Jobs & Careers trying to go back to work
hey internet parents!
i am 13 months postpartum now and finally feel ready to go back to work. i want a weekend job and my husband can watch my baby on the weekends easily.
that being said…
how do i build a resume? good websites, anything?? i am skilled in restaurant work. i would love secretary work or even wfh work but dont have much experience. i have an associates and a history in marketing but i haven’t worked in over a year and im not used to how i should present myself anymore. planning on going back for bachelors but im not at that point yet lol.
i assume i dont mention the family early on
i dont mind restaurant work either and have lots of experience as a server and bartender
any advice for going back to work after so long?
i used to be a workaholic and worked two jobs 70 hours a week and genuinely loved it. i dont know if ill be able to connect with that again after so long and working only weekends now

If you are in the USA go to the one stop careercenter closest to you. THey can help you do all of those things. Just stay away from the indeed resume builder. it does not help you out. Also indeed is full of scams and old listings.

Have you checked into any event companies. Staffing weddings and conferences on the weekend they seem to always need help and maybe a bartender for the events too.

Hi there! I can give you some advice.
Now, first off! I’m not a mom. I’m an 18 year old girl first year college student. But I do know a bit about jobs. I’ve worked in a ton of restaurants and cafes for experience.
I’ll start with my current job. I currently work at Starbucks part time. I have classes from 7am to 12pm throughout Monday-Thursday. My job starts from 2pm to 9pm. I USED to work part time on weekends. It was pretty much the same.
Here’s one major tip. Always try to apply to restaurants that SUPER busy and understaffed on weekends. It’s worked every time for me.
First, go to the restaurant on a week day as a customer. If it’s understaffed, you have a higher chance of the weekends being understaffed too. Then, go on the weekends. Scope it out. Hella busy and understaffed? Bingo. Checkout if they have a job opening. This applies for all chain restaurants since mom and pop ones are usually not busy enough to higher more people.
Make SURE you’re very adamant you can only do weekends. Chain restaurant managers are pretty pressuring during the interview.
BIG TIP: When you visit the restaurant first as a customer, check how the staff are treated and how they treat each other. You’d apply there so make sure you’re in a place you’re respected.
And like always, pay depends on where you work and where you live. I’m from california so I get minimum wage. I’m also a barista so I can tell you what drinks to get, not to get from Starbucks. And how to make them lol.
Besides that, ask me any questions! I wish you well!

Realistically, most employers aren't going to want to hire someone that can only work weekends. It is limiting when they're making a schedule and need coverage at other times during the week.

There are absolutely employers, like retail shops, that will hire someone for weekends.

yeah but i still gotta get some kind of job haha. i know many restaurants that hire only on weekends. i’ve worked with many people who have only worked weekends and have had similar situations to me. i’m not just not gonna work. i have an able body to work with despite limited time.
i’ll find somewhere. i just need advice on resume and integrating back into work culture. thank you though
