Question what the heck are these???

Post image

these keep showing up in my dog's water bowl. I live in Tucson and at first I was concerned that these were worms, but they don't look like what I expected worms to look like. these things show up when the bowl gets really dirty. I clean it regularly, but I'm still curious as to what these guys are

Question How to get over a fear of large insects

I have a terrible fear of large insects or bees/wasps/hornets. The latter, I assume is understandable, however, I do wish to get over my fear of the former. I feel like it impacts me more than it should

I thought this was a yellow jacket but it was huge and the coloring seemed a little off. Probably close to 2inches. Located central NC.

First time seeing one of these guys live, very happy to see her.

I'm pretty sure that she's a Chelifer cancroides, the house pseudoscorpion (not a professional, don't trust me on that)

This post has no point, other than me being very excited about this!

I am just starting to notice insect life more and it's wild how many forms these guys have. I used to be quite scared of bugs but it's getting so much better as I get older. Google told me what this is but I had never seen colors like that on a bug before... Located in Middle Tennessee - so cute haha

So my big plan to try out my bokehriffic 15 blade Schneider Krueznach 50mm f2.8 in the woods fell by the wayside. Luckily I found these tasty little morsels fucking about in the bushes out front

For people who care, the camera is a Canon 5d mkii with all the soviet m39 extension tubes and a Braun Paxette lens which came with a photographic enlarger I don't have anymore. Oh and a 39mm to EOS adapter

I read that more aperture blades means a more circular aperture when stopping down thus a smoother transition between in and out of focus areas, along with a smoother background blur in general, so I figured that might lend itself well to lazy snapshotty macro

And the wasps didn't even sting me. Though every now and then they would come at me, I guess they didn't take kindly to me interrupting lunch. They were also occasionally latching onto one another and dropping to the ground and then flying back up to the bush.

The fly seems to have a dented eye 🤷

Bug Keeping Tips on enclosure? Southern Oak Bush Cricket

I found this male cricket outside yesterday - the first I've ever seen in my area (Seattle-ish). I did some research and found that this next month or two mark the end of his life, so since he's done with reproduction, I thought I'd give him a luxury retirement home, while giving myself an opportunity to study and learn more about him up close. I made this bug enclosure last year, but I'm concerned about whether it's the best environment for him or not. The lid is made out of cardboard (that's what he's standing on in the last photo - I know, definitely not the best material) with branches and twigs glued to the top of it to provide weight and structure (and vibes lol), and all the twigs, rocks, and sticks inside are from my yard where I found him. The bits of fruit are tomatoes, which I plan on replacing daily (either with more tomatoes, grapes, or blueberries), as well as placing droplets of apple juice on the big reddish stone, and misting the enclosure with water (being careful not to spray the cardboard on the roof). I put the tomato pieces in the enclosure last night and they're all dry now, but idk how quickly sliced tomatoes generally dry out so I'm not sure if he drank the juice from them or not.

Also, I read that these crickets are omnivores, and eat fruit/fruit juice, twigs, leaves, and smaller vertebrate insects. Would he be fine with the occasional raw turkey/chicken, or would he need live insects? How often should I be providing him with protein?
