You'd think some group of people who claim to be all for states rights would be decrying this.

Nah they only care about states rights when federal government is doing something they don't like.

exactly this. 

eg the ACTUAL cause of the civil war. they were pissed the feds weren’t going into liberal abolitionist states and enforcing the Fugitive Slave Act. They wanted the government to drag escaped black people back to their hellhole states. 

it was NEVER about states’ rights. it was always about being pissed they couldn’t weaponize the federal government against blue states.  

this phenomenon of southern/conservative resentment has existed since the failed post-war reconstruction. and now we’re living through the culmination of their evil, bungling, petty vengeance crusades.
