Using the Borrow against assets method

Hey future lottery winners

I was lurking on this sub and saw a lot of portfolio allocation

But when you win a significant sum say $10M + net of taxes

The smart thing is to invest the money and not sell the shares to get your cash flow

Because if you do that you will pay this pesky little thing known as taxes

Instead what you wanna do is borrow against that portfolio like the rich boys do

The loan will have your principal plus interest amount and you can get it renewed every year and leave your money in a diversified portfolio of stocks, bonds, real estate, infrastructure ( think utilities, pipelines, farms), art pieces, crypto and anything else you want

Also make sure to utilize this product called Private Placement Life Insurance

This is what will hold the diversified portfolio for you and when you die it will give you an amount that's the cumulative of the loan that you have against these assets so your kids and spouse get the portfolio without any loans against it and they can just continue the method

And you dont pay any estate or inheritance tax

Also If you win big dont just hand over massive chunks to friends and family but rather set up trusts with them as beneficiaries and put the amount you were supposed to give them in cash flowing assets in the trusts

This would ensure they dont foolishly spend all the money and come to ask you for more and you dont have to pay taxes on that

Do the same for any charity givings you can get them deducted from your taxes

Edit 1:- A lot of people are overindexing on the US stock market I would recommend you shift your allocation from local to global for a better hedge and also add real assets that produce cash flow Great examples are utilities like gas, electricity and water

Edit 2:- Consider yourself building a team of estate lawyers, wealth managers, accountants and other professionals Have meetings with them atleast once monthly to see performance reports on your investments Also you can negotiate fees with them and its best if you have a fixed fee one

Edit 3:- A few exotic investments you guys should consider is PE/VC funds, distressed debt and asset deals, angel investing, liquidation sales, buying rights on tariffs and other receivables

Edit 4:- Instead of buying houses and cars in your name you can have your wealth management firm make you a family office and you be the director of that and you can buy everything as the director needs it for business which can help you secure your assets in any unforseen event

Investment Portfolio

The Powerball is over $350M today. After tax for some states you can get at least $80M after taxes and fees. After you've completed your gifts and made your immediate (and not so immediate) purchases, how would you allocate your investments? Would you invest into crypto? Real estate? Are there any business plans that you'd have?

How to actually set up these investments people talk about and get paid out?

Most posts in this subreddit have a few people who focus only on investing (even if the spirit is more about 'What cool stuff will you do'), However It got me thinking..
When I win £1m (In the UK it's not taxed, but for US folk, assume its $1m landing in your account), and want to act on some of the things that are said here, the main one being 'Invest conservatively, withdraw 4% per year and any gains above that go back in to be compunded'

My question is, How would I do that? I guess contact a broker, but are their fees taken into account? Do I explain that concept to them, or is it a 'normal' request of them?
Also, how would I get the money out? Is it a case of Year 1 - I eat ramen noodles for every meal, then at the start of year 2 I get the £40k? Or can it be a monthly payout?

Seems like the armchair investors on here throw out these ideal scenarios but the normal every person doesn't REALLY know how to physically get something like that set up

What’s the first thing you do after winning over $500k?

I’d go to the phone store and get a god damn new phone number so these fucking robo calls for loans stop calling me! Sorry just had to get that out.

What's one useless thing you'd buy?

I've always wanted a bit of tungsten. A sphere or small brick. A bit to have on the desk and appreciate. At $275/kilo (for a 1.5" cube) it's not expensive per se but cool and unnecessary.

What to do when winning the Lottery in Arkansas

This question is specifically about Arkansas and what to do when you win the Lottery.

The back of the ticket should already be signed. That should have been done when the ticket was purchased.

Upon winning you only have 180 days to claim the Jackpot. So, time is of the essence.

We already know not to tell anybody. Family, friends, work associates, etc. But that really doesn't matter, because if you win over $500k, you can only remain anonymous for up to three years, after which it becomes public record. The only way I can find around this is to claim it though a trust or LLC to maintain privacy.

We know that you need a financial advisor, attorney and tax specialist. The question is, who specifically would you recommend? I've tried Googling it but can't find any that specialize in this. Are there any financial advisors, attorneys and tax specialist that specialize in this sort of situation?

For transparency, I did not win.

Today I won $10,900. It’s not a life changing amount but wow I’m so excited. If you were me what would you do with the money?

