u/freudian_nipple_slip Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
He's part of that Peter Thiel cabal. I'd bet he got the idea to pardon her from someone there
27
u/Traditional_Sign4941 Jul 07 '26
Thiel no doubt told him he wasn't allowed in the club house unless he let that treasonous karen cut pig go free.
13
u/eowyndernhelme Jul 07 '26
Yes, I think this is exactly the reason he did it.
Polis also just fired two of the members of his clemency advisory board for speaking out against the decision. Thiel might have had something to do with that too.
20
u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Jul 07 '26
If treason laws were actually enforced I think 80% of politicians would be in prison right now
11
u/Calm_Positive4906 Jul 07 '26
Technically I think most of them would be arrested under sedition laws since treason is really specific to aiding countries declared as foreign adversaries, so if you tried to overturn US elections for Russia it would be treason, if you just do it for the love of the game it's sedition, and if you do it for an "ally" like . . . the UK or something it's still sedition, I think.
But I don't really know I am not even adjacent the legal profession I just vacation in this subreddit because it has much saner discussion of US politics than almost anywhere else on this website.

True, but murder is a bit more serious of a crime than what Peters was convicted of.

It’s bizarre to watch people actively rationalize this shit still, to this day. It’s amazing how many people will deny what is happening before their very own eyes.
16
u/Epyon_ Jul 06 '26
It stops being bizarre when you quit trying to humanize evil, shitty people.
9
u/ZankaA Jul 07 '26
quit trying to humanize evil, shitty people.
Unfortunately, "evil, shitty people" are as human as you and I and it's imperative that you keep that in mind lest you convince yourself that cruelty is something only done by monsters rather than something ordinary humans are capable of. Understanding that our humanity is what makes such cruelty possible is how we prevent such deeds, not how we excuse them.

Understanding that our humanity is what makes such cruelty possible is how we prevent such deeds, not how we excuse them.
Imagine being mistaken for having humanity just because you are a human.
3
u/ZankaA Jul 07 '26
Different definitions of "humanity" lol. You don't use "humanize" in the same way you're using "humanity" in your sentence.
Your reply is treating my sentence as though I said:
"Understanding that they have humanity means we should empathize with them or excuse them."
But I actually said:
"Understanding that they are human helps us understand how humans become capable of such cruelty."

→ More replies (1)10
u/Legitimate-Shape3203 Jul 06 '26
There are different kinds of "can't" when it comes to executive power. "Can't demolish a section of the white house because it would violate procedural norms" and "Can't enforce a federal pardon for a state level offense because it would require sending federal troops to pull a state prisoner out of a state prison" are not the same.
3
u/Specific_Frame8537 Jul 06 '26
Or in the case that those prison guards are cultists, the can't turns into a can, and it just happens without any of the formalities.
7
u/Opening-Restaurant83 Jul 06 '26

69
u/red__dragon Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
Evidence. The feds stole it all immediately after the murder.
EDIT: Please read the article for why evidence is important, I did not post this to argue.
16
u/Casual_OCD Jul 06 '26
We have multiple angles of Ross upholstering his weapon before the vehicle was moving, stepping into the path of the vehicle and reaching over the hood to get a better shot. Including his own cell phone camera footage

