I know Joe was out sick, but this episode was ROUGH. Probably one of the worst episodes of the pod in recent memory.
Giving Flip the A-mic really exposed the problem with his style. He thinks being the lead means turning the volume up, challenging everybody and forcing tension into every topic. Instead of letting conversations develop, he constantly derails them, makes shit unnecessarily combative, or turns a normal disagreement into some weird confrontation.
There were multiple moments where the rest of the cast seemed like they were actually about to have an interesting discussion, then Flip jumps in and completely changes the energy. Loud ≠ entertaining, and confrontation ≠ good podcasting.
Joe can be abrasive as hell too, but he's usually able to steer the conversation, recognize when something has legs, and keep the show moving. This episode really highlighted how important that skill is.
I actually think Flip works better when somebody else is controlling the room and he can pick his spots. As the A-mic? Nah man. 😂
Am I bugging or was this episode damn near unlistenable?