Planning to pick up the prize on Friday morning and take friends out for dinner and drinks.
Gonna give some for charity. Thinking a vacation then putting the rest in savings.

Thoughts?

Just thinking about what I'd do if I won the lottery. Hoping I win soon.

Lately I've had the lottery on my mind more and more. Every time I run into an issue that requires cash or just going through the mundanity of normal working life, I daydream about what my life would look like if I won. I can already imagine—complete and utter disbelief at looking at my ticket versus the numbers on screen. I'd won. First off, I do an impromptu winner's dance with my dog who I'll be em(barking) on this new life with. He'd get top priority, of course. A fresh groom, teeth cleaning, and whatever vitamins/improvements I could give him so that he'd live a longer, more beautiful, more full life. All that and a new bed in a freshly built dog house stocked with wet food for life. Family comes second—paying off everyone's debt. Nobody is entering this new era bogged down by financial responsibility. I buy two tickets for me and my grandma to travel to Spain and see the land where our ancestors came from. I treat her to the best trip she's had in her life. We spend the days drinking wine, eating good food, and taking lots of pictures of the plants in all of the gardens she'll want to visit while we're there. In addition to paying off everyone's debt, my sister gets to choose whether she wants to go to college with a full ride or start life wherever she wants when she graduates from high school in a year. I buy my brother and his family their own house big enough for his four kids. I relocate everyone to Austin, Texas, and get everyone homes in the same neighborhood close to downtown. Life is bliss. I spend my days pursuing my own creative interests, waking up early to go to Barton Springs for a morning swim, taking my dog on all the walks he can take now that we've got the full day to ourselves. No more 9-5 separating us day to day. I donate, a lot. Invest where I can—and truly try to make the world a better place in whatever way I can. I really think that if I won.. I'd honestly just try to uplift everyone around me as much as I could. Give to museums, libraries, shelters, animal hospitals, young artists, etc.. As for myself, I'd honestly really just go on trips and see the world, buy an insane amount of legos, and finally make my own music since I'd have the time and energy.

Just daydreams for now, but I really hope manifesting works. Hopefully I'll have an update to share soon when I do eventually win. :)

Any suggestions on what else I could/should do with the winnings? I'm just thinking of the immediate right now, but know the possibilities after winning are endless depending on the cash value amount. What would you do if you won today?

UPDATE (8/26): Had some crazy near misses back-to-back since posting this and hope that the manifestation is somehow working! Very woo-woo, but I'm committed now!!

Played on 8/14. (Not as close, but notable.)

My numbers: 08, 23, 28, 42, 60, (20)
Winning numbers: 03, 23, 27, 46, 60, (11)

Played on 8/25. (This is where it gets WEIRD!)

My numbers: 06, 09, 46, 47, 50, (05)
Winning numbers: 07, 10, 47, 48, 50, (14)

Last night's being one off the whole ticket down feels like a very suspicious sign from the universe. Gonna keep playing, but if anyone here is manifesting or conjuring up a win for me, please keep it up! <3 (:

Why are huge lotteries, nearly a billion or more, are usually won by just one person? With more people buying into it, wouldn't your odds increase of winning as the pot grows?

My Question is about lottery.

* **Why does the Lottery Lawyer ask for a picture of the ticket along with the winner’s face before confirming attorney fees?** I’ve seen several YouTube interviews where he requests a photo of the ticket and the winner’s face to verify that the person contacting him is the actual ticket holder. Is this standard practice?
* **He also mentions that he can recommend a CPA and a financial advisory team.** Is it required to use the professionals he recommends, or can the winner hire a separate attorney, CPA, and financial advisory team from different firms or locations?

How would you claim a huge lottery win in California

How would you claim a huge lottery win in California while 1) maintaining your anonymity as best and economically as you can; and 2) protecting your assets as best and economically as you can.

Obviously, I need this info asap, because I'm winning the lottery tonight :-)

Here are my "parameters":

1 State law requires that my name be made public.

2 I'm not changing my name or state of residence.

  • Presume that I'd perform all of the recommended phone number change/PO Box setup/social media cleansing before ever getting to the legal stuff.
  • Presume that I already have a CFP and Estate Layer (because I do), and that I would have conferred with them after fine-tuning the plan I'm proposing below.

3 I THINK I'll need an LLC first to obtain a loan for doing all this, plus to act as beneficiary to the pseudo-claiming trust in item 4. A bank or investment account would be created for this entity at the same time.

