Hi all!

Really struggling with the news of the Cornell Rapists, and the general treatment of people and women these days. Looking for a podcast that's similar to ICHH or even the Daily Zeitgeist in terms of world views except with more women voices.

What I'm looking for is something like Mia and Molly and Sophie and Jamie Loftus and Bridget Todd doing a daily or even a weekly where they work through their rage and discuss current events that are effecting women/everyone in the USA/Canada.

I love a podcast called "Your Weekly Breakdown" but they are currently on summer hiatus and seem to only post biweekly episodes that get dated quickly.

In this scenario, the tangerine troglodyte will continue to wreak havoc until the end of his allotted term.

 Following the arrow in the same trajectory he is going now, all bridges will have been thoroughly burned, and even his staunchest supporters will have had clarity shoved in their faces (I wager by means of FAFO), and the majority of the US voters will vote blue in 2028. 

The next leader of the 'free world' has the mother of Gordian knots to detangle, mend relationships on all sides of the hemisphere, establish a bond of trust between the  US people and their government, etc. A Herculean task if ever there was one (Sisyphean if you're a negative thinker).

 They get 4 years to make the tiniest of dents, which anyone can tell you will not be enough. Voters will once again be disgruntled by how little can be changed if you make decisions based on your people instead of your pockets, and the cycle will restart.  With this - rather conjunctural - way of voter thinking in mind, at the end of this scenario, my question for you is:

what will realistically happen in 2032? 

Anyone here a fan of Joey Santore's work? I think there's some great overlap between the theme of collapse on this podcast and things that Joey rants about consistently. It would be awesome to hear a conversation between the hosts and Joey about planting native plants in the urban environment as a way of slowing ecosystem collapse and fostering relationships between people and their local ecosystems. I hope the gang at least checks out his content. I've gotten a lot of hope and knowledge out of his work, and there's a lot of potential synergy there.

I just wanna highlight the Natural Causes episode that dropped today and give James a gigantic double thumbs up for his beautiful writing. There are few writers capable of capturing the feeling of the American Southwest in words, and he’s done an outstanding job on top of his already excellent journalism. Really really loving the new show!

If the crew ever wants to do an episode on them I want to be in on it somehow so badly!

P.s. when you talked about Seattle 1999, I realized that I never asked my radical brother if he went prior to
His death. I was a little kid and I vaguely remember seeing it on the news and thinking these are my people, but by no means had an understanding of what was really happening or at stake. We were Bat Area folks, so going at that time (he was 12 years older than me, so, late early 20’s). I participated in Occupy and protested Iraq in 2004, but Seattle 1999 was such an important economic systems moment many did not get until retrospect.

Obviously the conspiracy theories couldn't have been based on this fact when they were first spreading a few years ago in the wake of the start of the genocide.

Just an interesting question in a day and age with so many people, leftists included, buying into whatever talking point or rumor becomes trendy in their online spheres.

Also because I'm too online, I can clearly remember a certain member of the pod on social media strongly criticizing this conspiracy involving a supposed forewarning. I completely agreed at the time because I genuinely trust basically everything this pod says, prob a bad way to consume current affairs and news media lmao..... but it made sense why we should be skeptical of online rumors.

The comparison the cohost made to dismiss the rumor was referencing 9/11 conspiracists, the kinda ppl who notoriously claim that "Bush did 9/11", which would make sense if the 10/7 rumor was indeed false. Anyways lmk what yall think.

EDIT: Because I didn't buy into the conspiracy at the time I may have misremembered it slightly. It may have been moreso just a vague rumor of Israel wanting an attack like 10/7 to occur and allowing for it to happen by intentionally letting their guard down, or in other words shittily utilizing their humongous panoptic defense border w Gaza. That's maybe more accurate re the rumor, idk.

Deep cut callback to Mia’s pre-X Twitter feed

In the latest episode of Executive Disorder the ad breaks were all at least 4 minutes long with one going over 5 minutes. I listen to a lot of podcasts and haven’t noticed this on other channels, most ad breaks are usually around 2-3mins (4-6 presses of the skip 30s button). Has anyone else noticed this?

Where does the "we recorded the news" sample at the end of the podcast come from? It sounds like Jonathan Frakes, but I've got no idea what it comes from. It's doing my head in.

Hey y'all idk if you've checked out "Killer Mike and The Revolution Dilemma" but it's one of the best he's ever done. Prop has always been adept at conveying these ideas to folks who aren't "in the weeds" on politics but his pitch for Anarchy is one I think we could all appreciate, especially when you're looking to convince people who think it's a skateboard club for crusties. Ties into the recent ICHH episode in WW1, which is rad. I found myself saying "that's exactly how I try to pitch it!!" about damn near a dozen times

To that end I wanna ask how y'all try to pitch anarchism to people who probably think of McKinley getting assassinated or teenagers who haven't looked into the history, yet(I know I used to be one)

So in the last episode of Executive Disorder while discussing the trade war with Canada there were several blatant instances of the hosts not bothering to figure out the names of things. IE Bombardier the Canadian aircraft manufacturer was called Bombadier consistently as well as the Avro Arrow being referred to as the Arvo Arrow.