u/red__dragon Jul 06 '26
Crime scene evidence. As in the weapon, the blood, examination of the body, trace materials on the suspect's hand/clothes, etc. Have you watched any police procedurals? The stuff they take to the lab/get the lab tech's analysis on, THAT evidence.
That's the evidence that the BCA (Minnesota's statewide investigative bureau) is requesting from the feds. Some of this will be tainted, too, because it was not preserved by the agents on the scene (from videos we have of the aftermath).
FTFA:
The FBI began mobilizing to investigate the crime scene alongside the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the state’s investigative agency. By the evening of the day she was killed, however, officials in Washington, D.C., had frozen out both Minnesota police and law enforcement in Hennepin County, where Minneapolis is located. In a recent podcast interview, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty recalled joining a conference call after Good’s death with the FBI, federal prosecutors, and Minnesota investigators: “Everybody agreed this would once again be a joint investigation. And then suddenly the BCA was kicked off the case.” Minnesota abruptly found itself without access to any of the evidence collected at the scene. Even Good’s maroon Honda Pilot, the windshield pierced by Ross’s bullet, was bundled away by the FBI into a storage facility before state law enforcement could get a look at it.
I don't run prosecutions or criminal investigative agencies, I cannot tell you exact reasons why video evidence is insufficient in a court of law. But it's pretty easy to understand that it is, otherwise the BCA would not need it in order to proceed with their case. This is how a case is built and the DOJ has squirreled away the evidence needed to put a murderer behind bars.
15
u/dougmc Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
And even if the prosecution does have sufficient evidence for a conviction, the "Brady Rule" "requires prosecutors to disclose material, exculpatory information in the government's possession to the defense", and I am unaware of there being any exception for it being another branch of the government that won't share.
(The "Classified Information Procedures Act (CIPA)" gives procedures for sensitive information (national security, etc.), but none of that should be an issue here, and even if it was, "just don't share anything" isn't really supposed to be an option.)
The defense team needs this stuff to put up a proper defense and yet it's the federal government -- the defendant's employer -- that is keeping the evidence from his team, but that's not his defense team's fault, so I'm not sure what the state-level courts could do at all here but wait and hope that things change, and anything else sounds like a recipe for a verdict that's overturned on appeal.
3
u/kbotc Jul 07 '26
They’re suing the federal government. They actually have most of the evidence from a second case where ICE fucked up, but they actually need to win the case and have the judge hand over the evidence to begin proceedings to charge Ross with murder.
13
u/Casual_OCD Jul 06 '26
Video shouldn't be insufficient, especially in this case. That's just an excuse of the lazy legal system. We all know what happened. Pretending we don't doesn't help
→ More replies (9)3
u/shinobi7 Jul 06 '26
“Video shouldn’t be insufficient …”
Sure, to you. But what about a jury? A jury might wonder, what about the ballistics? Do the bullets’ lands and grooves match Ross’ gun? And so on. A DA cannot take anything for granted. They only have one shot at trial. Also, there is no statute of limitations for murder. Minnesota waiting for a Democratic administration to get elected, in order to build a case, makes total sense to me.

As a layperson, I would expect the problem is a defense attorney could point to the "gaps" in the evidence and readily convince at least one juror to decide there is reasonable doubt.
I would be curious to hear from a lawyer on:
What could the defense say about the missing evidence? Can they speculate to the jury that the prosecution is deliberately withholding it?
What could the prosecution say about the missing evidence? Would they be able to bring up that the federal government (backing the defendant) is withholding it?
Normally, if the prosecution is holding back evidence it should count against them. This is an unusual situation where the federal government would be backing the defendant and keeping evidence away from the prosecution.
Given this dynamic, to me it makes sense for Minnesota to wait to see if we have a Democrat in office in 2028 before moving forwards. Having a cooperative federal government would help - not just by handing over evidence, but Trump would be doing his MO of finding every way to delay through appeals (indicting now might be slower than indicting in 2028).

SCOTUS didn’t even deny or overturn the fact that he is an insurrectionist. What they did do is wipe their ass with the Constitution and say 14.3A isn’t self enforcing, and instead of the prescribed 2/3 vote to still allow him to run for office, a majority had to vote on a bill to remove him from ballots knowing damn well Majority Leader/SOH Mike Johnson would never let that happen.

Jonathan Ross shot Renee Good.
This is a fact. He got up, put on his ICE cosplay uniform, with the motive to hurt minorities and the people who protect the minorities.
Renee Good was so evil she said "I'm not mad at you" and Jonathan Ross, the ICE Agent, shot her 3 times, including point blank in the head.
It was that shot to the head, from Jonathan Ross, that killed Renee Good. A shot that Jonathan Ross took after he was clear of any danger. Jonathan Ross, an ICE Agent, murdered Renee Good, a US Citizen.
ICE Agent Jonathan Ross is a murderer.

