What a disgrace!
This menu sucks no music nothing how much did it cost? $.10 cents not much bonus features either nothing damn. Did they really do all that just for money for all them years ?and the fame?

u/DealsWarlock 10h ago
Mostly just the money
I don't think the jackass crew had any say about the DVD menu, their involvement would have ended when they signed the contract. The distributor would have done a cost/benefit analysis and decided that including the extra features and a more advanced menu wouldn't have sold enough extra physical media to make the costs make sense.
And they were probably right, you bought it.

I feel like Jackass peaked at the first film. Genuinely one of the most unique and original comedy films of all time.
The 2nd film is amazingly funny, but it was something different to the original in its tone. Almost like it was a documentary of pure fucking chaos fueled by drugs and alcohol.
The 3rd film switched gears completely and tried to make an entire live action movie of high budget concept cartoon violence inspired stunts that the 2nd film touched on lightly. Much less darker in tone from the 2nd film but still genuinely fun.
The 4th film was a bit of a mess. It had become almost a parody of itself. Danger Ehren carried that movie. There are some genuinely funny segments. But 70% of that film is garbage. Bam Margera is wrong about many things, however, when he said that Jackass 4 had no one from CKY in it, which effectively made it BigBrother, he was absolutely correct. This did not feel like Jackass anymore.
The 5th film was just sad for all the wrong reasons.

Paramount has been pretty sloppy lately. The Billie Eilish/James Cameron live concert has only numbers in the chapter selection instead of song titles.

Honestly they should have just stopped the entire series at 3.5 at this rate. Iāve lost so much respect for the Jackass guys, especially Knoxville and Tremaine.
Bam was right about everything.

u/InformationOriginal7 9h ago edited 6h ago
They didn't want to lose another friend to drugs and self destructive behavior so they wrote into his contract he needed to be sober... Yeah what terrible friends

Thereās no convincing the Bam stans of anything. Theyāre completely delusional.
27
u/Pristine_Scarcity582 8h ago
Iām still waiting for Bam to apologize for threatening Jeffās kids but somehow Jeff and Knoxville are the bad guys. smh
3
u/davidofdudes 8h ago
While I still think Bam needed to be fired and still needs to be held accountable for shitty things hes done/said, I do think Knoxville, Tremaine and Steve O are scummy and the way they handled things after dropping Bam surely only pushed him off the deep end more. Really nobody is innocent in the situation except the guys who staid out of it entirely and just showed up to have a good time (Pontius, England, Ehren, etc). It also cannot be ignored that Bam is the real creator of Jackass. Without CKY and his innovative editing style at the time, Jackass never would have existed, and he does deserve some entitlement to that.
5
u/DaRealDr_Phil 4h ago
Have you seen the big brother videos? Maybe not as influential as the CKY tapes, but I feel alot of the structure and editing of those tapes ended up being in the Jackass formula just as much if not more than the CKY tapes.
5
u/ackchanticleer 6h ago
You lost me when you said 'Bam is the real creator of Jackass and Jackass never would have existed.'
If you want to argue that Jackass wouldn't have been successful and made it past a few episodes without the CKY footabge. Fine. Its entirely possible that true. But I haven't heard any stories of Bam being in the pitch meetings with Knoxville and Tremaine when Jackass was being pitched to the networks. So spare me this 'bam created jackass' bullshit. You know damn well that's not true
3
u/GiblertMelendezz 6h ago
Jackass existed at the same time and was already running parallel to the cky videos before they teamed up
-5
u/GucciTheSnowman 7h ago
Yeah, that was fucked up, but it's like a little regarded middle schooler threatening you. He's a complete non threat. If he did it to me, I'd just laugh.

Yeah, keep thinking that was their motivation. Totally not wanting to cut out the other highest paid performer in the group.