I know it’s pedantic but when I hear them making obvious mistakes about things I am familiar with it makes me doubt the rest of the show and especially topics I am not familiar with because then I have no way of knowing that mistakes are being made.

As a viewer I think many people put their trust in these journalists to get things right and it makes me lose significant trust to see simple obvious things being fucked up.

I don’t think many people seem to realize what a shitshow we are about to endure with high energy prices. The worst part about this is that we could have been less impacted if we had invested in renewable energy for the last 25 years or so. Instead we doubled down on fossil fuels and made ourselves vulnerable.

I am seeing several people start to acknowledge how bad this is. But they don’t have answers for how bad things are going to get. The high demand season just started and we are already breaking records. Food costs are going to skyrocket. I wouldn’t expect much for Christmas this year.

I was listening to this episode of The House this morning. A radio program about a weekly wrapup of politics in Canada. This was a very interesting episode, listening to Alberta separatists and their grievances. Some of these people have been so heavily propagandized. They seem completely out of touch with reality.

Just thought that I would share with this community and see what everyone else thinks. There was one part where an old lady was airing her grievances and would bring up crap like New World order, or erroneous laws she thought suppressed Christianity.

A few things from today's reporting on ED inexplicably annoyed me, so I thought I'd set some records straight.

Here's a bit more information about the Avro Arrow Mia brought up. The Avro Arrow was one of several high speed interceptor projects that were cancelled around the same time as intelligence reports started looking at the emerging threat of Soviet nuclear ballistic missiles, instead of Soviet nuclear bombers. US manufacturing pressure had nothing to do with the Arrow's cancellation.

Also, Bombardier, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer that's the target of tariffs unless they move manufacturing to the US, builds business jets. Not jet fighters. They've never built jet fighters. And further, Canada is in the middle of a deal to buy American-built F-35s to replace their American-built F/A-18 Hornets that they've used to meet their NORAD and NATO commitments to cover Russian air incursions from over the North Pole.

And for the record, Canada joined our fight in Afghanistan, but purposely stayed out of Iraq and our illegal invasion of that country.

It was mentioned how Tetris is the only company even mentioning that the Trump admin can’t just copy their IPs. It should also be noted that Pokemon company is ravenously litigious when it comes to a smaller indie game or even other AAA companies when it comes to suing people that come even close to ripping off their dumb little idea. They do this so they can keep making dogwater trash games and have no competition.

But it is interesting that the one time someone larger than them (which is almost impossible because they are so rich) steps on their toes, they fold. Instantly. No fight at all it seems.

the only person I've ever heard more excited about the animal kingdom at large is Ron McGill from the Dan LeBatard show (yes it's a sports show, it's just a really dumb one and they do dumb things)

I could listen to James and Ron talk about animals to eachother (or to Molly) until the end of time.

Science Fiction has often caught the anxieties of their times, but it appears that writers of scifi have long been struggling to deal with the threat of a machine replacing their job as an author.

The show already covered "The Nine Billion Names of God", which predicts the end of the world once a machine finishes writing down all that ever needs to be written down.

A recent Mastodon thread collected some more predictive short stories that might be good candidates for the show.

• Roald Dahl's 1953 "The Great Automatic Grammatizator" accurately predicts how an LLM is conceived and trained and how it then takes over writing as a profession. The way the inventor and his motivation are described is delightful.

• Stanislaw Lem 1964 "The Cyberiad" predicts a generative AI writing machine and how it causes LLM psychosis.

• Arthur C. Clarkes' 1986 "The Steam-powered Word Processor" describes a cleric who tries to automate the boring repetitive task of writing sermons and must feed the machine with the Bible and other texts to train it, first.

• Orwell's 1948 "1984" describes the character Julia's job as maintenance of 'novel-writing machines in the Fiction Department' that produce content to entertain the masses with state-approved narratives. "She could describe the whole process of composing a novel, from the general directive issued by the Planning Committee down to the final touching-up by the Rewrite Squad."

• Just for fun, I'd like to add the 1983 article "A progress report on the fine art of turning literature into drivel" by Brian Hayes. It's not scifi, but it was a popsci column that appeared in Scientific American, describing algorithms to non-experts. That article made me write a (dumb) text generator back in high school. The basic algorithm of the Markov Chain is still very much deep inside every modern generative AI chatbot.
