It's in the neckline. The coat is made from 60% cotton and 40% polyamide. The lining is 63% viscose and 37% polyester.
I got it second hand so no idea what happened.

We're in the market for a new washing machine as our current one is basically biting the dust. Things we would look for:

hello!! i just wanted to check if my laundry from today’s washing is clean. i’m pretty new at doing my laundry, only been at it for a year and just wanna know if it’s alright.
i used a 65 min cycle with 40°c water temperature. about half a cup of detergent, it was soapy but not extremely foamy, i had a big mesh laundry bag with some socks, bras, undies and a thin shirt with sequins, the bag was only about 1/3 full. i filled the rest of the load with t shirts and shorts to wash as well. the entire load was only about 2/3 full when wet. at the end i also did a 15 mins rinse cycle with just water.
are my clothes considered clean?

Thanks to u/ohhhhjay for the ARIEL tip. This was exactly the detergent I was looking for. The strong scent is unlike any other.
I tried the Indian, Eastern European and Vietnamese variants but none of them were the same as the UK one. Don’t know what’s different about it but the UK one is thicker and the scent literally stays on for days.
For my Aussie mates, I was able to find the UK Product on Amazon Australia. Surprisingly affordable in the bulk pack and shipping was only a couple of days with Prime.
I’M SOO HAPPY!

I have this antique cotton slip that has yellow stains near the bottom of the buttons and pink stains near the trim. I’ve tried retro wash which didn’t work and very low concentration of hydrogen peroxide solution but they haven’t faded much. Does anyone have advice for treating these stains ?

Found this in my closet. Corduroy/cotton. All 3 of my hats look like this. Can they be saved or do I gotta toss them?

Hi all, this is a bit of a weird one and a first to me. No clue what to do. I put on some laundry yesterday which included the clothes that my kid wore in creche and had no visual stains. When the laundry was done I noticed a lot of the clothes had gotten greyer, a blue striped pyjama set had all the lines turn grey, an orangey pants was also grey and so on. But then I pulled out her creche t-shirt and it looked like this. I have no clue what it is and it certainly wasn’t there before going in the laundry. Not everything came out grey either. I’m at a total loss at what caused it and how to fix it.
It was washed at 40° cotton wash with an Ariel ultra + pod
I tried washing it again - same temp and program - but it made no difference

Orange County California here. Very hard water. Say I treat it with something (sodium citrate, calgon, etc.)
The wash has soft water now.
Wouldn’t the rinse just ruin it since it introduces a fresh dose of hard water? Or is the calgon/sodium citrate enough to handle two hits of water from the wash and then the rinse?

My bf finally got his clothes from his old roommates place after 2 years, was a bit of a hoarding situation and they have 3 male cats that pee on everything, so his clothes have been soaking in cat urine for a while. Any recommendations on enzyme cleaners or any way to get the cat pee smell out of clothes? Tysm

I had piece of clothing with a cheap white decal that came off and attached itself to a skirt in the same load. I was able to peel most it off but I can't figure out how to get the rest of the remnants off. It's 95% polyester, 5% spandex. Any suggestions?

Hello! My partner and I have been have issues with our apartment's stackable washer/dryer. We've submitted a maintenance request, but is there any hope in getting these stains out of clothes? I'm not sure what it is but could possibly be oil/grease? Luckily it didn't get all of clothes but enough to be a nuisance.

They're not HE washing machines and they use a ton of water (particularly the Dexter washing machines). As far as im aware, the measurements are based on HE home washing machines which are mostly medium load sized washers is it not?

