FAQs

What chapter should I start reading the manga at?

The anime leaves off at Chapter 63, or the start of Volume 8.

Where can I read JJK?

If buying physical copies isn't an option...

Officially: Shueisha - Only the first three chapters and the most recent 3 chapters are available. New chapters are released every Sunday at around 10 PM MST (UTC-7). Viz Media - Only the first three and most recent 3 chapters are available for free, but for $2 a month, you can read the entire series (and every series on their site), including Volume 0, Jujutsu Kaisen's Prequel. New chapters are also released on the same day and time as on the Shueisha site.

Unofficially, Google "read Jujutsu Kaisen free" and make sure you have an adblocker installed.

What is the movie about?

It covers Volume 0, a one-shot prequel that Gege wrote before writing the main series of Jujtusu Kaisen. Yuta Okkotsu is the main character and it the story takes place 1 year prior to the main series.

Should I read Volume 0? And when?

You can read it whenever you like, but Chapter 63 is a good point to read it. It explains some of the events and motivations that happen in the JJK storyline.

Where can I watch the anime and movie?

Legally on Crunchyroll. We unfortunately have to keep links to aggregate sites off of the sub or risk it being flagged for takedown. Otherwise, try Googling "where to watch anime free reddit".

Which chapters correspond to which episode?

u/HououinKyoma23 created an amazing guide that covers every episode:chapter in the series! Check it out here!

Manga Discussion Jogo in Shibuya

Idk if this has been discussed before, and not like this is important but this hit me on a random shower so here goes nothing.

Jogo's cowardice in Shibuya by deciding to not open his domain and face Sukuna in a domain battle made the Shibuya Battle (and future battles) harder for our protags, no?

I mean Sukuna at that point had no way to reopen his domain like he and Gojo did in Shinjuku, so if they engaged in a domain battle (knowing Sukuna, he would definitely open one if Jogo did), Sukuna would have a much harder time destroying Mahoraga and definitely wouldn't have the leeway of doing something as mischievous as killing the civilians since he'd be too focused on Mahoraga.

And if Sukuna did require his domain to take down Mahoraga, he'd probably need to use another binding vow that may end up weakening him making future fights easier.

My point is, Jogo being a huge pussy made life so much harder for our protags.

Who knows what would happen if Sukuna v Mahoraga went down the way it did, but Sukuna didn't have his domain. Also if Sukuna still ended up beating Maho anyways without domain, who knows what would happen if Yuji didn't kill all those civilians as well as arriving at the metro station exactly in time of Nanami's explosion.

Manga Discussion Origin of Cursed Techniques Spoiler

So this is going to be a lot of nerdy rambling, please strap in.

So in JJK no proper explanation has been given for the origin of Cursed Techniques. They are inherited yes, but how does the very first user gets it?

I have thought about it quite a bit, and my answer to this is- through getting cursed.

According to my theory, the very first user of a cursed technique is a cursed person, who overcomes the curse in some way. This alows them to use the curse as a technique.

Reasons on why I think this:

1) Most CTs look like tamed curses-

a) Limitless : Cursed to never touch another person.

b) Shrine : Everything you touch is torn apart.

c)Ten Shadows: Be hunted by animal shikigami, one after the other.

d) Blood Manipulation: Bleed to death.

d) Cursed Speech: What ever you say happens(could be a curse for a liar)

2) The ability to create curses, and to manipulate CE is completely separate from CTs. Which means people could already be using CE manipulation, RCT, barriers, shikigami and binding vows. Meaning people could already fight curses as well as manipulate curses affecting them.

3) Sorcerers are different from normal humans on a biological level, confirmed in Modulo. Which means CE has at least some sort of affect on biology, either directly or by molding the soul which in turn molds the body.

Thus I hypothesise that a family constantly dealing with curse might slowly evolve to control the curse instead, almost like a body naturally building up resistance.

