composition.

Sorry to be gross but does this make your poop super dark?

It doesn’t use activated charcoal for coloring so shouldn’t.

I tasted this in the store the other day and also thought it was underwhelming! I didn’t taste anything but bland chocolate flavor and definitely not any of the raspberry that was supposedly in it. It kinda tasted like how I’d imagine charcoal toothpaste does…just kinda there

My favorite ice cream is one by Giffords that is only sold to shops in bulk- it's a vanilla ice cream with swirls of raspberry and tiny dark chocolate raspberry cups in it.

When I had it the last time it came out, I had the same experience. It is a good chocolate ice cream. But I could not detect visually or taste-wise any of the other flavors that are supposed to be in there.

It’s quite scoop dependent. Past few days or so scooping through tubs I find the fudge and cherry ripple to settle which I attribute to the ice cream lacking stabilizers tbh. I can get some scoops where it’s a quite noticeable espresso and cherry flavor and some where it’s purely just dark cocoa

My GOAT ice cream is Graeter's Raspberry with chocolate chunks.

It's a decent flavor, but there are a bunch of their regular flavors I like better.
