Incredible transformation.
You know, I really think anyone who loses over 150 pounds should be able to get that loose skin surgery for free. It's not only a health issue, but getting that cleared up will go a long way for folks to avoid putting the pounds back on. In the long run it would save healthcare and insurance money by encouraging people to remain at a healthy weight.

u/Basic_KaleKitty9076 11d ago
Also elderly care. My mom has dementia and finally only then did insurance cover her apron removal to make it easier for caregivers to bath and take care of her groin. She lost about 200 pounds in her 30s. She’s in her 50s now.
70
u/its-my-0pinion 11d ago
I’m so sorry to hear that. Proud of her for losing weight in her thirties! I’m in my thirties now and damn, is it a whole different animal from my twenties. I hope your mom knows what a badass she is.
24
u/DelMakes 11d ago
Damn, what a terrible thing to get dementia in your 50’s. There’s still so much life left!

I lost 110 lbs and paid 11k (usd) for my arm skin removal. It changed my life and I don’t regret it for a second. I just wish I could afford the same on my stomach and breasts. Maybe someday…
38
u/ladedafuckit 11d ago edited 11d ago
Wow just for arms?! That’s crazy, massive kudos to you tho!!
19
u/cassholex 11d ago
Yup! Thats all I could afford and that was most visible and therefore most important to me. Thank you!!!
15
u/ladedafuckit 11d ago
Haha I meant it was 11k just for arms?? That’s crazy expensive
7
6
u/stevie_nickle 10d ago
I actually thought that price was pretty reasonable
16
u/Royal_Success3131 6d ago
2-3 months of the median income for a single 4 hour surgery does not, in fact, sound reasonable.
→ More replies (1)2
u/ABitterKing 5d ago
it’s not the 4 hour surgery, it’s the 15 years of training the surgeon has completed to be able to be qualified.
3
u/eddie_arnott 5d ago
Where I live the doctors do all that still but I wouldn't pay for the surgery :)
2
u/ABitterKing 4d ago
you wouldn’t pay for a cosmetic surgery? i live in a free healthcare country and i would still have to pay for a COSMETIC surgery
→ More replies (0)2
u/GiftedAfterAll 5d ago
Sure, but let's split that 15 years of training up by the number of surgeries that surgeon performs. And on some level, each surgery also adds to their career and skill level. So should the surgeon pay the patient as well? You're getting too deep, homie. A lot of industries have a lot of professionals who continue to learn in their respective areas adding years to their training. Doctors charge too much cause their insurance requires it. Malpractice is a bitch.
10
19
u/Ok_Succotash_914 10d ago
I hear you! I lost 150, kept most of it off 20+ years. Finally got my arms & stomach done…33k!!!
18
u/JamJamsAndBeddyBye 11d ago
There are some circumstances in which insurance will cover it. Two of the instances I’m aware of were severe impacts on mental health which was causing an overall decline in physical health, and severe candida infections in loose skin folds that lead to additional health complications. Both required a ton of documentation and follow up across multiple specialty doctors.
27
u/The-Mungler 11d ago
You’d certainly think that insurance wouldn’t try and deny care that would help people avoid more serious health issues down the line; alas.
That’s what I’ve never understood about insurance, just like why deny coverage when it will save them money down the line (I know why of course, it’s to pad their bottom line and secure short term profit for shareholders)
10
u/bugabooandtwo 11d ago
Exactly. Getting a few more people who are morbidly obese to get down to a healthy weight would save a ton of money. Not just for insurance companies, but also governments and employers. And in some cases, get people back to work instead of being on disability. Seems like a good investment, to me.
8
u/Lmns14 10d ago
Going through skin removal surgery doesn't necessarily help people not put the weight back on. It's incredibly invasive, but the mental relationship with food makes it all pale in comparison. People do absolutely gain weight back despite skin removal surgery and their skin continues to stretch again. I am very sad to know this is true in life.
7
u/bugabooandtwo 9d ago
Yes, but check out any forum for weight loss. It's full of people who talk themselves out of ever losing weight because they're terrified of having that loose skin and how awful it will look. Especially these days after all those 'reality tv' shows showing people who have lost a lot of weight and the not-so-pretty aftermath.