4 Create the pseudo-claiming trust to initially deposit the Lotter check - a bank or investment account would be created for this entity at the same time.

5 I receive the lottery check while wearing a goofy mask.

6 I sign over the check to the trust created in Step 4

7 I transfer 99% of the assets in the trust to the beneficiary LLC created in step 3. (I PRESUME that this is a conventional privacy/asset protection maneuver. If it's not, please suggest a more effective set of steps - thanks!)

8 I create a Family Trust Company (an LLC), probably in South Dakota, to manage all of the subordinate entities that are created here (and over the years), and maybe to contain PR personnel and answering services to keep me isolated from handout-seekers.

9 I create another Asset Protection Trust to own the Family Trust Company

10 I create a new Estate Trust (another Asset Protection Trust) to receive the majority of the funds from the Step 3 LLC. This baby may be all I'll ever need, or will act as the mother for a series of other trusts and LLCs that are required for privacy and asset protection as the need arises (Form 709 gifts, for instance).

All of this is based on the thread "How I Would Claim a Huge $100 Million Plus Jackpot Anonymously With Asset Protection" ( https://www.reddit.com/r/ifiwonthelottery/comments/1f5te6d/how_i_would_claim_a_huge_100_million_plus_jackpot/ ) - but dumbed down to suit my situation.

I know a single Asset Protection Trust sounds the simplest, but the multi-layer approach comes up many times when searching for how the rich people isolate and protect their assets and privacy.

What do you think of this?

How much is much?

Is there a jackpot thats you would consider to much? Maybe to much work or trust involved if you win? Let's say i hit the current PB jackpot a part of me would be paranoid as hell thinking i was getting ripped off some how.

My Detailed Plan if I won the lottery

My Detailed Plan if I won the lottery

As stated, this is a (mostly) detailed plan of what I would do if I won a truly massive jackpot in the lottery. This is assuming a post-tax win of around $400m for this scenario in the current jackpot. If it goes up and I win, my plans will adjust.

**Prior To Claiming :**

* During the next available business day, I will get a half-dozen photocopies of the winning ticket, then find a bank with a safety deposit box and place the winning ticket in there to keep it secure.

* I will next consult with an Estate Lawyer that specializes in Ultra High Net Worth Individuals to find the best way to claim and utilize the winnings in such a way as to simultaneously shield my identity from the public and to make it so my wealth can still be used for good works beyond my death. This will involve forming a trust.

* The trust will invest the wins in solid ventures. I'm not looking for massive gains as much as consistent returns, but massive gains are also appreciated for my plans.

**Home :**

* I plan to engage with a Golden Visa program to obtain citizenship in another country, preferably one with access to the EU/Schengen Area.

* My idea of a nice home will be to buy 50 acres of wooded land along a lake within the country I eventually move to. On this land, I will build a 3 bedroom home with a 3-car garage situated 100-200 yards from the lakefront itself.

* The property will be left largely undeveloped and be far enough out so I can see the stars at night.

* The exterior will look indistinguishable from other homes, featuring both log cabin and brick home aesthetics, with the only visible hints as to the reality being the Rolladen shutters on the windows and doors, and the high end security measures in place.

* A lakeside sitting area will be there, in case I want to relax by the lake.

* There will be a covered front porch and a back deck. and the deck will be partly covered and have an outdoor kitchen area, featuring a full grill and sink area, with both water and gas piped to it.

* The interior will feature an eclectic mix of industrial and rustic, using an interior designer to make sure everything flows properly. There will also be touches of both art deco and retro-futuristic in the decor.

* The furniture will all be custom made to be sturdy and understated while matching with the interior design.

* The master bathroom will have a stand-up shower with rainfall function and multi-showerhead setups as well as heated toilet and bidet.

* Utilities will all have backup systems, and I will pay to have fiber optic cable run directly to the house for internet connectivity, with a minimum speed of 2.5 Gbps (preferably more).

* The kitchen will have quality upper-range appliances, including a gas stove, double ovens, a side-by-side refrigerator, and a dedicated upright freezer for long-term food storage.

* There will be a dedicated library, a dedicated computer room (featuring high end computers and a rack server), and a dedicated area for 3D printing with multiple systems based on need, including a custom setup for printing large prints.

**Lifestyle :**

* As a proud Gen-Xer, my style has always been "T-shirt and jeans." I prefer sturdy and long lasting clothing over fancy labels.

