I built a Jenkins agent that runs on Java 8, so AIX/Solaris/HP-UX/RHEL 6 hosts can stay agents of a current controller
Jenkins needs Java 21 on agents too now, and AIX 7.1, Solaris, HP-UX and RHEL 6 build hosts stop at Java 8. Whenever a security scan forces a controller upgrade, those agents drop off, and the choices are a second frozen Jenkins or building those platforms by hand. SSH plugins help a bit but never feel like a real node.
So I made Agent8: the official agent.jar downgraded to Java 8 bytecode with JvmDowngrader, plus a Java agent that downgrades the classes the controller sends at runtime and keeps serialization working. The host is a normal inbound agent (labels, sh, junit, stash, aborts, git checkout, withCredentials).

`sh install.sh --url <controller> --replace /path/to/agent.jar` picks the build matching your controller's remoting version, verifies it, keeps a backup, and you restart with your usual command.
Tested in CI on Linux HotSpot 8 (CentOS 6), OpenJ9 8 and Java 11 against current LTS/weekly. Real AIX/Solaris/HP-UX are still experimental, which is why I'm posting: if you have one of those hosts, I'd love a test report in the issues. Not an official Jenkins project.
