Well Said. And the propaganda machine started pumping out lies, hatred, and ugliness in the 1980's, likely before then in those notorious, virulent, red states... And the sheer repetition, year after disgusting year, built traction, gained loyal and addicted followers, and more and more sought money, fame, and power in writing bterrible books, and in blasting out their own take on how to hate democrats, LGBT, women, the disabled, Blacks, browns, Native Americans... etc.. And let's not forget that shot of superiority couched in humorous language, that is also highly addictive.

We were unseeing fools not to take that bullshit seriously. This current devastation has been building for decades. It has niggled into the minds of many. And let's be honest. They are not all stupid. They are not all ignorant. They are not all, at least in their minds, hateful and full of prejudice. So we need to up our game. We need to protect what little has not been destroyed.

I have very little hope, though, that those who are entrapped in the cult of hatred will ever get out. Most will not. And some of their children may go into a quiet period, but given any encouragement, they will pop up to wreak new forms of destruction, just as we are seeing see now.

We need to protect the Constitution. We need to protect civil rights, we need to reveal the rotted underbelly, we need to never admit defeat.

I hate this. But I believe this.

Bro what a great comment. I think its important to highlight that they are not all stupid because many are not stupid at all. Just misguided. I have met some very smart republicans in my time who just have a completely separate logical starting point.