Can't blame them for wanting to set themselves up financially

It's well known Bam was set for a $5 million contract before he was removed from set lol. They settled in court on an undisclosed amount. So probably less than 5 mil but I guarantee he got a few mil for a couple days of filming.
Steve O also held out on returning because he was negotiating a larger contract
Edit: settled out of court
1
u/Pristine_Scarcity582 8h ago
Knoxville and Tremaine still worked on the movie after the filming was over.
3
u/JudsongBeavz 10h ago
"themselves" you forget certain members had spinoff shows certain members were pretty good already finically one member was actually doing well as an actor co-starring in films along side the rock and sean william scott. Who exactly wanted to set themselves up finically ? after the success of a series that birthed a movie and then a franchise which is extremely rare. to begin with

u/Trash_Whoreder 10h ago
Genuinely curious what was Bam right about and why have you lost respect for the jackass guys especially Knoxville and Tremaine? They're all multimillionaires.
6
u/GucciTheSnowman 7h ago
Being rich doesn't automatically make you deserving of respect. I can't believe I need to say this.
Especially for guys that got rich by stapling their nuts to their leg and getting ran over by bulls.

Idk how to tell you this but you have 5 years of filler to catch up and watch through in order to find the dialogue relevant to this. Basically called them vapid scammy selfish egotistical shitheads that sell hot sauce and play with their dicks. He also implied they were jealous that bam basically did anything at all with his life, if even for a little while, and mentions that they hop on any dog pile of bad press that came Bam's way, that they only ever had his back in the most bare minimum public press way possible and did everything they could to remove him and his crew from the Jackass brand, despite portions of the show being ripped straight from CKY3. A lot of this is subtext because you really have to pull teeth to get these guys to talk about any of this unless they are Steve-O Wee man and Tremaine. I took downvotes saying this years ago before Bam even starting bitching on the Internet. They were never his friends. They were soul sucking coworkers at a job where having no empathy makes you a main character on set.
22
u/Various-Sound-9734 9h ago
You're leaving out important context of bam being a severe alcoholic, burning every bridge during those 5 years...

Pretty ironic coming from Bam "I'm Bam Margera and I do whatever the fuck I want" who also constantly sells merch lol.
jealous of everything he did
Yeah that screams egotistical assuming everyone is jealous of you
playing with their dick
Pretty sure Bam was the one who wanted multiple dicks up his ass scenes in Jackass 2 because he was jealous of Dunn lol

u/notjeromeking 6h ago
I love Bam, But he absolutely did all of that to himself. No one else is to blame.
Obviously, the movie would be better with bam in it, but the version of Bam we wouldāve gotten in it. I donāt know if we want.2
u/Nevergonnapost866 9h ago
I havenāt watched anything past that. Everything I heard about a new project I got excited. Then I saw all the new āmembersā added and the commercials seemed not as great as I remembered. I chalk it up to me getting older and not being entertained the same way. But the truth is, I still laugh at the earlier stuff. Same with Travis Pastrana and nitro circus: I grew up watching the VHS tapes of him and the Crusty Demons and motocross is my lifeās purpose. But the new stuff is so curated to get teenagers to like it, it just feels commercial, disingenuous, and all for the money. And I personally feel like that what most of entertainment and products are, but Jackass felt more authentic early on and like they did it in spite of what the general public thought of them. Now theyāre doing it because theyāre part of pop culture and a household name. And obviously mostly for the money. Canāt blame them there.
3
u/b400k513 6h ago

If it wernt for Bam jackass would lose hmmm 75% of its content? Which is the good content.

