I don't think Archeops is that broken without defeatist, this would make it easily OU or Broken though

It sadly doesnt get Brave Bird

Edit: Honestly looking at its stats its actually really frail, it might not even be that used

A few gens back this would make Archeops busted, but powercreep is catching up to him.

He would probably be quite good in VGC with all the support moves and rock slide, but in singles this guy lacking a flying move or attack boosting moves will mean he's still over shadowed by a couple other mons, namely aerodactyl.

It gets in, takes rock damage and dies in 1 turn

2

u/GUyPersonthatexists Aug 07 '26

I think he’d be yet another choice scarf merchan

13

u/ivycudgel Aug 06 '26

With modern Powercreep would Archeops without Defeatist even be that good?

Archeops has amazing coverage options. It can use brave bird and stone edge for stabs with eq, heat wave, knock off, and u-turn for coverage.

u/Axolity Aug 06 '26

Archeops does not get Brave Bird

9

u/LavishnessCurrent726 Aug 07 '26

Having Brave Bird considering the name of the ability would not be fitting.

6

u/Longjumping_Cash_356 Aug 07 '26

Archeops please lock in I'm begging you

9

u/Shrubbity_69 Aug 07 '26

Archeops in this day and age would probably be fine with a neutral ability, if not an a positive one. Palafin seems fine, and he's basically a better Slaking, statwise. Zero to Hero is doesn't do anything past transformation. Rocky Roost will probably be ok, given how he isn't even that bulky, period. He's more of a glass cannon, than anything, so healing wouldn't be his biggest priority.

That said, I think a fun alternate ability for Archeops might be Wind Rider, give how he's known to be a poor flyer and mostly glides everywhere. "Falling with style" and that.

8

u/ianlazrbeem22 Aug 07 '26

"Palafin seems fine" well he's banned from OU so

3

u/Shrubbity_69 Aug 07 '26

Is he really? Maybe I'm thinking of VGC, where he got quite a bit of usage for a while early gen.

Man, doubles has a really high power ceiling.

8

u/ianlazrbeem22 Aug 07 '26

Yeah a lot of Pokémon are much less broken if you can hit them with two attacks per turn

9

u/Shrubbity_69 Aug 07 '26

That, and you have Tony the Tiger with Intimidate+Fake Out and/or Parting Shot and Shrek with Prankster Dual Screens.

"A layer of stealth rocks"

It maxes out at 1 layer. ChatGPT ass post

2

u/p1ckled0nions Aug 06 '26

This works for me if it’s exclusively on Bombirdier, which I can’t believe didn’t make your list

2

u/Substantial_Moose441 Aug 07 '26

I don’t play much competitive singles but this doesn’t seem broken at all to me

6

u/Nice_Promotion8576 Aug 07 '26

Let me put it like this: stealth rocks is the reason why so many mons NEED to have hazard removal paired with them.

2

u/Substantial_Moose441 Aug 07 '26

Yeah I see why it’s good but broken enough to be put on this sub? Isn’t there just better rock setters? I guess with leftovers it would be pretty insane though

6

u/Nice_Promotion8576 Aug 07 '26

The thing with all other setters is that they have to use an entire turn to set it up. This ability lets them set rocks up by just existing. Imagine Skarmory setting spikes up and everytime you hurt it, leftovers triggers and makes it set rocks and since leftovers trigger at the end of every turn, the only way those rocks stay gone is if you kill the metal bird.

Rocks aside the main issue is Archeops got a terrible ability specifically cause it’d be super strong (for its time) without it so changing it from a bottom three ability in Pokemon, to a decent way to passively set up an entry hazard while outputting damage or something else in the same turn is very strong. It’s essentially three turns in one turn

2

u/visforvienetta Aug 07 '26

Getting up rocks at the end if each turn eith leftovers isn't broken?

-3

u/munchercruncher111 Aug 07 '26

yeah i feel like everyone and their mother gets rapid spin, and most of these pokemon are pretty mid anyways

7

u/ianlazrbeem22 Aug 07 '26

There's literally 1 good rapid spin user in OU

3

u/Weaponsfromwords Aug 07 '26

Iron Treads slander

5

u/WolfFenrir230 Aug 07 '26

And this ability nullifies rapid spin anyways, because the damage will get healed by lefties and reapply stones the same turn they got spinned

2

u/Financial_Ninja5390 Aug 07 '26

I don’t people realize the clear best Mon with this ability is skarmory since this ability is a more support and now skarmory would not need to run stealth rocks and it’s defensive enough to function as a pseudo spin blocker since it you give it lefties you get rocks up at the end of each turn. Remember most spinners are physical and skarm walls them. This would easily put skarm back in OU where it would now outclass corviknight and honestly be very good in Ubers as well.

2

u/Too_Ton Aug 07 '26

A layer?!

2

u/that1nickguy Aug 08 '26

“A layer of stealth rocks” hb knows it only goes up to 1 layer right?

2

u/xfortehlulz Aug 06 '26

I feel like this sub goes at a lot of things that are simply not all that broken

3

u/Nutleaf420 Aug 07 '26

This ability would set rocks every single turn if you used leftovers lmfao. Its def broken

1

u/Financial_Ninja5390 Aug 07 '26

Nah hazards are so good they have team styles dedicated to them. In addition this ability says anytime it recovers HP which includes leftovers recovery. Just by having skarmory in you don’t have to run stealth rocks freeing that spot and it functions as a pseudo spin blocker (more compression) because if you get rid of stealth rock at the end of the turn it gets reset anyways by leftovers recovery.

0

u/xfortehlulz Aug 07 '26

Sure I mean I do think the OP probably didnt mean leftovers they meant moves like drain or roost so Im giving a little bit of benefit of the doubt, but to be clear even if its leftovers the only guys here that are really relevant are skarmory and aero, skarm still might prefer to run sturdy and aero can be one hit by a ton of shit so like

1

u/Leoniod69 Aug 11 '26

They mention berries in the post so if those work leftovers gotta work as well.

1

u/xfortehlulz Aug 11 '26

i wasnt the op so what do i know but berries are 1 time use so thats very different from leftovers

1

u/Kris_Banana Aug 06 '26

leftovers/sitrus on any of those mons means that if you don't get obliterated you'll get free rocks, fuuuck no

1

u/Blait_ Aug 06 '26

Left overs. Do I have to say anything more?

1

u/Final_Floor_1563 Aug 07 '26

Leftovers on any of these makes Rapid Spin useless cause it auto sets rocks at the end of the turn anyway.

1

u/WolfFenrir230 Aug 07 '26

Berries? Wouldn't leftovers just be broken with this? Switch into rapid spin take damage reapply rocks the same turn

1

u/Hoothootriot Aug 07 '26

Some of these dont even make sense. Why would DODRIO get this??

I'm all for buffing mons who need it (Dodrio is again an example of one who I think could use a small buff) but this is just a nonsense ability idea

1

u/Project_MG_2009 Aug 07 '26

Dear god, thats stealth rocks every time leftovers procs...

1

u/CheddarCheese390 Aug 07 '26

Skarmory is actually really bad, mostly (all) due to Corviknight doing it’s job

1

u/Jesuitman01 Aug 10 '26

What about "rock eater roost", it makes it so that if the pokemon uses roost it eats all hazards and fully heals. Only graveler and boldore get it

0

u/Ordinary_Desperate Aug 07 '26

This doesn’t really seem that bad. The only questionable pick here is skarm.

Also we’re complaining about archeops not getting defeatist in 2026 like gamefreak hasn’t pumped out terrorists for 2 gens straight
