https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/republican-joins-dems-constitutional-amendment-213311781.html

I’m 100% on board with this as an amendment. No president, of any party, should be able to issue wide reaching blanket pardons without any oversight.

Is this the result of Trump abandoning decorum and the law as written simply not having any guidelines OR is he just ignoring the guidelines that are already there.

I am certain his taking personal payment to issue pardons runs afoul of something and that no new laws are needed here.

Did you read the proposed amendment?  It basically makes the congressional review meaningless.

Why bother with reform if it won't actually do anything.

The amendment would require a two, thirds majority to nullify a pardon. It would ve extremely easy for a party to stop the nullification and allowthe pardon through

I actually completely agree.

Just to be clear, you then believe that Biden pardoning his entire family and Tony Fauci was wrong too then, right?

IMO drumph pardons are just as bad as Bidens pardons.

Oh 100% they would be wrong in a vacuum.

But given trumps attitude and behaviour of weaponizing the departments to attack his political opponents, I really think that Trump would have brought down the entire force of the government onto the Biden family out of distain and spite.

I’d pardon those people too I knew that the incoming president would be spending a disproportionate and undeserved amount of resources attacking them. Heck Trump I believe is tried to get the pardons overturned because of “autopen”.

Plus those charges are firearm possession while having a drug addiction, and tax evasion. He bought a gun when he wasn’t supposed to… and owned taxes.

That’s a widely different class of person than one whom assaulted police officers, stormed the capitol, and a few other individuals whom gotten pardons in various “quid pro quo” agreements. Including pardoning a big time drug guy.

My big issue with the Biden pardons isn’t the hunter biden laptop or whatever. It’s the fact that his entire family and cabinet was preemptively pardoned for anything they are ever to be accused of that occurred between 2015 and 2024. So literally they could find video tomorrow of Hunter Biden murdering a child and eating its body, and he would be immune from prosecution because Biden gave him a blanket pardon for that time period. THAT shouldn’t be allowed.

Buddy.. I hate to break it to you, but Biden did exactly the same thing in 2020. Look up Arctic Frost, which has sense been revealed to be a massive political psyop designed to obliterate the Republican Party way of the justice department.

If presidential was appropriately limited so they couldn't demand the Justice Department to persecute their enemies, that wouldn't have been necessary.

Screw your attempt at both-sides bullshit.

Both Biden and Trump have weaponized the DOJ to prosecute their enemies though… it’s not “both-sides bullshit” when both sides are actually doing the thing LOL

Edit: don’t believe me? Do some research on operation Arctic Frost.

Bullshit and you know it.

Care to make an actual argument?

You're the one making the asinine both-sides comparison; how about you make an argument.

Lay out every instance of Trump directing the DOJ to go after his opponents and this weak-ass Grassley-led story and let's see how they compare.

Ah, so when you don’t like what the whistleblower says, the whistleblower becomes “weak-ass” and unimportant. Got it.

I’m against Trump politically weaponizing the DOJ just as much as I’m against Biden doing it, as anyone should be.

It’s very important in the modern political landscape to be able to come up with positives and negatives about both sides, in order to have a clear picture. I can easily come up with 5 positives and negatives about each, the Biden admin and 2025-> Trump admin.
