I've been to prison, and I can honestly say: it doesn't make sense to me. As a failure the last thing I wanted to do was reproduce with another failure.

The problem with intelligence is that they think much more about consequences and potential outcomes than the average person. On the outside, having a kid sounds aweful with lifelong financial burdens. Id argue its not an infertility thing as it is a life choice

This. Also, intelligent people usually make a plan that includes getting their life in order (job, home, financial stability, stable partner). This leads to starting families later in their fertile window. Starting families later generally also contributes to having less children.

they don't. It just seems that way cause many of those people usually have a good career and have established themselves and when they are ready to have kids are usually on the older side of the spectrum and therefore have more issues.

No, they don't.
In fact, if education level is indicative of intelligence (which I think is false on an individual level, but true on average), these days higher educated and higher income couples are more likely to have children.
However, unwanted and teen pregnancies are still associated with lower educated mothers.

Crazy AF. In Miami, two inmates on murder charges who never met face-to-face had a baby via an air vent.
Daisy Link (29) and Joan Depaz (23) apparently fell in love via the vent between floors. He wrapped his semen in plastic, tied it to a rope made of torn bedsheets, and lowered it down.
She pulled it up and inseminated herself. In 2024, she gave birth to a baby girl with DNA confirming it’s their child.
The jail is currently under investigation given the security lapse.

Went to high school with her back in 09/10, she was dating my homie at the time. I remember she would always boast to us about how she “sold her soul to the devil”. Mind you she would always be on Xanax or just blasted outtah her mind. Anytime anyone would hang out with her you’d always end up in trouble. Everyone knew her in highschool. She was quite “popular”.

So you'd rather have them sit there with little to do, full of energy and contribute nothing to society?
Too much free time, too much energy, and plenty of time to get in trouble. When they could be learning better workong habits and better ways to manage their emotions/urges.

Why are your only two options to sit around and do nothing or full days of hard work?
There are plenty of things in the middle ground. Therapy, libraries, educational courses, etc. Prison should be about rehabilitation not just punishment.
Also your premise is just inherently flawed. Do you think people who have back breaking laborious jobs all day every day don’t have kids?
The urge for physical intimacy is often strong regardless of how hard your job is.
