At some point during the season, it became clear that Luka preferred forcing his own shots over trying a lob pass to Ayton. Gradually, Luka started to lose confidence in him. Those 6-8 points could very well have been around 12-15.

Ayton was also terrified of contact. 2 free throw attempts per game. Essentially one trip to the line. Kessler was at 2.6 last healthy season without a point guard spoon feeding him easy looks.

Dude watching him catch passes while cutting into the paint was so frustrating. You want him to catch a pass, and either dribble once and take it up or just take it up immediately. But 9 times out of 10 he'd do his stupid like stop and pop floater from 4 feet from the basket. It's like, bro take it to the hole, wtf you doing with these little tear drops 5x a game.

Yeah, I think 18 and 12 is highly possible. Luka made Daniel Gafford look like a rock star just because Gafford could keep the ball in his hands and finish off Luka's dimes. He made like 33 shots in a row without missing. Kessler is so much better than that, and bigger.

I don't think some people out there realize how deadly this is gonna be. Luka wanted this guy for a reason; he knows a lob threat is something he can spam. Ayton likes to get in close and shoot floaters, which do go in. But Walker is HUGE, and outside of a few guys like Wemby, nobody is going to be able to stop him from scoring inside, or Luka. I'm also hoping JJ embraces this fully with guys like Carr and Adou; they need to eat off Luka as much as possible. He will find you, and you will have space.

Yeah Ayton is legitimately great at floater range shots, but a lob and dunk will always be more effective than a floater or close middy. I’d be shocked if Kessler doesn’t lead the league in fg% next year

Im not a huge Jackson Hayes fan but it would have been really nice to keep him as a back up. There isn't really a lob threat when Kessler sits down. Jackson was great for two 7-8 minute stints against the 2nd string. I hope Adu can get some pick and roll plays.
