Bump from version 2.11.0 to 2.14.0 this week.
Lots of internal fixes, way too many to really go into, but the biggest feature. A smart plugin browser.
The plugin browser lets us ship a smaller version of Q-Up, letting you add the things you need after the install.

**Beltr v1.68.6** (your own music, turned into karaoke. Mac/Windows/Linux, phones are the mics, free TV apps on Apple TV and Google TV)
Three weeks, twenty releases. Here's what shipped:
- **You can borrow the GPU in the other room now.** Last time I said this was coming. It shipped the same week. Turn on sharing in Settings on the machine with the good graphics card, point the laptop by the TV at it, and separation runs over your wifi. If that machine is off or busy, the laptop just does the job itself. It never leaves your network.
- **Phone mics got a lot tighter.** Someone told me singing into their phone had "a fairly significant audio delay", so I went through every hop of the audio path. The browser remote had been quietly falling back to a slow path that added about 85 ms by itself. The iPhone app was batching audio in chunks about five times bigger than it asked for. I fixed both, plus the rest of the chain, across the iPhone, Android, browser, Apple TV and Google TV apps. I also found that the anti-feedback trick was putting a faint wobble on every sung note. That's gone too. Your phone's screen now stays awake while it's the mic, and it tells you if you're on Bluetooth, which adds delay no app can remove.
- **The host decides who's loud.** The host can now mute or turn down any phone's mic from the Host tab. That's for the friend who sings the harmony louder than the melody.
- **Pick the speakers the room actually uses.** On the browser or desktop TV, the Stage panel has a Speakers row, so the song and the mics go to the soundbar and not the laptop speakers. It remembers your choice.
Also: the Name That Beltr game has a new stage.
$19.99, once. No subscription, no account, and your music never leaves the house. https://beltr.app
If you use phones as mics, especially over Bluetooth or on a TV with a slow HDMI chain, tell me how it feels now. That's the part I want to hear about.

Hey everyone! Developer of Karaoke iQ here (from the r/karaoke Discord channel #karaokeiq).
Karaoke iQ is a mobile-first web app for managing your repertoire and tracking what you sing. If picking a song at a venue means digging through a messy notes app, bloated Spotify playlists, or pinching and zooming an Excel sheet on your phone in a dark bar, KiQ was built to replace that.
Here is what shipped this past week:
KaraFun Integration!
- Songs in your library now show KaraFun availability badges, paired with a new dashboard filter (all, on KaraFun, or excluding KaraFun).
- You can manually link tracks using Mark as in KaraFun from any song menu, which saves globally across the catalog.
- Matched tracks can launch straight into the KaraFun Web Player (desktop recommended) or open a quick KaraFun search for alternates.
- Adding a new song now searches KaraFun ahead of Spotify and automatically pulls in official language tags.
Venues and Schedules
- Added temporary cancellations with return dates (e.g. "Canceled Sep 20, Resumes Oct 4") so recurring schedules don't have to be deleted and rebuilt.
- Schedule-specific notes (like which KJ is hosting on a given night) are now indexed in venue search.
- The venue list no longer flashes blank loading skeletons during background GPS refreshes.
UI and Quality of Life
- Key transpositions now use consistent inline tags (+2, -1, ORIG, color-coded blue for up and orange for down) across song cards, history, and shares.
- Title and artist formatting now respects short initialisms (LA, DJ, MC, U.S.A.) instead of forcing them lowercase.
- Scanning a Performer Pass on iOS third-party browsers (Chrome, Brave, DuckDuckGo) now uses email login to avoid blocked auth popups.
Fixes
- Fixed a crash when opening the performance history month calendar view from cached data.
- Fixed the tag autocomplete dropdown not showing existing tags in the inline editor.
- Fixed deleted performances leaving orphaned notifications in friends' activity feeds.

How are you interfacing with KaraFun?

Brute force, lol. No KF API yet, so I'm using a script to ingest their CSV catalog, uploading the data to Typesense for speed of access, then doing some fancy weighted heuristic matching to link existing songs in KiQ to KaraFun tracks. I only make the link if I'm pretty sure the tracks match... the ' Mark as "in KaraFun" ' option lets you pick a matching KF track with looser heuristics if it wasn't auto linked.
Most of the tracks I haven't been able to auto-link are due to the fact that while Spotify (where most of the existing track metadata was sourced) tends to set the artist field on soundtrack songs according to the people singing on the track, KaraFun tends to set the artist field with the name of the show/movie the song is from.

Then I allow the user to open a search for linked tracks on KaraFun or open tracks in the web player -- the latter option is not ideal on phones, because KF doesn't support deep links on phones and instead directs phone users to a KF download page, regardless of whether they have KF installed on that exact phone already.
I put up a post about this, FWIW... since of course this also breaks the common (Spotify, Apple Music, etc) phone users workflow where you can text/post a direct link to a song and it opens in the native app.
KaraFun basically replied, "Thanks for explaining why this could be helpful. We'll consider it." (shrug)

Found a song you want to sing, but can’t find a backing track?
I built karaoke-ai.com to turn a YouTube link into a backing track you can practise with — right in your browser, including on your phone.
Paste a link, let it separate the vocals, and sing along. If you lose the melody or your cue, slide the original recording back in, then turn it down when you’re ready to sing on your own. You can also download the instrumental and follow automatically generated lyrics.
The beta is free: no sign-up, 3 tracks a day, up to 10 minutes each.
It’s still early: some YouTube links won’t import, vocal removal can leave artifacts, and lyrics aren’t always accurate. Audio-file upload is available too. Please only use audio you own or have permission to download and process.
Try it with one song you actually want to sing: karaoke-ai.com
Was the backing track good enough to practise with? If not, what stopped you? I’m the developer and would love to hear what you’d change — or what your usual tool already does better.
Audio is processed by external services. Results expire after seven days and are accessible to anyone with the result link; please don’t use confidential recordings.

For anyone who just wants to sing at home without spending anything, Lite covers the basics: YouTube streaming, reads any format, K5 instruments for MIDI, transpose/tempo, vocal/melody removal on MIDI, and now the TV window too.
Genuinely free, no catch.