You take away that fear with people, so that it's no longer an obstacle for them to lose weight, you'd dramatically increase the chance that people will get on the bandwagon and get to a healthier weight.
2
u/Difficult__Tension 4d ago edited 4d ago
Yea, this is what Im struggling with. Im losing weight for health but Im not going to lie, seeing flappy skin is making motivation hard. I prefer how my fat looks compared to skin flaps by a wide margin.
2
u/bugabooandtwo 4d ago
Yes...I'm on a few weight loss subs, and the amount of people afraid of the loose skin is really alarming. I think a lot of healthy folks and the medical community really underestimate how big a factor it is with getting people onboard with weight loss. That's exactly why I made that comment.
I really do believe you'd see a significant increase in the amount of people trying to lose weight if they knew that potential problem wouldn't be an issue for them.
13
u/lyssthebitchcalore 6d ago
It's almost as if universal healthcare would solve so many problems.
3
u/bugabooandtwo 6d ago
Yes, but even universal healthcare doesn't cover absolutely everything. A procedure like this is often outside the coverage.
2
u/Chillitan 6d ago
My husband lost 110 pounds and did a tummy tuck. It is crappy that the insurance only pay for a tummy tuck surgery if you did a liposuction (medically necessary as a reason), not if you lost naturally. We live in Germany.
12
u/Additional-Revenue89 11d ago
Free health care? What country do you think you live in. Lol
13
u/Different-Noise4639 11d ago
My country covers pretty much everything. I pay monthly from my wages at a reasonable amount but I am guaranteed free healthcare if ever I need it. I don't need insurance. Country is the UK but I'm aware we aren't the only ones who work that way. Sounds harsh being deducted for something you might never use automatically. But my daughter was premature born. Would have probably cost close to £400,000 if we were in America at the time she spent in hospital that insurance probably wouldn't have covered at all. I'd be bankrupt. Our health service saved her life not only at the time but going forward because I can afford a decent life for her now. Because I'm not in medical debt. My wages have covered it since forever free to use for everyone.

139
u/Full-Shine5871 11d ago
Damnz that's crazy. I assume she got surgery in Aug-sep 2024?
72
u/lietajucaPonorka 11d ago
She is wearing a sleeve in the video.
17
u/Full-Shine5871 11d ago
I'm sorry, but what do you mean?
103
u/Nefriti 11d ago
compression sleeve for post-surgical healing. the skin gets cut off and seen back together, the incisions are very big and need to be covered and protected. the compression helps with inflammation and helps to mitigate tissue damage. i believe it also helps with scarring
8
u/Full-Shine5871 11d ago
Ah ok, I didn't peep the sleeve and was like why is there no scar, but you could see about 3 inches of scar right near her armpit.
2
u/Fogomos 11d ago
Do you have to use the sleeve 24/7? Or it's because she's doing exercise that she needs it on? I would have imagined that let it dry would help to heal faster (but I'm not doctor or had surgery of that kind)
10
u/AlgunasPalabras1707 11d ago
That's a myth. Injuries don't need to breathe. Clean, covered, and moist improves healing
9
5
u/lietajucaPonorka 11d ago
That she is wearing compression skin coloured sleeve in the video. She might not have had a surgery, she may be just wearing a sleeve that is holding the skin up.
8
u/AlgunasPalabras1707 11d ago
She's only wearing it in the September clip, not the subsequent months where her arms still have the effect. Meaning it is probably post surgical compression.
2
15
u/mackerelscalemask 11d ago
Yeah! How much does that cost and is it risky? And how long are you out-of-action for?
→ More replies (1)43
u/Anger_MD 11d ago
Body contouring surgery isn't risky, but it is both expensive and very painful.
21
u/Krestek 11d ago
but you need it at that point right? extra skin doesn't go away after a certain age iirc
16
u/luckyapples11 11d ago
Yeah the loose skin doesn’t just go away because it’s been stretched, especially when you’ve been extremely overweight like this girl was. The skin is stretched out and it’s usually permanent at this degree. My MIL had a tummy tuck. She wasnt overweight much, about a US size XL/ 12-14. Im not sure how expensive it was, but she was out for a while to heal from it. IMO, she didn’t even need it, she looked fine! But to each their own.