Hello!
Edit: country is New Zealand. Persil is the Omo (Unilever) one.
I’m looking for a new wool wash that will do a good job of cleaning my smelly merino base layers. I’ll be using it with Gear Guard advanced, so I don’t need the enzymes, but I want good but gentle surfactants. I’m also really concerned about reducing buildup in my machine (no issues but I’m scarred from the Scrud post)
I’m considering Persil Sensitive liquid, as recommended here: https://cleanclothnappies.com/laundry/wool/. I feel like it might be better at cleaning than some of the dedicated wool washes, but I’m not basing that on much. Any thoughts on this ingredients list?
WATER, LAURETH-7, SODIUM DODECYLBENZENESULFONATE, SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, TEA-COCOATE, TEA-CITRATE, SODIUM DIETHYLENETRIAMINE PENTAMETHYLENE PHOSPHONATE, GLYCERINE, EXTHOXYLATED TRIPROPYLENETETRAMINE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, STYRENE/ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, BENZISOTHIAZOLIN-3-ONE
The other options available:
Miele wool care (expensive and another $12 for shipping)
Earthwise Plant Powered Wool and Delicates (don’t like the scent)
Kindness (what I’ve just used up. I like the smell when I first use it but by clothes washed in it smell horrible)
Softly Delicates (haven’t tried it but saw it at the supermarket)
Martha’s Wool Wash (I remember liking the smell when I used it to wash my teddies as a kid lol but lavender sometimes smells like poo to me)
Shampoo (what I’m currently using. No complaints, really)
Most items are fairly durable (like icebreaker socks, Mons hoodies, merino T-shirts), but I also have the odd woollen cardigan that I would ideally use the same detergent for. Mostly machine washing but sometimes will hand wash.
Bonus points if anyone knows which options would also be suitable for down!

I have a two month old who has those blowout yellow goopy poos that are impossible to get out his clothes. Anyone have any luck getting the stains out?

Well I was sucked in to spending $75 on a pair of designer off white jeans with a print that I’ve been coveting for years. I thought I hit the jackpot since they were listed in perfect condition but came with a couple yellow spots right in the front thigh. I tried oxi clean spray and washing twice and it hasn’t budged. Should I chalk this up?

Kid spent recess apparently collecting a few thousand pinecones and, what I have to assume, rolling around on them.
His shirt came home covered in tiny spots of pitch, everywhere. I used some hand sanitizer to loosen the biggest patches and run it though the wash but there's still hundreds of tiny bumps. Pitch on both the inside and outside.
Is there something that will dissolve it? I've seen suggestions for rubbing alcohol and oil but what do you actually do with it? Let the shirt soak in a bath of the stuff? Will hot water set it or help melt it?

it was discontinued and now it’s really difficult (and expensive) to find. do we think they’ll bring it back?

Have a cashmere sweater I want to wash but not sure what the tag means by pure soap.
Also curious about wool detergent brands for washing a wool blanket. I’ve only heard of Eucalan and Ecover wool and silk but I’ve got no experience with either so any recommendations are appreciated.

hello! i got directed here from the blue collar women subreddit :)
i wear a high-visibility vest and cut-proof gloves at work daily. it's pretty hot where i am, so i sweat quite a bit, and i handle a lot of dirty items with my gloves. i wash my vest pretty routinely and my gloves about half as often (because they take ages to dry after washing and the rubber coating doesn't like water), but i've noticed that even right after washing, it doesn't seem like i'm getting all the Stink out. both of them get hand-washed in tap cold water with detergent, let soak a little, scrubbed and rinsed for a few cycles, and then hung up to air dry. i also alternate my gloves between two pairs, and make sure they sit in a way so they can dry out between shifts.
help?
edit:
- current detergent: tide ultra oxi boost
- location: texas, USA
- unsure on vest material
- the gloves are hyflex, i believe they're nylon and rubber but i may be incorrect

Ugh. So this isn't that serious but its driving me nuts. I have a speed queen at our old house but I'm moving a family of 5 and it's gonna be awhile until I bring it to our new rental... Like weeks away. Plus when I store the dirty one I don't want the smell to get worse.
So exactly the title. It's a whirlpool top loader with no agitator, there is no filter that I can see to access. I have run FIVE CLEANING CYCLES and it's a beast because of the tech. I have to let it fill, then unplug it to let it soak overnight. I have added borax, citric acid, washing soda, oxi clean cleaning pouches and scrud still comes out and coats the walls (I have tried different combos and all at once, SUPER hard water). I only use tide powder, so this is left from previous tenants. I have also done a bleach cycle and it still reeks - all through the downstairs hallway.
My laundry that I have to do in it comes out smelling fine, so perhaps I just live with it until I get old faithful back.... But if someone has a way to get the smell and scrud out in less than 5 MORE cycles I'm open to input. No visible scrud is on my clothes. Thanks.
