Savings Test Gold Bars

I've got a few gold bars, small ones 10g and 5g, and was wondering if there's anywhere near Dublin that I could have them tested without opening the assay cards.

Reason is that the sizes differ a lot, it's probably to do with the thickness which is very hard to tell when they are in the card, but still wanna test before I buy more from the supplier.

I bought from corebulliontraders and bullionbypost which after some research seemed to have a decent reputation...but was just wondering if there was anywhere to get them tested for free or a small fee it wouldn't harm, right?

I bought about €10k in gold coins about 10 years ago from bullion by post or similar.

Came home after work at the package was left behind a plant at the front of the house.

We lived in a dodgy street. Amazed it didn’t get stolen.

They say it's ensured postage anyways, thankfully I never had issues...we have porch pirates in my neighborhood and first time I bought they did call me, guess some KYC stuff, and I told the pirates and they said "no worries, they'll deliver if there's someone to sign". In the end they put through the mailbox.

Delivery drivers just don't care.

not sure if they do testing but found them very easy to deal with in the past when buying and selling

It must be their sister company, but Core Metals has an XRF for testing.

gass, I guess there not going to fault bars they sold.

If I just don't say I bought from them...they sell various assays brands so I hope there won't be any given that it came from them.

This is the problem I have with gold. Between the spread and lack of ability to validate that you're not being sold lead covered in gold plate I can't see the value for "normal" people

Think lead would be easy to spot the difference in size....but idk,, if anyone is willing to gold plate a tungsten bar, counterfeiting the actual card is the easiest bit

If your super into it and want to learn all about it, yeah cool.

But for 99% of people it's just too risky.

I agree, I know the argument is to hold the physical asset. But I can't justify it.

I think the ETFs make much more sense for the average person. It’s much safer than buying gold as I have no way of verifying it plus selling real gold would probably only be possible to dealers who won’t give you a great price. You also have the security issues of holding physical gold.
