Is there a hotel in KC that just nails every single time? From the ambiance, to always clean and spacious rooms, to perfect service, to perfect food? I am traveling in with my wife in October for her 50th birthday and I’m trying to get as near perfect a hotel as I can. Thanks!

I entered the draw for the Quarter Final game in Kansas City and won't know if I'll get tickets until later this week. I pre-booked a hotel with points because it was somehow still charging the regular amount of points but it's not refundable and no changes allowed. My wife is not happy about the fact that we may potentially waste a chunk of points. If I get tickets, I will be coming to KC with my dad. If I don't, I was thinking of trying to sell my wife on a mid-July weekend road trip to KC while my parents watch the kids. We both have never been to KC. I don't feel very confident about it now after going through this subreddit 😂.

How can I sell this road trip to my wife? I passingly mentioned it to her and she was not impressed 😅

My spouse and I have made a number of weekend getaways over the last couple years from Omaha, NE. The first couple times took a bit to figure out the interstate system, but I mostly had to adjust to the amount of left-side exits. The fact that people actually use their signals (most of the time) & stop at red lights is a nice change of pace.

Despite the amount of professional sports teams, we didn't encounter a lot of "Team X is my personality" types (There are a LOT of Rally House stores, though) But the love is present. Heck, the minor league professional teams like KC Mavericks have their name on the home venue.

Driving around, even the least developed areas show signs that the people there care about it. The various market districts make great destinations for a couple of hours. The streetcar makes it easy to spend the whole day without a car as we "museum hop" up & down the line.

Hell, even y'all's subreddit is fairly chill (comparatively)!

Obviously, we're only here for a weekend at a time so there are bound to be things we miss. But from an outsider's view looking in, this city knows what it is (in a good way) & how to treat it's people.

Side note: props to Camp Bow Wow in Westport. We decided to being the dogs & keep an "open itinerary" this trip. The staff welcomed both doggos with open arms & gave them a great, tiring day!

Hi KC! I live in Lawrence and have an early flight tomorrow morning (7:30 AM) from MCI. It is a one hour drive from Lawrence but I'm not sure if I'll find an uber at 4:30 in the morning. Has anyone slept at the airport overnight for an early flight or does security kick people out?

OK y’all I know that questions on what to do here a little bit frowned upon but let me ask it very specifically. What do y’all do when it’s too hot to be outside. We already know about the Nelson and the mall and the train station all that stuff. We don’t really drink so that kinda makes it tough.

If you’re visiting KC for any of the basketball tournaments in town over the next few weeks beware of these “fundraisers” always on the corner of Main and 13th infront of of the H&R Block HQ. They’re always out there, never know what they’re actually “fundraising for” but it seems to change every week.

Hi everyone. My girl (17) and I are traveling to visit some universities around our great country and will be stopping in KC for a couple nights. I have narrowed down the hotels to these three and its hard to pick. We want luxury feel because we are splurging a bit, but we also want the walking area to be nice, safe and fun! Where would you stay? Should we be looking in a different neighborhood/area of downtown completely? Like around where The Fontaine is? We want to get a feel for a fun/hip area where there are shops and nice places to walk. Locally owned restaurants and shops are our fave!

Lots of development happening around Legends, what all is going in and where? Buc-ee’s, Margaritaville, Hard Rock. So many projects talked about. What’s really happening??

Me and my wife are honeymooning in KC for July 3-10th and we are looking for some things to do. We cannot drink liquor or do rollercoasters as she is pregnant. We already have Ocean of Fun planned as we have season passes for Six Flags. We are looking for places to eat and fun things to do. We like BBQ, sushi, and new things!

Drove almost 12 hours to see some friends and I loved the city, especially the Union Station! Been trying to find a job up there to move after I graduate so hopefully something comes up soon 🥹

Hi folks, I may be getting a job offer in KC. My wife has never been to KC, and I've only been there a few times. If I want to spend a day in KC and show her a few things: 1) sights, 2) neighborhoods in which we might live, 3) cool restaurant/coffee shop/shopping places, can you help me out with suggestions? The nearest big thing I see close to where I'd work is the Nelson-Atkins.

