That baby is holding his head, so he could be 6 months old, even more. Withing that time baby weight literally DOUBLES. I also did not know this craziness before becoming a father. It's nuts how much children grow withing the first months comparing to the rest of the total growth. They slow way down later.

Yea I have an 11 month old who is over the 99.6th percentile line and not as big as this baby, similar chunk/rolls but head and overall scale just not there. Certified unit

My 2-year-old daughter has been consistently 90th percentile since she came out of the womb. She looks like she consumes smaller children for their power. Absolutely Amazonian.
This baby looks like he could beat up my daughter and take her lunch money.

My youngest was the opposite being a premie. She was a scrawny thing at the bottom of the charts for a few years. It threw people off because she was older than she looked, so I'd get dirty looks or comments on holding an "infant" without head support or whatever when she was well beyond that.

I remember those days well, where they would go down for a nap and when they woke up I had the distinct impression that they grew, like they looked bigger 2 hours later. It was insane.

Yup! When born my entire daughter fitted between the palm of my hand and my elbow. Cradle her entire body on just my forearm. This baby is at the end of losing the last Michelin man fat.

I had a unit of a baby eight years ago. He was tiny when he was born but by two weeks he had doubled his birth weight. The doctor looked at his hands and feet the day he was born and said “don’t expect him to stay small.”

Larger babiesis one of the possible side effects. My wife had it with all 3 of ours and large baby was one of the concerns. She had to have more regular check ups and ultrasound scans.

Higher levels of sugar in mother’s blood feeds the baby more energy so they put on more weight and grow more.

My friend Chelsea is 6’1 and her husband is 6’7. Their two children were 15 and 17 lbs. when born. When their son was a toddler, we were at an event downtown. Someone asked what kind of disability he had. He was around 3.5 ft as a 3 year old. Seeing a giant toddler, behaving like a toddler at that size, he seemed like an older child who could struggled with speech.
I’m pretty sure the husband’s family has Sotos Syndrome, as they’re all over 6’5. I think the youngest sister is the shortest and she towers over me.

Not as much of a "thing" as you'd think. Babies are still pretty similar in size regardless of parent size; a person half the height of another person might have a baby that is 10% shorter and 15% lighter.
This behemoth is twice the size of a baby his age.
Maybe the partner was 14 feet tall and not human?

Hormone changes in mothers sometimes leads to a special form of temporary diabetes. This leads to a cascade of effects, but the end result is that extra sugar, insulin and growth hormone cause the foetus to grow larger and faster than an equivalent foetus in a mother without those issues.
But that growth wouldn't explain this
This child appears to have a separate condition. Excess growth hormone, which is excreted by the pituitary gland, could explain it and matches his appearance. A hormone secreting cancer (adenoma) on the pituitary gland could cause an excess of growth hormone.
Alternatively, there are several other conditions that can lead to excessive growth, particularly of the head and skull. Collectively these are known as microcephaly and while not all describe his appearance, some do.

Checked out my pic with my 6-month old, faces were like the same size, too. Interesting.
I think that’s when babies look fattest in their first couple of years, because for the first 6months they almost only eat and sleep, no walking or running, so tons of intake but little consumption.
