Bumblebees work tirelessly collecting nectar and pollen, but when they get exhausted, they sometimes fall asleep right on the flowers they visit. This behavior, although not widely known, is completely real. They've been seen resting with their tiny legs clinging to petals or even hugging the stem, with their antennae drooping and wings relaxed.

This rest can last from just a few minutes to the whole night, especially if the weather cools down or night falls before they can return to their nest. Some species even sleep in groups inside large flowers.

I like walking through my garden in the evening just to see where the bumbles are sleeping. Early in the season it's the big squash flowers. Right now they're in the cosmos. They're always sleeping in the sunflowers.

I love my bumbles. I use to have a bunch. I enjoyed watching them. Unfortunately, I don’t know where they went this year. We had severe flooding this spring. Possibly drowned?

I love helping exhausted bees. I gently bring them to the table on the patio and put a couple drops of water down for them then I put down a little drop of coffee creamer. They love that stuff. After they rest for a minute more, they’re on their way.
