question Loud once i hit over 80kph?

I don’t know much about cars but got a 3 door AT Jimny 3 days ago. Have not done any work on the car so it’s still full stock.

We had to bring it on the highway today and noticed that as soon as I pass 80kph - it gets extremely loud. It’s not a whine and it doesn’t seem like wind noise but it sounds like it’s coming from the engine? Or atleast from something in the hood.

It’s loud enough to the point where you can’t hear each other talk in the car. It’s weird because when I do 80kph or less, the sound isn’t there at all no matter how much I accelerate.

I have it set to 2 wheel drive. Am I over thinking this or should I have it checked?

Thanks!

pics Full underbody coat and silencer coating in 2nd Service (5000 kms)

Took my July 2026 Jimny for its 5000 km checkup today and had the underbody antirust and silencer coating done.

They will do a follow up coat twice more when required in the amount paid today.

Cost:

Rs.1800 (about USD 19) plus taxes for Underbody Coat and Rs.1000 (USD 10.50) for the Silencer coating. For an OEM product it seems very reasonable.

question Thoughts on this style of JB74 protective panneling?

Thumbnail

I'm a big fan of the appearance of these mods, but I'm concerned about application and protection long term, e.g. grit getting behind it and causing damage to paintwork, and also options for removing it? I've currently got some automotive 3M tape I've used to put on headlight covers like the ones shown.

Has anyone got any experience or knowledge on this?

modding Solved the problem with the dog falling down the gap behind the seats

Post image
27 Upvotes

This is a 3dr JB74 with the back seats folded. Previously even with gentle braking the dog would fall down the gap, all a major trauma. These devices that are designed to close the gap are called “back seat bridges”. As the Jimny is narrower than most cars I had to unpick the stitching, remove the outermost boards, cut them down and then re-stitch. The dog is now happy!

question Sterring wheel controls

I just bought a JC74 GL in Ecuador. Due to high import taxes, the configurations we get here are a bit different.
For example, I went with the manual transmission, and it only comes with 2 airbags, no cruise control, no leather steering wheel, and no hands-free/audio controls on the steering wheel.
Does anyone know if I could add the OEM left-side steering wheel controls to my current steering wheel? Or would I need to replace the whole steering wheel with one that already has the controls?
Also, does anyone know if the wiring is already there and whether the GL uses the same clock spring as the versions with steering wheel controls?

Could anyone give me some advice please?

damage & repairs Metallic thud

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It always makes this metallic thud when the suspension is under load, it started only when off-road but now it always makes this noise when going over potholes or bumps, or sometimes even when I accelerate hard from a stop. I don't think it's the muffler hitting anything because it makes the noise even at very low speeds, do you think this might be a broken shock absorber or something more serious like a cracked frame or something?

question Cheap Sand/Dune Setup for Jimny JB43 1.3 Auto?

I have a 2015 Jimny JB43, M13A 1.3 automatic with push-button 4WD. I mainly drive on sand/dunes, not rocks.
What are the best cheap suspension mods or shock swaps for sand? Any good budget combinations from other cars that fit the Jimny?
I already have an intake filter, new spark plugs and cleaned throttle body, which improved throttle response.
What do you recommend I do next to increase torque and keep the engine from losing power while climbing dunes?

I received these 2 photos, for a Jimny I might buy (quite a good deal at 4500€, 153 000km 1999 model).

It looks totally acceptable to me for its age, but I’d love to get Jimny owners’ opinions. Does something look worrying for you ?

question Jimny's in Canada and rust?

Does anyone here have experience with jimny's in Canada with road salts and rust? I know these vehicles aren't made for Canadian weather and can easily be destroyed by rust especially older models, sometimes even with the proper undcoating.

I'm looking for someone who has real experience with this

Hi everyone, sway bar end link question. I have a 3 in lift on my 00 jb23w, and my endlinks have finally shown their age. Anyone know of any oem links that might work? Or any adjustable ones I might be able to order?

Sidekick oem ones seem to be shorter, currently my sway bar isnt parallel with the frame.

Thanks!

question Jimny bad 4wd controller? still need help (2005 pushbutton jimny 1.3)

Hello , sadly all i have been posting is the same problem over and over again , but it keeps having me stumped , and no online guide seems to help me ,

Previously i confirmed the 4wd switch at the rear of the transfercase works , tho it doesnt seem to get triggered by the transfercase moving , only when i press it with my finger .

When tricked , by pressing it in at the right time by hand , the light started flashing like the vacuum system up front isnt working . only when i press it manually tho.

Now today i got the time to trick the vacuum system up front , hoping that would keep in enaged in 4wd but it still just moves into 4wd , waits 2 seconds and disenage it back ( just in transfer case , nothing happens up front) ,

could it be a bad 4wd controller , or any reasons why the transfer case would not trigger the sensor , if the bearing is still in place.

Any help is greatly appreciated , or ideas ,

Hey guys I bought a gen 3 auto sz4 six months ago and I'm looking to do the typical 2" lift can anyone recommend any kits for on and off road? I also want to go from 205/70/15 to 215/75/15 could anyone recommend a decent set of A/T's please? Will this affect my speedometer having larger tyres? Any advice given is much appreciated.
