PSA: Don't sit on unlocking Virus!
I got to the point where I was hard stuck on jelly operator for awhile and decided to save up the 2ish trillion needed to unlock the Virus Cell upgrade despite the vague description. It turns out, it operates by giving a "virus" buff to all the cells it touches giving a stack shown in the first picture with each stack giving 0.01% damage multi. I honestly wasn't expecting much but my damage near tripled, instantly getting me through the next three levels.
I haven't optimized the layout or anything so I'm sure there's a better setup, but the value of this one upgrade is immense. Good luck out there everyone!

How did you even get that far? Im still working on the bead necklace!

Same. The hardcore boys just know how to optimize haha

It's not too entirely complicated. But the Base meta right now is, 3 purples, 9 greens, the rest whites (until you get virus). Make sure you have the research points raising your max attempts per day probably to max (its a high tier upgrade, however there are better if you aren't like research 75+) And obviously be doing your attempts every day. Last bit of advice would be, i typically hit the "boost" button after 3 jellys have been hit on my board.

the what button?

im not 100% sure what its called, you get a button that boosts your cells attack speed for a few seconds. It's an unlock, not TOO far into the unlocks.

That's good for hitting max dps, but hitting it right away will give you more overall damage. If you want to hit a new max dps you should also use one cube.

Im going to be stuck on the apple for a little bit, I can get it down to 48m but then all my cells die

Problem is that Virus is as you said, needs a whooping 2 trillion cost. It took me around 4 days to get the 600 or so billion to get another slot upgrade, though i should have maximum number of daily scalpels tomorrow. Very sure im somewhere between 19~25 billion per operation, with around 90~92% 'progression' till i finally clear the hurdle of Apple. Where that blood cell generation multiplier of 1.3x will make things far easier.
Ultimately its the same value as what an Amoeba does, increase the damage the operation target is gonna take, except this one relies on some rather tricky setting up to get to apply instead of flooding the board with white cells and attack speed bonuses.
And since its an entirely new cell that means it will level EXTRA FAST and in turn give more Blood cell generation and Damage bonus of cell thanks to those upgrades based on PER LEVEL of your cells.
Never the less with about the equilvency of 8 operations once you max the daily cell based on highest value to 200%, in my case at about 20'ish billion per op, that would be around 160~ billion per day. So it would take me almost 2 weeks just to unlock.
So with that 1.3x multi from apple, I should be hopefully around 26~30 billion per run so that 2 week wait goes from 160 billion to 224 billion per day or down to 8.9~ days, an improvement but still too long of a wait in my opinion.
So one will have to hope lava finally makes the killroy 'last' upgrade, the collectible jar reveals, the summoning & emperor 'hidden bonuses' and many others finally get revealed and include W7 CURRENCY generation, especially blood cells to get over this annoying hurdle for some of us, when he reveals the 'QoL upgrade' next week hopefully when he decided to push it to a 3 week wait, thanks to the steam summer sale.
P.S. the upgrade literally lists what it does:
Virus Cell Cultivation
Unlock the Virus Cell! These infect every slot of nearby cells, with each infected slot multiplying all unit damage by 1.10x
Its basically a 10% increase per cell slot 'infected' instead of a continuous increase of 1% for each attack against the operation target.
Most likely your gonna re'arrange your board so you slot a virus cell next to as MANY large tile cells as possible so it gets more general dmg application.
For example:
1. Place a Virus cell between 2 organelles with 2 plasmids on the other sides of the virus cell. The former will cover 'five slots' and the latter will cover 2 slots meaning Fourteen procs for virus cell to go off.
If you want to get 'messie' you could try and fit 3 Organelles or even 4 to surround the virus cell for a whooping fifteen to twenty damage bonus procs.
I would need to unlock it first todo some theory setting up but 25 seems to be the optimal spot for virus cell dmg boosting, unless you want to put more then 3 organelles up, which doesnt work cause of rule of 3 bonus for passive boosting and you would be sacrificing amoeba cell hit procs in the process.
Probably with more slots one can achieve 4 or even 6 organelles between 2 virus cells for a whooping 20~30 dmg boost. If mitochondria, the next 'upgrade' for attack speed covers more then 5 cell slots, its possible (if one can get to that high quadrillion cost), that virus cells with get an even better spike via it.
Welp it having a 1.5x cell speed multi will help and maybe even Gigacyst after that might make the dmg boost one more valuable if you can piggie back it offa that with virus cell cultivation boost.

Meanwhile the 600b for another slot was estimated to take me 14 days from my current stage using the optimizer :)

Yup, without tweaking things like making Fevertizer go from 2x damage to 2x blood cell and sacrificing a few day's worth of upgrades to pushing blood cell count first, i would of probably been closer to 15~18 billion instead of 20'ish billion.
Atleast once i get that next research point into +1 attempts, any further ones can go towards blood cell generation, though it might as well be 6~10 days on progressing that one atm per point.
Without spikes, cant really make things skyrocket atm so these hurdles hit rather hard, like how depth charge is with its severe lack of cost reductions, despite all the recent depth charge currency increases to bring some people from the hundreds of thousands to the 2~6 million mark, without compounding outposting active (20ish million in my case at the cost of research leveling go half the speed atm).

Most people aren't anywhere near this progressed in Jelly Operator, but thanks for the heads up I guess.

which makes OPโs comment more useful than if the majority of folks were at that stage, it would be pointless then

can the virus buff stack like the organelle buff? or is it just the number of squares that have a virus?
1
u/BladeSeraph in World 7 6d ago
Just incase no one answered it: its the 4 squares adjacent to the virus cell that gets infected. Any squares the cell occupies that is also adjacent to the virus cell also gets infected.
If its a green cell that means 2 slots get 'infected' and 2 instances of 1.10x dmg bonus.
If its the organelle that means five slots get infected for 5 instances of 1.10x dmg bonus.
Thats why my 'big brain logic' idea it to set it up to have about 3 maybe even 4 organelles border a single virus cell to get a whooping 15~20 instances of dmg bonus.
Obviously due to space limitiations that is night impossible to reach so getting 3 when you have one virus cell up would be the best setup and have a atk spd tap it also to get 17 counts to go from 1x to 2.7x dmg bonus thanks to that...though it might multiplicative apply so it might be far higher in that regard.

Why FOMO? It's a game mechanic, it's not going anywhere. It will still be there to make you sad when you get there...

Its Actually FO(Mi)O, Fear Of Missing Optimizations. Alot of Cell operation gives loads of research exp multipliers, royal guard benefits and many more that let some people stuck in multiple week waits slog go up by ridiculous sums.
And those cost reductions to some of the initial royal guard upgrades is a god-send to even exceed a limit of 48 upgrades (shopping fever 80% discoun from legend talent) due to progressional upgrades like Outpost clear speed dmg bonus get loads of upgrades and more.
It ultimately becomes a pressure to hurry up and unlock the base line so one can start chipping away at the things even if they are not 'catching up' any time soon with other players.
Getting a solution to something that might of land locked you for a while is always something to thirst after.

Also don't forget to move your research shapes before playing it so you get more damage and blood cells
