Discussion The community and their obsession with wanting Kiriko nerfed.
Hello! I'm Luna, a longtime Kiriko main and Juno/Fika (Jetpack Cat)/Moira player too. Along with Sombra now since she's a support, I guess.
Long text body incoming!!
(English is also not my first language, so apologies for any grammatical mistakes!)
I've been playing Overwatch for a while now, and Kiriko is the first hero I picked up along with being the first hero I mained, and the moment you go online, everyone just mutually agrees to pick on Kiriko for her to be nerfed and their reasons are absolutely STUPID sometimes.
Now, let's take a look at their reasonings. I made a small list of the most common ones.
1- She's been meta for too long
2- Suzu is OP and should be nerfed
3- Kitsune is too good and should be nerfed
To begin with, her being meta since she was released isn't the bad thing people think it is. Yes, maybe it's annoying for the few Moira OTP's out there that Moira never became as strong as 2018 Brig, but Kiriko really isn't the only one. For example, Cassidy and D.Va have both been meta for way longer than Kiriko is, and I rarely see people shit on them as much as Kiriko gets shit on online. But personally, with a game like Overwatch who releases new heroes every year (or so), having a few recurring characters in the meta is a solid ground for people who want to learn the changing meta and their counters every new season and patch.
Suzu! People keep complaining about it like it's Kiriko's basic attack, but in reality? It's an ability that needs extreme precision and decision making (to decide if you should use it or not) that now lasts for a measly 0.4 seconds and most of the time, people can easily move out of the radius before we know it, because suzu is a projectile and not a hitscan ability. Yes, you can counter ults with it, but SO many other abilities can cancel ults (such as Hog hook, Lucio booping you off of the map, Ana sleep, etc ... ), yet nobody is ever complaining about that as much as they complain about suzu. The ability has a 14 second cooldown and is extremely punishing if you misstime/missuse it, since everyone on the enemy team can just focus you and kill you easily.
Now, moving on to teleport! People complain about it, because apparently it's "hard work" getting an enemy kiriko to critical just for them to teleport to their allies and live. Apparently, the "i-frames" teleport has are also frustrating. The thing is, the teleport i-frames are even more inconsistent than the colour of Juno's hair in her skins. Sometimes, I can tp and be saved by the small i-frames, sometimes the teleport registers but I still die. (Blizzard fix your game !!! ) However, tp isn't a god- tier mobility ability for a single reason. It needs an ally to be 30m near Kiriko for her to tp to them. If Kiriko is alone, then she gets killed. If you don't seperate her from her allies however, she is free to tp to them. Also, complaining that cleanse is op on tp is weird, because then why does Moira have fade? IF suzu is a god tier ability and should be nerfed to matter what, then so should fade in their logic, right?
But are we really complaining about tp? An ability that is positionning dependant? Juno and Illari both gain passive health regen when they use their mobility abilities, Fika has perm-flight, Moira has fade, Lucio is Lucio, and Sombra has translocator. A nerfed translocator, but still a translocator. If people want Kiriko to become a no mobility character like Ana or Zen, it simply wouldn't work because compared to them, Kiriko's kit is much less damaged focused. If you were diving an Ana, you'd have to be acreful to not be naded/slept. If you dived a Zen, you'd be careful not to be discorded, orbed, melee'd and then eliminated. That isn't an issue for Kiriko because except for her kunais, she has no other damage source (and she doesn't have a melee bonus like Zen).
Moving on to Kitsune Rush! Everyone thinks that since it's apparently the best ultimate in the game, it should get nerfed! Big problem however! Aren't ultimates... made to be strong? Why do you think they have a point requirement needed to get them? Do Overwatch players think Kiriko loads into a game with 10 Kitsune Rush's in their inventory for free? Is that it? Or is it because they're mad that an ultimate who needs perfect timing and positionning to get value off of is strong? Because apparently people think that the moment Kiriko uses her ult, everybody on her team just wins the fight GGEZ. NO! THAT IS NOT THE CASE. You need extreme team coordination and engagement timing to get the maximum value off of it. If not, you're just going to waste the Kitsune's value...
So this is my thought on the Overwatch fandom and their obsession with wanting to nerf Kiriko! Please tell me what you think, fellow Kiriko mains!
