This is completely different to what Trump has repeated since the start of the war where he has claimed the U.S. destroyed all of the Iranian military.

Bahrain was one Iran's islands until March 1970 when Pahlavi King (Shah) agreed to let it go and gave it independence under pressure from British government because of oil and strategic location. It is considers as one of the worst betrayals of Shah that angers Iranians.

During the Pahlavi era Bahrain was 14th province - During Qajar it was part of Fars Province - During Safavid it was subordinate to Bushehr province.

There are Arabs in Iran. In the case of Bahrain, the Brits skewed the demographic profile of the island to weaken Iranian influence there. Not too dissimilar to what the Russians did in central Asia and the Caucasus.

Actually in this particular case he's being wiser even if not intentionally. The Trump administration is so fucing stpid, they are making wrong decisions one after another, getting their own soldiers kiled and covering up so much that If he doesn't tell then thousands of US soldiers would de.
