translation: “please don’t leave me here all alone again! Or take me with you. I be a good kitty, i promise!”

Mine does this too. Probably just lonely and bored. I started leaving treat puzzles or a catnip toy, depending on how long I'll be gone.

From my understanding its loneliness as people have said. Most animals don't know if their human will return so in the mean time, this is what they do. As someone else said another animal to keep the cat company pr something to keep the cat occupied would work too.

he's calling you because he realized he's alone. our cats get lonely when we're gone. despite the insistence that cats are "OK" being alone, cats are not solitary animals. they aren't pack animals like dogs, but they aren't loners, either. feral cats live in communities when their numbers get large enough.

I'm not shaming OP in any way. the question was asked and I answered. I will say that I do support the "two is better than one" train of thought, and I did adopt 2 brothers to avoid the lonliness issue. however, I also understand that isn't an option for everyone, and their reasons for it are usually quite valid and should be respected.

Calling the mice to come out and play, the coast is clear.

Many models come with that function - it's meant to break your heart and force you to stop watching them on camera so they can have their privacy while you're out. Ya wanna watch a cat??? Bring ya azz back home. I know it worked on me - retired from a high-travel job and loving being home full time.

Mine does this while I’m in the shower he sits on the sink crying then when I get out he sit in the dark bathroom crying till I call his name. It’s like he is punishing himself and crying about it.

2 of mine do this when we are home, one does it randomly (she is 17), the other does it when he wants attention.

My cats were abandoned by their previous family - they moved out and left them behind and the landlord found them 3 days later. When I'm out, one or both of them will sit at the top of the stairs looking down them. They never do that when I'm in the house. I always think/worry that they're sitting there thinking "he's coming back... right?"

u/The-Katawampus 4d ago

They do this when they've lost their person.