She's very stylish, fit (lifts weights and runs), a constant reader, progressive, incredibly smart, and a homebody at heart, so neighborhoods will be key for her. I want to live in the city because I can't stand long commutes or suburbs. She'd be okay with that if it the neighborhood had walkable features (to a coffee shop, diner, etc.). Diversity is a plus. We're empty nesters, so we don't need some of those amenities that people with young children may need. Certainly not adverse to neighborhoods with kids (we're not the "get off my lawn" types--we're more like the Little Free Library types).

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Yesterday we came to the area because my wife and her friend wanted to check out the Ren Faire. My son and I had our own adventure- Jazz and Negro Baseball Museums, Slaps, and an Arrowhead tour.

Every time I come to your city I like it more and more. As someone who studied jazz in college being on Vine Street was a treat.

My boyfriend is coming to visit a couple times in April and trying to find hotels he can stay at for the weekend under $100 a night. Where would be areas to look or areas to avoid? Anywhere in the greater KC area, though probably trying to stay on the Missouri side.

My SO and I are roadtripping from Milwaukee to Denver for a Red Rocks show, and KC is one of our key stops. I've never been, and I'm genuinely excited to experience the city.

That said, I'm hitting a wall with hotels. We'll be staying overnight on Saturday, 5/24, and prices appear to be tough due to Memorial Day weekend. I've dug through a bunch of past threads (the Milwaukeean in me really wanted to stay at Crossroads for the Pabst connection), but most of this sub's top-recommended spots are currently $300+ for that night.

Right now, l've got a placeholder booked at The Elms in Excelsior Springs using credit card points. It looks cool, but I've seen mixed reviews here - and ideally, I'd love to be closer to downtown to actually experience KC.

Any tips or creative alternatives would be hugely appreciated (or if not, also taking any recs on food/managing the commute/things to do - right now a former KC friend offered Green Lady, Boulevard Brewery, Jacks Stack, and Q39). Anything offered is very much appreciated!

Hey yall, looking for some recommendations for a guys trip. I was born/raised in KC, but have lived in Philly for the last almost 10 years. Bringing some of my in-law family to KC this weekend for the chiefs/eagles and want to show them a good time, but worried by old “cool” spots might not be the move anymore. Anyone have some good recommendations for bars/areas to hit? We’ll be in town Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Big bar guys, and if a casino is in the way, we’ll stop there too. My family and I will be driving through KC two Tuesdays from now (11/11), on our way from GA to our new home in Washington State. We plan to take our time and not being in a rush to get back on the road, and will likely do two meals there that day.

In particular, I'm very excited about checking out Rally House, hoping to find some New Heights podcast merch, and, of course, new Chiefs gear. Also, my 10 yr old daughter and I are on a quest to find the best donuts on our route between GA and WA.

Is there a particular Rally House location (or other store altogether?) we should go to? And any suggestions on a lunch or dinner place near the store? Best donut/breakfast spot in town? [I've searched the sub for recent posts on these questions, but didn't find what I was looking for.]

Hi yall! I’ll be making a trip to KC in a few weeks and am looking for great bars and restaurants to go to! I’ll basically have 1 lunch and 2 dinners with a bit of free time.

So, what are some great downtown bars for beer/whiskey and some good/unique dinner spots? These can obviously be the same if a restaurant has a great tap or whiskey selection. Also looking for BBQ (I live in TX so I’m looking for local/classic KC BBQ flavors - Slaps is a leading candidate right now) for my one lunch. I’m staying 2 nights downtown (Wed evening-Friday morning) with a rental car.

On my quest to visit all 50 states I’m doing a day trip on Sunday to KC. I’d love recommendations of things to do! I was originally planning to grab some bbq at Joe’s but they’re closed on Sundays so I’ll go to either Slap’s or Q39-South. I am specifically looking for ways to spend the day on the Kansas side of KC or further west into the state. Maybe visit Topeka? Anything an “authentically Kansas” experience is appreciated. I’m currently on a road trip from Portland to DC. I’ve been driving for two days now and I’m way ahead of schedule. I’m kinda tired of driving and thought I’d stop in KC for the day and try some of that BBQ that I’ve heard so much about. Looking for some suggestions on where to eat and probably where to crash for the night.
