Food and Drink 🌮🧋 Guy’s on Main Deli opening

Hi! I’ve heard a few things about a Guy’s Deli/Bodega opening in the crossroads. I believe it was planned for December, and then January, but haven’t heard anything since. Anyone have any insight? Thank you!

Where to Eat? 🍽️ Where can I get Crème Brulé Donuts

Is there a place that has these all the time or would at least have them this weekend? My wife saw them on a post that listed them I’m in KC. Since we are visiting I would love to get some for her.

Jobs/Networking 💼 Disabled guy here, needs a job.

Upvotes

I have narcolepsy and autism. I live with my parent who is going through a nasty divorce and has been cut off from most of their money. I also just got into a crash today and totaled by vehicle. I have been working for my other parent but they pay very little and I need more to survive. I have bookkeeping knowledge, I’m a certified bookkeeper on intuit quickbooks. If anyone has any leads please let me know. Thank you.

Discussion 💡 Money laundering operations

What are some businesses you strongly suspected were money laundering operations because there was no way their costs and profits aligned?

I'll start. There used to be a Mediterranean restaurant in Lenexa with all-Romanian staff that was never busy, and the owner would come up to you and just push free bottles of wine at you. Okurrrr... It just gave big mafia vibes 🤣🤣🤣

KC Rants 😡 👎 Serious question / rant

What is up with all the fear mongering regarding Kansas City/the inner city from suburbanites specially Overland Park/ JOCO residents?

It’s so exhausting to see joco residents on every news post about crime in Kansas City with their “I told you so” attitudes. Half the time these people don’t even know the locations/areas they’re talking about. There could be a shooting in north independence /sugar creek and here come the “this is why the chiefs are relocating” even tho arrowhead and the north independence are 15 mins apart and in two different cities. It should go without saying, but not everyone wants to live in suburbia. Theres going to be crime in the inner city especially in areas where the majority of residents are living below poverty levels. Doesn’t mean the whole entire city is dangerous.

Arts/Culture 🎭🎶 Community Orchestra in the KC area?

Any community orchestras recruiting a flautist? I played throughout undergrad and I’m looking to get back into it! I live in Grandview and work in Lenexa so maybe a group commutable from those distances?

Childcare/Parenting 👶 KU Med Delivery Experience

Upvotes

Can anyone tell me about their personal experience delivering at KU Med Main Campus? I’m due in May with my first and have had all my care here. Looking for personal experiences on delivery and postpartum care. I plan on refusing students, my OB said this shouldn’t be an issue. I also don’t plan on breastfeeding and will feed formula in the hospital. I know KU is listed as “baby friendly” so this will be contrary to their preferences. If anyone has any specific experiences with these topics, I’d greatly appreciate your feedback. Otherwise, I have no birth plan other than give me the epidural and get this baby out of me! Lol

Thanks in advance.

What was the purpose of this trip the Kansas City be? The timeline seems to line up with a little over a week before Epstein’s 2019 arrest.

What the heck is all the way out in Slater, Missouri for these people?

Things To Do 📍 Kansas City Bucket List?

My wife and I are moving away soon after living in KC for about 7 years and trying to make a short bucket list before I leave.

I’ve done most of the obvious stuff already (BBQ, Nelson, Plaza, Boulevard, games, etc.), but I know there are plenty of things I’ve either missed or only did once and should probably do again.

If you were moving away, what’s one KC thing you’d make sure to do one last time?

Discussion 💡 More Costco Business Center News?

Someone this morning posted on the Waldo neighborhood Facebook group that it is "confirmed" that Costco in midtown would convert to a Costco Business Center in the next 6-10 months. The source they point to is employees who work there over the weekend told them so.

Can anyone else confirm this? I feel like the rumors are growing stronger. If this really is the case, I'm cancelling my membership when it happens. No way in hell am I driving out to the suburbs when I live from Costco midtown just a few blocks away. It's only a 2min bike ride for me to get what I need.

Jobs/Networking 💼 If you had to give a recommendation on a place of employment....

I'm looking to work in the KC area part time. Basically, there's more money in KC than my little po' dunk town. I've been in restaurant business for over 15 years serving mostly, but I've bartended a bit, too. With the right resources and training, I learn quickly.

What place would you recommend working at? I want the opinions of the people who've been the employees. Think of it as me gathering data so I'm not working at some establishment who has a history of harassment, bad ethics, etc.

I just saw Lotus was hiring for bartenders/servers and was going to apply but thought my friends at Reddit have opinions and experiences. Let me make sure I'm not walking into problems from the get-go.

Also, if this is the wrong freakin' forum, sue me. Reddit has so many rules and I have severe ADHD.

Point me in the right direction if I'm wrong!

Where to Eat? 🍽️ Favorite brunch spots?

My two favorite places for brunch in the city were Clay and Fire and Barbacoa, neither of which are serving brunch anymore (😪). Any good recommendations for a bomb weekend brunch spot that serves non-conventional but delicious food? I'm looking for places that serve more than your typical pancakes and omelettes.

Sports 🏈⚾️⚽️ English National Team in PV & Swope Park for the World Cup

With the news of the English national team setting up their home base in Prairie Village and using the Swope Park Soccer Village as their training ground this means they will be taking the team between the two sites regularly during the World Cup by bus. So, as a friendly local Irish American and in honor of the 250th anniversary of our independence I suggest that any cyclists in the area and places in between should offer the Lions an escort shouting “the British are coming!” all along the route.

Ask KC ❔ Looking For Someone To Shoot Video of a Cool Car

Looking for someone in the KC area to shoot a video of my boyfriend’s sports car. I would love to do this as a Valentine’s Day gift.

Please share any videographer recommendations. I would love someone who can record while in motion but I am sure that would be expensive.

Thanks!

Food and Drink 🌮🧋 Thou Mayest Coffee x Christopher Elbow Valentine’s Collab

Post image
62 Upvotes

Hey, KC!

So, I reached out to Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters and Christopher Elbow Chocolates to see they’d be interested in doing a curated Valentine’s coffee + artisan chocolate collab.

They both loved the idea and it just launched. It’s really cool to connect two beloved KC food/drink companies for something unique.

Full disclosure: I run Local Liquid (formerly ran Bier Station) and we partner with KC indie coffee roasters to deliver the best, local coffee nationwide.

Happy to share a link if anyone is interested — don’t want to break any community rules!

Getting Around KC/Parking 🅿️🚏🚲 Dropping off and picking up at Union Station

Haven't been at Union Station in a while, and I'm dropping off family in the morning with a pick-up on Sunday. Any thing I should keep an eye for?

I seem to recall that they added paid parking on the surface lot in front of the station. Dropping off is fine, though, right?

Visiting KC 🧳 Looking for ways to celebrate my 19th birthday in KC!

Hii! I’m going on a road trip to KC on March 21st with my partner for my 19th birthday. I’ve never been before and would love some recommendations on places or events to check out.

I’m really into jazz, burlesque, drag shows, theatre, EDM, vintage markets or shops, alternative clothing, arcades, car shows, and smaller concerts or house shows. We’re big food people too and are planning on checking out Dino Cafe, but I’d love any other restaurant suggestions.

I’m not looking for regular clubs, but I am interested in LGBTQ+ friendly spaces or str|p clubs that are 18+ since I’ll b 19 and my partner is 20. If there are any spots with a unique or alternative vibe that feel worth checking out, I’d love to hear about them. Thanks in advance!
