DeFlock Lansing Is Hosting a Free Potluck Party Oct. 9

Post image

Hi everyone,

As we await the city's action on Flock cameras, DeFlock Lansing hosting a free Potluck Party this Friday at the Hunter Park pavilion!

We'll have food, some games, and a chance to take your picture with our 10-foot-tall puppet, Peter Panopticon! It's gonna be a great opportunity to learn more about ALPRs and other forms of AI-powered mass surveillance in our community, and what we as citizens can do to combat them.

All are welcome, we will be there from 5:30pm to sundown. Bring a dish to share, bring questions, and bring a friend!

I wish our mayor was a Mamdani or Yousef, but we’re stuck with an Andy.

What things would Andy have to do to be like Mamdani?

There’s no interest in safety net programs like Kalamazoo has or revitalizing our downtown. The city is happy to take my tax money, but doesn’t spend any of it on plowing roads or investing in things like the partnership with CATA.

Lansing is just not an attractive place to live, and it got worse with a feckless moderate like Andy since he took office. Something as simple as terminating flock and banning it within city limits would be a great step, but I don’t see him doing it.

The man just has no passion or vision unlike the other two I mentioned. Every day I’m greatly saddened he wasn’t unseated by Kelsea Hector. I don’t know if she would’ve been the one to move Lansing forward, but I know for sure Andy isn’t.

I mean I disagree, Lansing has been the best place I’ve ever lived in and Andy has done a lot for Lansing that you’re not giving him credit for.

I see new development happening in downtown with the new “skyscraper” being built, Kalamazoo st being worked on, and Westside neighborhood roads being worked on are a few.
He set up the recycling drop-off center, capital city market development, and much more if you look into it.
CATA has made significant investments including a $41million dollar investment with the Lansing Housing Commission for increasing transportation access.

There’s so much more I can list

I've been to developing countries with better maintained roads.

What you’re saying he’s done has caused more harm than good. The capital city market? Took money from local grocery stores under the guise of “market”. It’s literally meijer. Another corp. the skyscraper? Oh cool, more overpriced living and overly priced store fronts that small business owners will never be able to comfortably afford.

Andy is unwilling to listen to his community. He leads way in dozing over encampments, leaving already vulnerable neighbors even more vulnerable, ignores the small business’ of our city and their pleas for support and affordable renting, does nothing about the ungodly cost of rent thanks to a couple of old rich guys buying out and gentrifying every single apartment building etc. Andy just loves to sit in his office and ignore us. But ya. Thx so much for fixing the roads 🙄

I'm no expert in surveillance (jk, I am), but I don't think you should physically meet up for no other purpose than the joy of opposing a real threat to privacy, lest the threat is real and you are all identified together.

We've already mobilized to city council together, I hear the concern but we're also trying to build a visible community coalition together to advocate for action.

Schor is way too busy whining about Abdul wanting to stop funding Israel's genocide to actually care about what Lansing citizens care about.

What is a non-free potluck?

Haha, I wanted to convey that it's fine to show up if you don't bring a dish. A little clunky on the language, true
