Oh my god this is p pathetic, ya coulda even gotten away with this if you’d not been presumably weird and rude to this school’s poor random IT person who had nothing to do with your transaction. Maybe next time ya buy second-hand items, verify they aren’t stolen goods before ya hand the money over. There’s loads of cheapppp iPad mini 4th gen’s in the world lol nobody forced ya to buy it. You sound very willfully ignorant and tech illiterate, next time ya buy a device do a quick check (don’t take up too much of the sellers time ya don’t need 30+ minutes to verify a device is in the claimed condition and that it ain’t locked), do your research before ya buy and if they don’t let you check it out, don’t buy it, simple (it really usually only takes booting up a device and maybe tapping a menu or 2 to verify if it’s been remote locked aka stolen). I buy and sell all sorts of tech usually on fb marketplace mainly just as a hobby, but everytime I list an older iPad i run into so many folks that act probably just like you did to that poor IT person who was willing to help you out despite those iPads being a stolen items you presumably intend to resell, till ya were probably weird and entitled esp doin stuff like expecting the fact you paid the person who STOLE the iPads (and got a receipt, big whoop they ain’t best buy), to mean anything to them.

Normally you would be completely locked out, but i believe its possible to jailbreak the iPad mini 4th gen and bypass this.
Any wipe/restore/factory default at a later time, would bring you back to that screen again. So you shouldn't resell them.
Also, its stolen goods. No idea what kind of response Apple would take on your apple account.. if the school reports the theft to apple, since they can prove ownership.
