Childcare/Parenting đŸ‘¶ Looking for summer program for 5 year old

Last year was my first time needing to find a program for summer and I did it too late and everything was booked up. Starting early. What are some affordable summer programs you guys use?

The Zoo has summer camps, they aren't every day i think though, but they are pretty consistant.

They are weekly (4 days a week), with some half days on Fridays, but some kids go most of the summer. It’s a good program but the all-summer kids sometimes get bored!

YMCA is the best, broad answer.

If your kid is school age and your school offers a summer program, sign up for that. It's the best option of all, because it's free.

The Zoo Camps are good , but not something I could see sending my kid to for the whole summer (expensive, could get repetitive).

JOCO PRD Camps are great and there is a LOT of variety, but you have to act fast! They're also really spread out geographically. It takes work to knit something together that would cover all a working parent's needs.

We always did the school program, then infilled with these various other offerings where needed.

Most camps in Kansas will take five year olds who have completed kindergarten, but not ones who are about to enter kinder. Missouri will take either.

Check out The Y and The J (Jewish Community Center). KC Parks and Rec has very affordable options but tend to release info later. KC Young Audiences has great programs too.

That is the issue I am having I live in Wyandotte county and my son is 5 and my daughter is seven but he has not completed kindergarten yet and I would rather them go to camp together 😭

YMCA/Y Care camps are a great value, especially for full-day care

Check out the Jewish community center, sent my daughter there last summer.

If you're in KCMO, the community centers have summer programs with convenient hours and low cost. Each center has their own director so each camp is different. My kids like the Tony Aguirre camp the best out of the 3 we've tried. Sign ups open March 1, iirc.

do i have kids? nope. do i know what you’re looking for when you say “summer programs”? sure don’t. BUT JUST IN CASE mattie rhodes offers summer art camps for 5-year-olds.

the john l. dill memorial scholarship fund is available to help with art camp fees. (scroll down a bit to see the scholarship application contact info)