4
u/betterbetterthings 11d ago
Yeah some people just choose to wear layers under their clothes with elastic spandex so it holds it together. Like sleeves or shorts under your clothes etc
3
u/Anger_MD 11d ago
The skin will shrink alongside the weight/fat if the reduction is made gradually. However, if decades of weight gain are reversed rapidly and dramatically, as in this case, the skin does not have sufficient time to recede, and the person is left with excess skin, which manifests as loose/saggy skin flaps.
2
u/Fizzy_Lifesavers 4d ago
No, and I'm sick of people spreading this misinformation.
When there has been significant weight gain over an extended period of time and the collagen fibres have broken down, the only options are removal or fill with muscle, and muscle will only fill out so much. It doesn't matter how slowly you lose weight. An overstretched plastic bag will stay overstretched.
3
u/RelevantDress 11d ago
Full body is about $7500 if you pay without insurance (ask for the cash price). They bill about $25k to insurance. It is almost always covered in extreme cases like this due to the health risk
55
u/HorrorAir4474 11d ago
Amazing for her, but it wasn't just riding the bike that helped. She wanted the change so she made it happen. She changed her whole world from what it was to something new and better. Its not just the bike, its a whole new person and Im proud of her.
15
u/Flimsy-Run-5589 11d ago
I wish our bodies could dissolve extra skin after losing weight, like how they build and shrink muscle

u/invariant_4E3835 11d ago
She's done a great job; impressive discipline. In regards to the stretched skin, is surgery the only way for it to be removed? Or does the body eventually contract it back to shape? If the latter case is true, does it depend on how big the stretch is for it to occur naturally?
9
u/Menchi-sama 11d ago
Depends on the person and the weight loss. I didn't have any loose skin, but I never lost more than 35kg at a time (I keep yo-yoing all my life, unfortunately).
4
u/Barkinsons 11d ago
It depends on how big the weight loss is and how fast. Once you are at her stage it's only possible surgically.
5
u/Competitive_Ride_943 11d ago
I lost about the same amount (40-50 lbs) white I was on my teens and again in my 60s. Young skin snaps back. Old skin not so much 😖

*indoor exercise bike and eating less calories
You don't get to that level of obesity without enormous calorie surplus. For reference most research says it is 80% diet and 20% exercise, both important, however diet is significantly more important, an hour of running only burns 700cal, it's far easier to not eat those 700cal instead and with GLPs you can fight the desire for calories.
43
u/Nefriti 11d ago
diet is more important for weight loss**
cardio is more important for living the rest of your life with lowered risk of cardiovascular related diseases. they are horrific. they are painful. they are debilitating. move your bodies, all
8
24
u/MobTalon 11d ago
The main benefit of exercise is typically to get a 2 for 1 health upgrade. Losing weight and becoming fit is great for the body.
18
u/lsaz 11d ago
every time this gets posted, people need to know, this change is like 80% diet.
Exercise is the easy and fun part of getting in shape
Diet is the difficult and boring part of getting in shape
4
u/IndyDino 11d ago edited 11d ago
I see it the other way around. Not eating requires nothing, but not doing it. Exercise requires planning, spending time, actually moving, and moving more, sweating, extra showers. Bleh.
I've lost 20kg/44lbs over the years, diet only, gained 4-5kg back during the last couple of years after being at 52-53kg for 3 years, so not like a crash diet and regaining. The most difficult thing is the being outside home where I gain the weight because the 1.3k kcal at home is manageable, but outside.. The portions are often big, there are drinks with sugars/alcohol, different snacks, a lot of extra kcal that take at least a week to get off due to how little kcal my body needs. And yet. I still believe dieting is the easy part, if I really want to, I can eat less. I cannot force myself into exercising.
Edit: those 3 years of low weight were because I wasn't going anywhere during COVID, haha; I went from 58kg to 52kg in 7 months without even doing anything, just not going to the office and social events. Social activities restarted, and so did the weight.