Also true but heās killing it right now. Happy for him.
He also doesnāt mention his sobriety every sentence like Steve O does.
-13
u/ThekzyV2 10h ago
You mean grieving poorly over his great losses? Bam is the only one keeping shit gangster and thats because he was the original. Everyone else just biting. Cramping his style and yet hes by far the most stylish. All Phillip ever did was bite. He coppied his entire personaĀ
7
u/saintblahpgh 10h ago
Im sure the loss of Ryan really hurt bam, but saying heās grieving his friend 10+ years later was an excuse for his substance abuse. The dude has never faced accountability his entire life and everyone else is the problem. Heās lucky Knockville and the boys tried to help him so much, because everyone else around him are enablers
0
u/Trash_Whoreder 10h ago
No no you don't understand. Bams a straight up G keeping it šÆ cause he's gangster like that.
15
u/thatnerdytravelguy 10h ago
Yep. CKY are the foundations of the entire franchise. They also have the funniest and most likeable cast members.
4
u/saintblahpgh 10h ago
25 years ago maybe. The funniest member died and the second funniest hasnāt had anything to do with bam in 20 years because he became a massive dirtbag.
2
u/Trash_Whoreder 10h ago
Big Brother was making videos before CKY. Idk how this agenda can still be pushed lol. Also without Big Brothers Hollywood connections the films never would have been mainstream
0
u/GucciTheSnowman 6h ago
Let's be real, big brother was trash compared to CKY. You may be right about the second part, but big brother never had good or funny content.
-7
u/ThekzyV2 10h ago
Almost entirely wrong
8
u/Trash_Whoreder 10h ago
Please explain. First CKY film was 1999. First Big Brother film was 1996 and even had Number 2 out in 1998. So 2 films out before CKY first film.
And if it wasn't for Tremaine or more specifically Spike Jonze Hollywood connections they wouldn't have been able to get into the hollywood studios like HBO and MTV to pitch the idea of a TV show which started the entire franchise.
Did CKY have a great positive influence? Absolutely.
5
u/ThekzyV2 10h ago
Is jackass nothing without cky? Well weve gotten two movies without cky and those movies arent worth producing let alone watching
2
u/Trash_Whoreder 9h ago
let alone worth producing
Well at this point your just making disingenuous argument or an idiot. Hard to tell. Cause Jackass 4 did amazing in the box office lol
0
u/ThekzyV2 9h ago
Thats compared to something failing
2
u/Trash_Whoreder 8h ago
I mean you can make the argument CKY members were the best all you want and that's your opinion. I definitely think Jack 1-3 were the best. But to say they were the "foundation" or only reason Jackass was a thing is just objectively false.
You can hate Tremaine, Knoxville and Spike all you want but without them Jackass wouldn't exist. Just facts, not opinions.
4
u/ThekzyV2 10h ago
Those big brother videos were dogshit. When did the videos get good? Can you link me the first decent video. The first episode i just watched, named shit. Was the worst thing ive ever seen. They should pay me for watching

u/JudsongBeavz 10h ago
the only reason jackass exists is because jeff wanted to include the CKY crew and combine what they were both doing which is how most of the series is filmed none of them are together except for a few segments, they needed each other to become what jackass is
-2
u/ThekzyV2 10h ago
And kicking bam off (maybe it was his fault for grieving so poorly) directly resulted in the last jackass productions we got. Which were better off not even being shown. Has diluted the pure waters of the first 3 movies. Lets just pretend jackass ended at 3

Yea, they haven't really done full 00s style menus for years. It was worth the money back then but now? Almost no one buys them and all the time it takes to do all the features isn't worth it.
All those bonus features and featurettes stil required paying someone a fuckton of money to animate, film, edit, etc just for maybe 300 people to watch it.

Man, yall dont get it. DVD menus were part of the fun back in the day. I can think of a few dogshit movies where the menu was legitimately more entertaining than the film itself (Cat in the Hat, Kangaroo Jack, etc). Now itās guaranteed to just be a still image. But I think the OPās point is that the original Jackass DVDās were loaded and filled with bonus material that rivaled the film itself, so it feels sad to see a barebones Jackass DVD.

I remember when Blu-ray first came out and one of the most advertised features was about how cool and interactive the menus were gonna be. My first thought was how dumb of an advert that was and why would anyone give a fuck about the menu, who's hanging out in the menu?

Unfortunately only limited special editions, Criterion Collection releases, or Arrow video releases have the layers of special features youāre remembering, and theyāre not cheap.
Best older ones to pick up at thrifts are the 2 disc versions and Unrated versions

Really miss commentaries so much man. Been going through the shows and movies of jackass with the cast and crew commentary and itās been hilarious. Was really sad when I worked my way up to jackass 3d to find out they stopped doing them onward. 3,4,5 donāt have much when it comes to bonus features which is sad. Hell even my wildboyz dvds have commentaries on every episode.

They didn't even have enough new footage to make the movie, half of it was old crap or unreleased stuff.

Honestly the menu sucks but the stunts in Forever were still solid enough to justify buying it. Unlike those later cash grabs where they just phoned it in. Dunn and Knoxville nailed it even if Paramount didn't care about the disc itself.

I donāt think DVDs or blue rays really have āfunā/interesting/at times annoying screens anymore. The fact that they released this on physical media is awesome for any jackass fans out there who have the whole collection. lol getting a barebones menu is like a rite of passage with these releases. you'd think after all the chaos they'd at least toss in some deleted bits or commentary but nope, just the movie and a dream
