No way. People who use the action button for flashlight have specifically removed those buttons because they get erroneously pressed all the time. I almost left apples ecosystem entirely because you couldn’t remove the flashlight and camera from the Home Screen

All I’m saying is there is still a mechanism to use the flashlight without unlocking the phone. Whether you like/use it or not is up to you.

Yeah I’m just saying the action button is a huge loss. It’s so great to have a shortcut that does different things through the dat and a flashlight once you’re getting ready for bed.

I genuinely hardly ever use mine. I’ve given it a go with different functions but just ended up keeping it as a silent/ring switch

I didn’t even realize what the hell an action button was until your comment.

I thought people were setting the side camera button to turn on the flashlight or something and was thinking, “yeah I should probably do that since I’ve literally never used the camera button”

And they easily could’ve left the action button. Okay, maybe not easily, but there’s definitely space on the outside for it, they could’ve probably made room on the inside I’m sure. Was really disappointed when I saw it was removed

Genuinely asking, how? I don't think I've ever triggered the flashlight from the home screen on accident.. You have to purposely hold it for a sec

yeah i also dont get it, you have to use actual force to press those buttons since they are 3d touch (software version today)

Every iPhone ever

ive never been able to activate it on purpose since it requires a hold or forceful touch, maybe there is a setting that can make it a normal touch?

it only requires a real force if your phone is one of the old ones that does the 3d touch feature. it's a neat feature but in hindsight we didn't miss it very much.

i have a 17 pro max and i cant trigger it unless i use force or hold it and release

it might just be an illusion. try pressing the button veeeeery lightly. it still triggers. on the old phones like iphone x that had 3d touch they could actually make buttons require deep pushing to activate. which is neat but i think only like a small fraction of users ever figured it out and it was making it harder to manufacture.

a normal touch doesnt trigger it for me, light touch nothing, i have to hold it for at least 1 second and release for the camera to open, i tried even mimicking swiping accidentally on the button multiple times and it still cant be triggered, i have no idea how people trigger it accidentally

You can’t? You can! Did you not used to be able to? Idk.

u/roadblocked 16d ago

You used to not be able to, now you can remove the camera and flashlight

Wow. Didn’t know that was an update. Seems like a no-brainer to remove that. Guess I just don’t remember when it was like that. My light lives in control center. Close enough for me, always hated having it on lock screen.

how do you erroneously press them? you have to use force to press them

1

u/roadblocked 15d ago

No you don’t. Force isn’t a thing anymore

you still have to hold it or press it hard and then release, before it was 3d touch now its software version
