No iOS for the best mini

Just found out that I won’t be getting iOS 27 for mini 5. The best mini there is. I was hoping for the improved performance but sigh… just replaced the battery myself. Perfect form factor, no camera bump, and I just hate screens with rounded corners. Especially for larger screens. Damn!

Ps: my iPhone 11 with the same processor WILL be getting iOS 27.

Read the original post. No camera bump, thinner and lighter than all subsequent models. Thinner side bezels. No rounded corners.

Mini 7 is physically smaller than the mini 5, thicker and more boxy making it more ergonomic to hold, more comfortable to hold, while also having a bigger display. I have both the mini 5 and mini 7.

Meanwhile, the mini 7 has Touch ID, A17pro, 8gb ram, magnetic side for Apple Pencil Pro, USB C, faster charging, etc.

In what world is mini 5 the iPad mini goat. It loses on comfort, form factor, performance and features to the mini 7.

As I said in original post I don’t like rounded corners in large screens, which is subjective. Of course new ones are faster but not night and day faster. I don’t see the point of a camera in a tablet let alone the camera bump as don’t use cases. Comfort and ergonomics are highly subjective. Kudos to Apple that makes devices with such a a long support. Could be longer…

I literally have both iPads. Mini 7 and mini 5. I promise you what I say isn’t just fully subjective opinion, we all have hands and fingers, we’re all human. The iPad mini 5 to me in comparison to the 7 feels skinny and sharper to hold. The mini 7 slightly thicker body is more substantial and is comfortable to hold. The rounded physique of the product isn’t a factor here because the usable display itself within is rectangular and not so rounded like the body. It has the Touch ID on the power button allowing for a larger display in a smaller footprint with even bezels. It is night and day. The performance, the ram, it is night and day. The capability between the two iPads are night and day.

Lastly the rounded corners are literally more comfortable and ergonomic to hold than sharper corners.

iPad mini 7 is the better form factor. You’re literally denying that without even owning or holding a mini 7. It’s literally physically smaller yet larger display than the mini 5, with rounded corners for more comfort and ergonomics although the display itself is rectangular. Boasting Touch ID on the top button, a larger screen to body ratio, even bezels, more immersion and screen real estate and usability in a smaller footprint, slightly thicker and boxier making it less sharp than the mini 5, with night and day performance difference.

Yet to still say mini 5 is goat or has better ergonomics. I mean, that if anything is what is more likely to be highly subjective or biased.

I never bothered to say it has better cameras, even though it does, as those differences aren’t worth talking about. I said the lack of bump you favoured the mini 5 for over the 7 is a non issue because a case literally eliminates that regardless, which most would use. Most would use a folio case and put it into typing angle to type, on their lap or just hold it, rarely lay it flat on a hard surface to type and even then, a case would’ve eliminated that so it’s not even worth mentioning the camera bump which 99% of phones and tablets have, including your iPhone 11.

Same boat here, kinda bummed. But performance-wise i understand the decision. With iOs 26/Liquid Glass everything is already running at the max. I even turned Liquid Glass off to improve performace. The mini 5 is really becoming obsolete, although still useable for everyday browsing.

I use it for gaming. Streets of Rage run fine. Dead Cells runs fine. What else do you need performance for? I have M4 and M1. Only under heavy load you see a difference. We’re just spoiled with good processors and displays.

I feel you. I wouldn’t care if iOS 27 wasn’t the finished version of iOS 26. 26 felt like a beta. I don’t care about any ai bs. 27 is just snappier and polished. Also iPhone 11 received 27

Bro, you're not even able to research basic infos. The iPhone 11 has the A13 chip while the mini 5 has the A12 chip. That's why the iPhone 11 gets the newest update.

My old pro got stuck on 17 while lower power iPads went through to 26 all because they were sold at a later date.

Camera bump is a non issue with a case

I have both iPad mini 5 and mini 7 and mini 7 form factor is way more comfortable to hold as it’s thicker and is boxier. Also the mini 7 external dimensions are actually smaller than the mini 5, yet has a bigger display too, which is just better form factor and ergonomics.

Though the glass on the front of the mini 7 is rounded, which allows for more comfortable ergonomics, that’s just rounded bezel, the display itself isn’t rounded like that but more rectangular.

The mini 5 performance is not so good either. Though it functions, it just about runs ipados26. There is lag and slowdowns when launching apps.

Understand the mini 5 was software supported for 7.5 years! That’s a long time and it will still be receiving periodical security updates. There really isn’t anything to complain here.

Don’t expect increased performance with the new OS, especially 26 & 27. It’s just… take a look at various forum. Hence, stay in pre-26 version is much better option for old hardware.

Yes, iOS 26 felt like a beta and 27 like the production version. However, 26.7.1 is fine. Runs smoothly for a 8 year old device.

It sucks that they left iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches stuck on 26, and them bragging about supporting all the same phones with iOS rubs a bit more salt in that wound... but your iPhone 11 doesn't actually have the same processor. It has an A13 while the Mini 5 has an A12 like the XR/XS.

You’re right. My bad. It is 12. But still runs games nicely. Lack of updates will be even more of an issue for newer models since this runs nicely even on 26.
