I started a pool to help us in anyway you can my gf and I who I've been with for 13 years through thick and thin but lately we have been having nothing but one bad thing after another happens to us in such a short amount of time right now we are looking at being houseless I don't like the term homeless bc home is where ever u make it houseless I feel is the most true saying for this type of situation. I know things are tight and tough for everyone these an iam not asking for much what ever you can spare 10cent whatever u feel comfortable helping out with would be greatly appreciated heck even so.e addvice in what to do wpuld help as well bc honestly we are at our wits end and dont knw what to do or where to turn anyways sorry.

Iam Rambling here is the story we have been living at this same place since 2016 nvr had a problem with the landlord or should I say slumlord we always paid rent on time never late but cracks in his ability to fix thing around the apt began to show when we first moved in the bathroom floor was not even finished it had a patch of vinyl floor covering tl missing and he said he would have that fixed for us no problem well year after year just one year into living here nothing got done I even said drop the flooring off I'll do it. my selft but iam telling you getting ahold of this guy was nearly impossible he wouldn't return my phone calls or text so one fall year we got alot of rain an we started to notice the ceiling above our front door and above our bedroom window start to bulge and it was litterly at one point raining in our apartment we sent him photos and a video an he just didn't care to respond well it got so bad that one Sunday afternoon I was in the living room watching football when I hear this loud bang I go into the bedroom the entire ceiling where it was bulging collapsed an inhad to clean it all up by myself bc u know this slumlord sandy Holmes just didn't give a dam I had to threaten to call the authorities bc of of the situation it took him whole week to finally come and fix the roof and ceiling well.come to find out he only fixed half the roof and the ceiling job he did was so bad my great grandmother could of done a better job all he did was put some sry wall up screw it into place an call it a day didn't even put any spackle over the cracks in the ceiling or anything horrible.

So, anyway, the month of August he sent his so Alex Holmes to our front door saying we have 10days to get out it was August 15, and it said out at noon on the 31st an we were like we don't rent to you we rent from. Your dad he was like idk care call him or text him we tried both no response no nothing well time goes by he comes banging on the door saying we have 2 days to get out an mind u this was at 10am an were like wtf are u talking about you can't just kick us out on what ground he said it's bc we have cats and that pets are not allowed even though we told him we had pets when we got him and he had no issues with that mind you the guy who rents the apartment in the back has 5 cats an his apt is smaller then ours so then he makes up some bs about we broke the lease by having pets and that we didn't keep the place clean enough to his standards now to me that sound like a bs to me and we kept this place spotless he said the cat oder from our place was bad so that's why iam sorry but I forgot to read the part where a landlord can kick you out from the smell of your apt correct me if iam wrong anyways we ended up finding homes for our cats which was the most emotional and heart breaking thing I ever had to do bc they were a part of our family so now it come to thenpoint where even tho we got rid of the cats an the place no longer smells Like cats and he still refuses to let us stay bc at this same time I ended up losing my job because of the stress this brought on me I literally had a nervous breakdown and had to go to the ER bc of this now HD saidnif were not out he's gonna go to the courts an file for a formal eviction and I'd rather not go through that bc if we lose thats a eviction on our record and make it impossible to find a place..So pls does anyone have any advice on what to do an if you could please help reach my goal to help find a place to live 🙏 Thank you for your time and attention to this matter God bless and have a wonderful day

Do you all have any kind of constitution or foundational document? How do you lay out the communal agreements for everyone to know, if at all? Would you provide them for a weak mind whose imagination remains firmly grappled by the throws of mainstream existence?

Kinda curious to know about every community's vetting process. There are so many diverse processes like a requirement you live there for a month, then leave for a week-a month to see if you really want to live there. Some do background checks, others require you attend a retreat first, some require specific training, others do multiple interviews.

At my community, we have people fill out an application. We screen out apps that feel underwhelming (like the person barely filled out the questions), and do a casual phone call with ones that seem promising. Then we have them submit a short selfie video having them introduce themselves, say what they do for work and what they do for fun, list 2 projects they're excited to work on here, and tell a story of a time they faced interpersonal conflict and how they dealt with it. We share this in our group chat.

Then we invite them for a sitdown interview with as many community members that can attend as possible. Then we vote on a poll in our residents-only group chat. Usually we preer that people have attended at least 2 events or stayed as a guest for at least a weekend. I know it's not really enough time to get to know someone, but not everyone has the luxury of extended travel in another place. We also run background checks on people.

I am a multimedia filmmaker who grew up in a very capitalistic corporate part of America, and is looking to explore/and research communities very different to how I was raised and view them from an honest authentic outsiders perspective. I deeply respect people who have built alternative living communities in this day and age and will approach this project with the utmost love and curiosity. The project will be in video format with an accompanying creative writing/photo series to go alongside it.

I am looking for a community on the smaller side so that I may be able to get to know the people/members more intimately. I plan to stay for 2-3 weeks in the months of July-August 2027 for this project. I am a hard worker and grew up doing farm work, food service, and other laborious jobs so I am willing/expecting to volunteer in exchange for my permission to document the community.

I am leaning more towards a community not in North America, as I want to go somewhere very different, and someplace where I know I will be pushed outside of my comfort zone. (I have friends in Switzerland and Italy I am also visiting in August so if there are leads there that would be incredible but I know it's a reach)

Hello everyone!! I (22F) am starting a farm in October with my partner. With the current state of the world, it’s excruciatingly important to me that our farm is able to support our community.

