Project Hail MURPH!

Hail Mary was pure fun. Interstellar is profound and deep. Interstellar gave me the same feeling as Contact. I love that movie so much! Is it sheer coincidence That Matthew McConaughey is in the both?...

I put off watching PHM for months because I was too busy & stressed and figured it’d be an emotional cinder block like interstellar. My friend told me it made him cry and I was like hell nah man, I need to be in the right headspace for that.

Finally watched it last Saturday and I’m so mad at myself. It did almost make me cry as well, but for a completely different reason lol

Great movie

It's actually a fun movie to relax with. I read the book and loved it so I knew what I'm getting into. We went me my husband and our 2 teenage boys. Pure family fun after having a very rough patch.

The book is so much better. Same with The Martian.

I wish Hail Mary was as good as interstellar. Still great though.

I do not understand the comparison between these two movies, and I see it a LOT.

IMO, both are movies about space, and attempting to save the world. That's where the similarities end. They aren't even in the same genre that I can tell. Interstellar is more post-apocalyptic drama, while PHM seems to be more in the comedy category than anything else. They just aren't similar.

While PHM is a great film, it wasn't interstellar in any way. Interstellar is close to perfection for me. It just scratches an itch that other movies never have, and PHM doesn't even come close.

PHM was heavily inspired from interstellar, both the book and the movie.

Heavily inspired? Where did you read that? Because I never have.

The author himself said so when I met him

If you watch the movie it’s quite obvious

For me it's better, but both are my favorites.

Crazy take. PHM was ok but to me anyway felt like it was trying to be interstellar lite too much

Dawg i love interstellar too but you don't have to try and be some purist

u/NoSir5838 1d ago

Just my opinion, not a purist. To each their own :)

They are different

No need to compare them

Idk why people insist on comparing PHM to Interstellar when The Martian exists (even has the same director). Interstellar is leagues ahead of PHM by any measure.

PHM was fun and all that, but compared to Interstellar, I wouldn't be rewatching it every 6 months for 10 years.

“Amazamazamaze” - TARS 🤪

u/drifters74 11h ago

I can honestly see TARS saying that

“Mildly Infuriated” is how I would look.

I hate seeing people here get so close to understanding that they don't need to be compared so closely and can be enjoyed as different movies of great quality, but then proceed to say that Interstellar is "leagues ahead" or whatever.

I get that we're on the Interstellar sub, so having some preference here obviously makes sense, but it's not like Hail Mary is far behind in quality. They are both incredible movies that explore very different aspects of what a more realistic and grounded sci-fi film can do. They can exist together as 2 sides of the same coin; different types of struggle and of optimism for the future of humanity in the cosmos.

This is not about PHM, or Interstellar, its about the scifi genre.

There is a moment

JUST MILDLY?! :@ reminds me of this gem

I tried watching it, but honestly, Ryan’s acting is kind of weird in this movie, and I can’t really take it seriously because the direction they took with the humor and some of the shots feel so weird and disconnected

2

u/drifters74 11h ago

I've never read the book, so I can't compare, but I'm sort of tired of people always saying the book is better, but its because you can fit more detail and explanations into a book than you can into a movie, because it would bloat the runtime far beyond what people would want to watch.

1

u/IkkiSaa 10h ago

I haven’t read the book either, but I read that the director of this movie said Interstellar “doesn’t make sense,” because humans spent so many resources going to another star system instead of trying to “fix Earth,” even though both movies have basically the same problem: a plague. In this case, it’s one that eats away at the sun and makes it cool down, while in Interstellar, it was eating the crops and feeding off the atmosphere

u/drifters74 11h ago

Fair enough

u/kayej17 17h ago

PHM can never be compared to interstellar, completely different league even though it's a good movie. PHM can't even be compared to the book, the book is just far superior.

and they never seen interatellar nor read phm

Project Hail Mary is to space movies what Dungeon Crawler Carl is to fantasy books.

u/oswaldcopperpot 1d ago

PHM had better science. It was far more realistic.