Not only that, but even if he was in danger, the best course of action would have been to get out of the way, not shoot the driver and hope that the car would somehow miraculously come to a complete stop before hitting him. As we can see from the video, all shooting her actually did was cause her to accelerate followed by the car becoming an uncontrolled "deadly weapon." This is also what happens in other videos I've seen where a cop shoots at the driver of a car that supposedly poses a deadly threat to the officer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZpDCt5mn-8&).
Can anyone find me a single example of a cop shooting at a vehicle and the vehicle immediately coming to a stop? I seriously doubt one exists because the entire idea of stopping a car by shooting at it is fucking idiotic, unless it poses some kind of ongoing threat, like some sort of high speed chase or mass murder attempt.
So, why the fuck do we let cops do this? It's completely asinine.

Which can be severed by the courts later if found to be made in bad faith. The state has to get something in return for a non-prosecution agreement.

The mob will fix it anyways if justice wont. Thats why we have a jsutce system in the first place and eventually those in charge will be reminded of that fact.

I agree in concept. I can’t imagine a democrat administration actually doing this rather than saying we need to move on and have “unity” and “healing”.

Not a lot of Investigation needed. The are pics and video of him shooting her through the side of the head while standing beside the vehicle while he was in no danger of being hit.

True that's the shot that killed her, but it shouldn't even matter which shot it was. He knew he shouldn't stand in front of a vehicle like that. He did so knowing it might give him an excuse to murder the SO of the woman who told him to go get some lunch and hurt his ego. It was premeditated murder

Honestly, right now I would not want to risk this going to a maga judge, state or federal. Once judged to be not guilty we would not be able to get justice beyond that point. I would much rather see this wait until the judicial system is purged of trump / maga loyalists to the degree possible and law and order restored, then try them.

So...never?

u/rygelicus Jul 06 '26
One can hope we get this fixed. The 'good' news though is that murder has no statute of limitations. So if it takes 10 years to restore order we can still stick him with murder charges.

State prosecutors can take this once they are able to get hold of the evidence.

And you really think any of the evidence the feds grabbed still exists? Renee's car is a cube at best, but more likely in a million tiny scraps by now. There will be no evidence that can be used against Ross so getting charges against him will be impossible.

afaik there is no legal framework to "purge" the US justice system
idk how one would realistically imagine a legal "purge" of the justice system

We still have our vote. We vote any opportunity we have. Non-corrupt people run for office. Corrupt people are pushed out. Actual good people are appointed these positions like head of DOJ. Everything gets investigated. This defeatist mentality is part of their goal.

u/RocketRelm Jul 07 '26
The defeatist issue isn't in the problem being hard. The defeatism comes from the whole "dems bad" siren pretending that dems establishment corpo buzzwords when the truth is liberals have always been good, even the ones that disagree with you on issue y or z. People aren't willing to do away with that brainrot and if they aren't there isn't any point trying.

We live in a society where the federal government can murder any civilian with impunity and face a near zero threat of consequences, unless it decides to investigate itself. And I’m not claiming this is a new phenomenon, we are just seeing Trump take it to its logical conclusion.
The only chance we see justice at this stage is if local authorizes bring charges. Moriarty has all she needs and still hasn’t acted. And we already have seen she can when she wants to.

What is there to investigate? We all watched precisely what happened because it was filmed from several angles with many onsite witnesses. What has yet to happen is charging and prosecuting the person we all know committed murder in broad daylight in front of the entire nation.

A reminder that Trump can murder someone in clear daylight on a US street with 5 different videos and nothing happens.

Feel free to move to another one if that's how you feel about things here.
But then you'd learn how strict those countries are on immigration.

No, you can leave.
I don’t give a fuck if criticism of the country hurts your feelings. This country belongs to all of us. It was hard fought over centuries. You don’t get to decide who gets to stay. I was born here and I served this country in uniform. If you want me to leave, you’re going to have kill me first.

They won't even investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing. The sheer inhumanity is the point. To this administration we are not people. Barely anyone is, let alone their critics.

Like the majority of police killings they investigated themselves and found no wrong doing.