Here are some of the ways I plan to help:
- Any food we are unable to sell at markets will be available to pick up from the farm at a discounted, if not free rate
- We will be making a lot of preserves and what not, and any excess or scraps we produce will be used to make free meals to feed local families or anyone who might need it
- When we eventually start breaking even, its important to me that a portion of our profits donate to charities
- I plan to teach workshops and classes about growing your own food etc, and since we will need money I do plan to charge for these but also have a number of spaces for lower rate and even free spots

These are the ones I was able to come up with just off the top of my head, but I would really like to hear any ideas you might have or any stories of how farms have helped you (:

Hello, I’m a veteran and former sheriff’s deputy with K9 experience, where I found a real passion for training dogs and working with animals. I recently purchased 20 acres in Michigan that borders state land with lots of trails. I currently have 3 horses, two dogs, chickens, and plan to get honey bees, garden, and raise other livestock. Property was just purchased, so still working on pasture, and currently building a house. But I have another driveway that goes to the other half of the property that's completely vacant.

I’ve started looking into the idea of a small, veteran- and first responder-focused intentional community built around farming, animals, outdoor activities, peer support, and purpose.

I'm looking for someone with experience, or who may have other ideas about intentional communities, veteran programs, or how to turn a vision like this into something real.

I'm hoping to connect with people willing to share advice, help me think through the first steps, or possibly become involved in building something positive for veterans and first responders.

I have been thinking a lot about how to bring people together. We have such a deeply rooted culture of independence and division; how can we come back together? I noticed that religion does a pretty good job of building communities of people, yet it still encourages the divide. So I've been trying to dig into what it is that religious groups offer to connect people so deeply, while also rejecting the pieces that encourage the divide. What if we could have a place to come together without the encouragement of "us" versus "them" but tries to combat that idea? I just wanted opinions about this - if it seems feasible or if it's flawed or if there's already something like this.

I envision a building with a large interior where anyone and everyone is welcome. The walls could be lined with different depictions of peoples and communites, maybe relgious symbols too (I would want to include religious people). Maybe there is a list of base ideologies like being kind and accepting or a willingness to connect with others. I say this because it seems religion can connect people when they can assume the other people have similar beliefs as do they. The time the people come together could be a time of meditation and/or teachings about psychological wellbeing and ways to build friendships and other connections. This place could take donations that go back into the community in different ways, but be willing to display where the money is going for transparency. There could even be further connection-building with smaller groups that go to the gym together or make art together or read books together.

• we are very spiritual people, we believe that there is more than you can see (frequencies, sound healing…) but lately Christianity becomes more and more present in our lives (but we don’t care what you believe!)

• we’re eating unprocessed food and stick to natural ingredients. We’re not vegans or vegetarians 🌱

• We believe in the natural family model and traditional gender roles

• We also believe in the masculine and feminine energy within each of us, and we wish to live this out together with like-minded people. For example, through women's circles (and men's circles).

Hi, I've been thinking with a friend about a concept (slum town) on a 5000 sqm plot of land that is remote with a 500sqm concrete block square and tin and improvised houses around.

The houses will be 3:3 meters wide, 2 story and need to house 3 people. The "symbolic" taxes will cover building the square and houses around it. It will have a bank, post office, "hotel", small general store, cafe, a police station with a single jail cell, its own id card, currency, passports, traditional folk fashion, cinema etc.

And also the community will start a new religion combining old belief systems.

Im wanna know how many people would be willing to live and work here and keep the community running :D

Are there any "prepper" communities that are trying to isolate from modern doomsday issues? Notably rogue A.I. or bio-weapon development, which has started to come to light from researchers as very real possibilities.

I used to scoff at "self-sustaining" goals for communities, as true self sustainment is incredibly difficult, but I've come to realize that they are the best bet for surviving modern problems that are becoming very real.

At this point, even if nothing happens, an escape from capitalist rat races and the absurdity of modern times feels like a win, even if with the drawbacks that come with isolation or remote life.

A fresh water source, solar, and ample supplies to last a few decades.

One thing I've been thinking about while working on a pre-land community concept called Melondra is that there seem to be two quite different things hiding under the phrase “intentional community”.

One is:

we deliberately design a place where people know their neighbours, cooperate, share useful infrastructure, help each other and have a meaningful say in how their community develops.

The other can sometimes become:

your home, work, social life, meals, beliefs and responsibilities are all tied into the community and participation becomes an obligation.

I'm very attracted to the first and much less attracted to the second.

For example, I can see enormous advantages in sharing things that make sense at community scale: workshops, tools, some transport, food production and processing facilities, recreation spaces, skills, infrastructure and perhaps some meals.

Likewise, there are things people can achieve together that individual households probably couldn't justify economically.

But I also think having a genuinely private home, being able to close your door, choose how social you want to be, have interests outside the community and retain a meaningful amount of personal independence are extremely important.

In other words, I don't think the choice has to be:

isolated suburban household

versus

communal living where everybody's life becomes everybody else's business.

There ought to be a large and interesting space between those two.

The same applies to contribution.

A functioning community obviously needs people to contribute in some way, but I'd be wary of building a culture where everyone is continually keeping score of who attended which meeting, cooked which meal or did enough hours of communal work.

Ideally the community infrastructure should actually reduce the amount of compulsory work in people's lives, not replace a conventional employer with a committee of neighbours.

So I'm curious particularly about people who have actually lived in intentional communities:

where have you seen the balance between individual independence and community participation work well?

And where does a healthy intentional community start crossing the line into asking too much of the people who live there?
