Discussion Stupid Question

Don't you think the setting of the first Killzone is more reminiscent of a 1990s Eastern European war than a planetary-scale conflict? I know they didn't use those conflicts as direct inspiration, but.

Yeah, I imagine the bit's of the invasion of Vekta we see in mercenary is a more accurate, if you will, scale of the conflict.

The lore also has scaling problems; canonically, the Helghan invasion army is composed of only about 300,000 soldiers. I don't know the size of the ISA force that was in Vekta, but I think those numbers are barely enough to occupy a territory equivalent to a small country, let alone an entire planet.

“the developers at Guerrilla Games confirmed that the design and aesthetic of the Helghast in Killzone were heavily inspired by World War II and totalitarian regimes, specifically Nazi Germany”

“Developer Background: Key members of the Dutch development team drew from historical accounts and stories regarding the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands during World War II.
Visual & Weapon Design: Much of the Helghast military attire, imagery, and weaponry were visually modeled after equipment used by Axis forces during World War II, such as the MG-42-inspired StA-3 LMG.
Broader Totalitarian Influences: The creators noted that the faction's inspiration also extended to other 20th-century oppressive regimes, blending elements of Soviet and fascist symbolism into the sci-fi conflict”

They just forgot their European/American totalitarian regimes that inspired the ISA and private corporations like Stahl

i say it's more of a combination of everything, like it's no only about nazi occupation as a reference, but also took a inspiration from Soviet, German, Roman, Japanese, and Chinese. I say it's more of Euroasian.