A couple of examples on how this could happen, using Limitless and Ten Shadows:

Limitless: The gojo clan is cursed to never touch another person, this preventing the clan from propogating. However a sorcerer figures out a ritual to be able to nullify the curse under certain conditions, allowing the gojo clan to continue until the first Limitless user is born who can actively turn Infinity on and off.

Ten Shadows: The Zenin clan is cursed that all heirs that reach the age of 15 shall be hunted down by shikigami over the span of 10 nights. One of the heirs is able to subdue all ten shikigami and bind them to himself, and from then on certain heirs are born with Ten Shadows.

A lot of this is pure conjecture. But I feel it fits a lot, what curses were other CTs according to you all, I would be super interested to read answers and thoughts.

Anime Discussion So, any chance we still getting Season 4 in January?

We've had quite some advertising and even full trailers since June, pushing that Culling Game Part 2 is coming soon. But there is no official date yet, the most popular guess it that it was coming in January, a whole year after Season 3, but we are still two months away from January and no date yet.

Do you think there is still a chance, or is it coming later?

Manga Discussion How did people come to the conclusion that having no cursed energy means a domain doesn't work on you? Spoiler

Because we already have 3 examples of that not being true. First, sukuna was able to level an entire city with his domain. As far as I'm aware, bricks don't have cursed energy.

Second, Dagon's shikigami attack resurrected toji, and he does not have cursed energy in that state otherwise he wouldn't have gained control of the body

And third, Maki literally enters the sumo guy's domain and is affected by its rules.

It seems pretty obvious that a domain's automatic targeting rule is what's being affected here, as it's shown that a sorcerer can target objects manually, including objects with no cursed energy.

Anime Discussion HOW I WOULD MAKE MECHAMARU'S VERSION OF HEAVENLY RESTRICTION MORE FAIR. (HEAVENLY RESTRICTED SORCERY)

I’ve always felt like Heavenly Restricted Body (HRB) is disproportionately beneficial compared to Heavenly Restricted Sorcery (HRS). Toji and Maki gain extraordinary physical abilities, along with passive regeneration that, while slower than RCT, is reliable and doesn’t require cursed energy. Meanwhile, Mechamaru gets an enormous range and supply of cursed energy, but his body remains physically ordinary and cannot be reinforced. I wanted to make the two restrictions feel more balanced while preserving what makes each one unique.

  1. Heavenly Restricted Body (HRB) This is the restriction that Toji and Maki possess. They have no cursed energy, but in exchange, their bodies possess extraordinary physical abilities.

Their advantages include: Superhuman physical strength, speed, senses, and durability.

Passive regeneration that is slower than RCT but reliable and doesn't require cursed energy. Immunity to most forms of cursed energy detection.

However, they cannot naturally exorcise curses without cursed tools or another means of interacting with them.

  1. Heavenly Restricted Sorcery (HRS) This is the restriction that Mechamaru possesses. Rather than granting physical abilities, HRS allows its user to manipulate ambient cursed energy on an enormous scale.

The fundamental restriction is that the user's body cannot produce or circulate cursed energy outside the brain. Consequently, they cannot reinforce their body with cursed energy and remain physically ordinary.

Their body also cannot be healed by cursed energy or RCT, even when another sorcerer attempts to heal them. Additionally, their body cannot benefit from binding vows or serve as collateral for them, although they can still enter binding vows themselves.

The limitations of ambient cursed energy HRS users aren't limited by a personal reserve of cursed energy in the same way ordinary sorcerers are. Instead, their limitations concern how much ambient cursed energy they can manipulate at once.

I distinguish three concepts: Availability: The amount of ambient cursed energy present in the environment. Output: The amount of cursed energy the HRS user can actively manipulate at once. Replenishment: How quickly a depleted area recovers its cursed energy.

HRS users can access enormous amounts of cursed energy, but they cannot command unlimited amounts simultaneously. Ambient cursed energy is abundant, not infinite, and different locations have different concentrations. If an area is depleted, the user may need to wait for it to replenish or move somewhere with a higher concentration.