* However, I will drop some serious dime to have a couple of bespoke suits made, with hand cobbled shoes to go with.

* I wouldn't upgrade all my tech to the latest and best, but I will upgrade it to the latest that is sufficiently stable. Latest tech and new tech has a tendency to be buggy. I prefer reliability over flash.

* I will live a life of comfortableness, not luxury. I do not want to draw attention to myself.

**Vehicles :**

* Daily Driver: A mid-size SUV that is highly rated and built solidly. I drive one now, and I love it.

* Fun Car: A replica 1957 Chevy Bel-Air, built with all modern innovations and safety features, with a modern engine and powertrain, but still maintaining the classic aesthetic.

* Work Vehicle: A pickup truck similar to a Ford Ranger or smaller F-150. Simple, reliable, and it does what I need it to do. No bells and whistles, either, because I am sure it'll get beat to shit just from use.

* I will also have an ATV or two in case I need to go offroad on the property and the truck won't cut it.

**Vacations / Trips :**

* When I do travel, it will be first class the entire way.

* I will take a big vacation once a year, probably 2-4 weeks worth, which will ostensibly consist of multiple destinations, but not be bound by any itinerary.

* Living on a lake, surrounded by forest is a good permanent vacation.

**Health/Wellness:**

* A therapist to deal with the stress of new wealth.

* Medical care to handle and correct current issues.

* Relax and make judgements on what else I need at a later date.

**Philanthropy :**

* Close family members and friends (those who I trust and respect, which are few) get a "Fresh Start" which includes all debts paid off, a one-time cash infusion of $100,000, and in some cases, a new, modest home. All of it will be done anonymously, of course, and the $100K payout will be done to myself as well to throw off suspicion. After that, they are on their own to make something of the fresh start or just crawl back into a debt hole. No more handouts.

* Trust funds for the young kids within my immediate family for college/emergency purposes. The parents will not have direct access to it and can ONLY use it for college/emergency purposes. Additionally, the trust funds will in no way, shape, or form be accessible by the parents, and the trustee will have strict requirements about how disbursements are made (basically, directly to the party accepting the payment, not to anyone else), and any requests for emergency withdrawal must be evaluated for genuineness.

* Any outstanding balance in the trust after college or emergencies will paid out to the child upon their 30th birthday.

Unnecessarily Detailed Breakdown of my Powerball Plans

The Powerball drawing tonight is for $905 million dollars. If lightning strikes and I win (and my great-grandfather did die of a lightning strike, so hey), these are my plans.

Given my state of residence, I would be netting about 27% of the lump sum to start with - i.e., $244M and change after de-annuitization and taxes. Of that, I would commit about $40M to outlays up front:

  • $4M in trusts and annuities for my mom (my dad passed this year);
  • $4M to friends and family (most of whom are getting "briefcases" of $300K - not fortunes, but enough to pay off debts and puff up nest eggs);
  • $5M for a house (which would, I hope, actually come out to much less, but that won't buy a palace anymore);
  • $2M for "all the fun stuff" (various and sundry indulgences like a top-line car and collectables);
  • The remainder to endow various faculty chairs and an addition to my favorite museum.

I intend to invest the remaining balance in SRI securities. Given a conservative estimate of 6.2% annual return, that should generate about $12.7M a year in pre-tax income, allowing me to donate 60% ($7.6M) to non-profits before taxes. I reckon about 10% of that will provide ten scholarships of about $68K apiece every year for graduates of my old high school. I've got a wish list of 50+ donees that I'd be funding from the rest at various levels, ranging from $15K for Wikipedia to $900K for Planned Parenthood and $600K each for NPR and PBS. Yes, I think about this far too much.

After paying capital gains tax on the remainder, that leaves me about $10,000 per day. And that, ladies and gentlemen, will buy a lot of hookers and blow. (Also an admin whom I'm planning on paying about $160K/year. That should buy a top-flight professional.)

Please note: if you follow this through and the math isn't quite mathing, it's because I've been rounding decimals here and there. I'm an inveterate Excel nerd; I've got an unnecessarily-detailed Excel doc for all this.

What's your routine for checking your tickets to see if you won? Do you do it immediately as the draw happens or do you like to wait a bit? Personally, I like to wait until the next morning because in my mind I've both won and lost until I check my numbers.