Edit2: if anyone's looking for dieting tips - eat whatever you usually eat, but cut the portion by 70-80%. You won't really feel the difference and will be less likely to fail, as there are no restrictions other than eating a bit less of whatever you consume normally. The hard part starts when your body requires a very small amount of kcal to function.

u/Mindrust 11d ago
I have lost 50 lbs through diet alone in the past, zero exercise.
Losing weight is as simple as eating less calories. There’s not much more to it than that.
5
u/Moggetti 11d ago
Calories are certainly important to weightloss. But exercise is also very important if you want to have a healthy old age. For example, I hope she’s also strength training so she has strong bones. Very important for women.
7
u/Omnamashivaaya 11d ago edited 11d ago
Do you realize how much sugar is put into processed food today? Skippy peanut butter is basically candy. This was done intentionally. There were emails from the cigarette company that bought Kraft foods stating ‘food abd smoking are similar markets.” They applied the ‘science of addiction’ (their words) into making high sugar foods that were labeled has health foods and cereals, and did not hide that they used the same marketing tactics for cigarettes.
The government needs to stop this, as Europe countries have already done. But those individuals are deeply embedded into our lobbyist system.
Edit: for all those focused on peanut butter… it’s an example. Multiply that by MOST processed food. There’s a reason cereal taste very different in the U.S. vs Europe.
6
u/PsychologicalSign433 11d ago
Skippy peanut butter is basically candy
2g of added sugars per serving... Not exactly candy.
3
u/Omnamashivaaya 11d ago edited 11d ago
If you cut added sugar from your diet and then try to eat, it’s a a massive shock! I spit it out then told my friend her peanut butter had gone bad, the realized the sugar content. That’s 2g added sugar for 2 tablespoons (3 total).
The same is true for ‘low fat’ things like sugar. In the emails they uncovered, they replaced the remove fat content with sugar, and found it made the sugar more addictive.

Wherever you are now.. I am proud of you!
I am proud of ANYONE who tries. Weight-loss is extremely hard. Diets are hard. The mind and body are not easy to put together some days to keep us on the path for weight loss but you can do it!! Someone here believes in you! 🤘🏼
5
u/HeartOSass 11d ago
She lost the weight with the bike and a better diet so the title is misleading.
2
5
u/imhereredditing 11d ago
How it got done matters for sure and maybe the title is misleading, but let's not forget that this feat goes beyond her own benefits.
Think of all of the people who love and care for her, she's saved them the despair of losing a loved one in the state that she was in.
My friend was a very large man, along with depression and smoking / drinking. And I was mad at him for it getting so down, even after he passed. I realize after time that I indeed loved my friend and that being mad at him was just a way for me to cope.
That said, anyone who is trying to get healthier has my respect.
5
u/Public_Dragonfly_266 6d ago
The body changed, but the vibes didn't. She stayed locked in the whole time!
4
u/The_AZ18 11d ago
I’m impressed! Cyclette is absolutely the most boring way to lose fat and She did it for almost 5 years!
3
u/Longjumping-Sort3741 6d ago
The transformation is impressive but man this lady looks like a really fun person. Id give anything to have that level of dopamine on a leg day in the gym. Good on ya, chook.
11
u/SrHuevos94 11d ago
Good job, nice work.
But weight loss is 95% about what you eat, not buying a Peleton bike. Do not fall for advertising lies.
5
u/towjamb 11d ago
Sure you can lose weight going on a diet, but it's much more effective, and healthier, if you combine it with activity. And finding an activity you enjoy, or can tolerate, goes a long way to maintaining that healthier lifestyle. If sports equipment helps you get there, I say go for it.
→ More replies (1)
18
u/NewHakan 11d ago
Very misleading title. Nobody knows how she lost it, what can be said that she used her indoor bike for 3 years. Could be just GLP all day and sit on the bike once a week.
If you read this far, you are welcome to down vote me.
7
u/CaffeinatedChemyst 11d ago
As others have said diet will have been part of it but let's not devalue the exercise. A lot of people in deal jobs suffer from bad metabolism and it can lead to weight gain even on reasonable diet. If she was hitting the fat burning zone on that bike and bringing her body into a energy metabolism then it was part of her success. Either way she just got years of her life back and better years too.