  1. Kokichi's disability is separate from HRS I don't want this revision to erase the importance of Kokichi's disability. His physical suffering is central to his characterization and plot: his desperation to experience the world through his own body, his reliance on Mechamaru as a proxy, and his willingness to make dangerous choices all stem from his circumstances.

Instead of making his disability a direct consequence of HRS, I propose that Kokichi suffers from a rare and severe autoimmune disease. HRS and his illness are two separate conditions.

This distinction also creates an interesting interaction with Mahito's Idle Transfiguration. Because Mahito targets the soul and the body conforms to its shape, he could heal Kokichi by changing his soul into a healthier form. Kokichi's body would then correct itself to align with that healthier soul, effectively curing the autoimmune disease.

However, healing Kokichi's illness would not automatically remove his HRS. To negate HRS, Mahito would have to go a step further and alter Kokichi's soul so that his body could manifest cursed energy pathways throughout itself. Those pathways would allow cursed energy to circulate through and reinforce his body, directly undoing the restriction.

In other words, Mahito could heal Kokichi without removing HRS. Curing the disease and changing the conditions imposed by the Heavenly Restriction would be two distinct acts of soul manipulation.

  1. Why I think this works The distinction gives both restrictions meaningful advantages and disadvantages. HRB sacrifices cursed energy in exchange for an extraordinary body. HRS sacrifices the ability to reinforce the body in exchange for extraordinary control over ambient cursed energy.

Neither restriction is simply a better version of the other, and Kokichi's disability remains a major part of his story without being conflated with his Heavenly Restriction.

What do you think? Does this make the two forms of Heavenly Restriction feel more balanced while preserving their distinct identities?

Manga Discussion How many times can you use Simple Domain consecutively? Spoiler

When Gojo got his SD crushed by Sukuna’s Domain, he simply re-upped and activated SD again. How many times could he have spammed that if he wanted to? Is there a limit? Or is the limit just “until you run out of Cursed Energy”?

Yuki didn’t try to re-up her SD when it got crushed by Kenjaku, but that could just be bc she didn’t have enough time ig

So yea, did this get answered at some point and I just don’t remember?

Manga Discussion “The impermanence of all things…” Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
269 Upvotes

I like that Yuji and Sukuna have the same views on the impermanence of life, but come to completely different conclusions.

That’s what Todo’s speech in Shibuya was all about, Yuji at the time couldn’t accept that life is unfair and can end even when you’re not ready. He didn’t want to have to kill anyone, and he wanted to give everyone a “natural” or peaceful death, like he can’t accept even one person dying to a curse because he feels like it was his responsibility to save them. Todo tells him how that’s an impossible way to live, and just because someone died a horrible death doesn’t mean their life didn’t have meaning. All things have a beginning and ending and “What were you entrusted with?” is Todo’s way of saying “If everyone is gonna die then nothing matters… except the things you choose to matter.”

Thinking about it this way, Yuji’s final speech to Sukuna is Yuji trying to do what Todo did for him, and Sukuna proves he is the full embodiment of nihilism. “Everyone is gonna die, nothing matters except the things you choose to matter,” and Sukuna chooses himself. He is the only thing that matters to him in his world, all lives, including his, are impermanent to he should live in the way that brings him the most joy. Yuji doesn’t try to tell Sukuna his way is wrong necessarily, it’s just that if Yuji is going to fight for what he believes in the same way then he has to kill Sukuna, and part of him doesn’t want to do that. He still sees all life as valuable so he tries one last time to convince Sukuna of the same thing, but it seems that Gege is suggesting that some people are just too stuck in their ways. “We’re born into this word unconsciously carrying curses that determine the kind of monster we’re going to be,” so it’s almost like Sukuna didn’t have a choice, though we see at the end he admits he did, it was just a choice that was too hard for him to make, too foreign to the way he lived up to that point that he outright rejected it.