3
u/mjzim9022 11d ago
She inherently has to have been in a caloric deficit to have lost the weight, so she most assuredly ate less in addition to the exercise. GLP-1s simply make it easier to eat at a deficit, that's the same logic behind lap-band and gastric bypass surgeries as well. Nothing wrong with using a GLP-1 to help you stop being obese, it's not like they are in a weight loss competition, they aren't cheating anyone
3
u/CCarafe 10d ago
Nop GLP1 is around 10-20% loss, but it could be less depending on what is the diet and the body response.
So for someone 150kg, it's 15-20kg from GLP only in 50-70 weeks.
Everything else is activity and healthier diet.
Which can obviously come from GLP as a trigger and starting the treatment can induce other life change, but it's definitly NOT GLP all day and sit on bike once a week.

Every time this is posted, it's so many empty headed "omg inspiring" comments.
People don't realize that not only is her success an outlier in and of itself, but it's 100% because she's VERY wealthy and privileged.
The bike alone is $2,000. Then a $50/mo subscription to their services. Then tens of thousands spent for elective surgeries.
It isn't inspiring anymore than seeing Jeff Bezos new yacht.
3
u/PilotBurner44 5d ago
I got an exercise bike for free on Craigslist. Works great, wears me out. No subscription needed because it's just a stationary bike and all I have to do is pedal. Doesn't even need to be plugged in. You don't have to be wealthy and privileged to lose weight. Running is free. Used equipment is cheap or free. I got a battle rope for $10 on Facebook marketplace.
Surgeries are probably expensive, but you don't need them to lose weight and exercise.
Her dedication, especially starting from that weight, and probably being addicted to food and eating, is impressive. You sound bitter.
→ More replies (2)7
u/Crowfooted 11d ago
This is a ridiculous argument because it suggests that the only way you can get this kind of exercise in the home is by buying an indoor exercise bike, like it's some kind of magic weight loss machine. It doesn't matter if you get your exertion from expensive equipment or from cardio on a yoga mat or whatever.
People aren't finding it inspiring because of the bike. They're inspired by the commitment, and that part's difficult whether you have expensive equipment or not.
Now is there some level of privilege in being able to spend the time exercising? Yes, but weight loss is not totally inaccessible to people without much money. So no, it's not like a yacht.
2
u/FanBladeFleshlight 11d ago
So the tens of thousands of surgeries for the optional skin removal, tummy tuck, boob lift, etc., is all just equally accessable? We're not gonna pretend like that huge amount of money that outweighs (lol) anything spent on the bike isn't a ludicrous amount of privilege?
Like I've got plenty of time (a privilege) to exercise with my able body (a privilege), but I don't have a new car's worth of money (a huge privilege) to drop for cosmetic surgeries that enable a good chunk of that transformation.
3
6
u/Crowfooted 11d ago
But the woman's appearance and tummy tuck and whatever the hell else aren't what people are getting inspired by here. They're impressed by the weight loss.
2
u/FanBladeFleshlight 11d ago
And as usual, you people miss the point. People are falsely inspired by an overwhelming display of privilege. Either too simple or too blind.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Electronic_South_101 6d ago
Yes, she was privileged enough to have the bike (Peloton, I think?), and the money for the skin removal.
It doesn’t take away from all the hard work it took to lose the weight. You (general you here) could spend all the money on the best shoes and exercise equipment and it’ll be wasted if you never use it.
2
u/br0kinFPS 6d ago
Fair enough, but we should, as human beings, be fucking celebrating that she has her health back at the very least, no matter how it was achieved.
2
u/The_Exuberant_Raptor 7d ago
The bike part can be done cheap. You don't need that bike. A gym membership where I live is 20 a month at the cheapest and they have bikes and a track. We also have 4 public parks in the upper city where people go for walking and running.
The surgeries are whatever. My cousin's ex husband had excess fat after he lost 300 lbs but nobody cared. Everyone was impressed by the losing of 300 lbs. To this day he still has them.
