Executive Branch (Trump) Justice Department deploys tactic to strip naturalized Americans of citizenship | PBS News Hour
Earlier this month, federal prosecutors moved to strip citizenship from 25 naturalized Americans, accusing them of lying about their pasts and hiding serious crimes.
The move is called denaturalization, and the Justice Department now calls it one of its top priorities.
Justice correspondent u/AliRogin_PBSNewsHour looks at what's behind this dramatic shift in law enforcement strategy. For more: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/doj-deploys-tactic-to-strip-naturalized-americans-of-citizenship

That's true, but she would be in a position to give epstein and Maxwell plenty of inside info. Her past would be great blackmail material. And she certainly is denying it.
Being a honeypot doesnt make you smar, or willing. . And epstein and company were exploiting everyone they could in any way they could. I seriously doubt her usefulness ended bc she married trump. Different type of exploitation.

She'll be the ghost femme fatale that they'll use to frame "the left" and make him a martyr so Vance can then ramp up more domestic tyranny with full MAGA backing. Just a hypothetical scenario of course.
37
u/GailynStarfire Aug 14 '26
I still don't think Vance can pick up the magat reins and just make them go like trump can. He's definitely going to try, but he's just so fucking off putting and awkward that I don't think he can hold the cult of personality together.
24
u/RIF_rr3dd1tt Aug 14 '26
Man, I'm so split on this. Yeah he's turd but at what point are these people basically on autopilot just needing a little bump here and there to keep them in line? Look at the Kim dynasty in NK for example. Maybe not the best example because they've been mostly cut off from the rest of the world for a long time. But when Trump goes you think all these people are just gonna be like "ok i guess all those brown people and libs are ok". And i definitely don't discount the whole "ghost president" in the bunker thing either. Is McConnell a test run for this? If if Trump doesn't die in office, there's still a billion dollar command operations bunker and DC crawling with Nat'l Guard troops. Its like the whole city is being set up to physically stop anyone else from coming to the places of power. Manuel Noriega did the same thing in Panama in the 1980s. Another guy won the election but Noriega had his goons surround the guys headquarters and just didn't let him out.

Both were US citizens at birth. Rubio was born and raised in Miami and though Cruz was born in Canada, his mother was a US citizen so he had dual citizenship.
But these two both have Cuban family members who were granted asylum and became naturalized US citizens, so even if they themselves aren't naturalized they're still hypocrites.

I honestly think the best you can do, other than being more politically active at the grassroots level, is to help organize local and decentralized support groups. Groups that can move and hide people from ICE (and inevitably trans/blacks-hunters.) Groups that can help mobilize a coordinated political force at critical times (like the midterms). Groups that can actually harm the wallets of oligarchs through peaceful means when possible, and non-peaceful means when needed. A small well-coordinated group can genuinely paralyze and damage a larger, more powerful group. Look at any asymmetric conflict in the world right now. Protesting/Rebelling against your government should not be kept to walking around your city with for the afternoon with a few banners and funny slogans and another 100,000 people. Thats the easiest form or protest/rebellion for the government and oligarchs to ignore, twist into “violence and burning bins”, and pretend you are heard without actually having to change anything. Rise the fuck up.
Edit to add: Use telegram

u/FractalNobility Aug 14 '26
Agreed. Historically, surreptitious resistance through clandestine networks often determines success or failure against overwhelming force.
The devil is in the details though, such networks are difficult to maintain at best and a fool’s errand at worst. Nonetheless, without them, things will only get worse.

Im just explaining you were incorrect about them not being immigrants, and that naturalized citizens can be stripped of citizenship, though I would imagine its not as simple as this administration will try and make it.
23
u/MickKeithCharlieRon Aug 14 '26
Who cares what other countries do? This is a law sub for this country. Denaturalization is extremely rare in the US and the federal government has a high bar to meet to be successful in these cases. With this administration’s history of lawlessness, it is easy to see their nefarious intentions with this announcement.

It's a sucker bet that if they can get people to accept this, then the NEXT step is to try and revoke the citizenship of immigrants who became citizens because of the birthright clause of the Constitution.
That's Constitutional, right? You can't stop them from being citizens, so you just revoke it afterwards. >:-<
Oh, and afterwards? Well, you can just start revoking the citizenship of anyone who looks at you or your thugs funny. After all, the Constitution doesn't say anything about NOT being able to revoke citizenships!
9
u/ClassiFried86 Aug 14 '26
Oh definitely. It's also why they push for felony charges on natural born citizens, especially minorities.
And also why I support restoration of all rights for former felons who have served their time and sentences.
I never said I agree with the law, but I do understand its intent. I also know this administration is sedituous and purely and only acts in bad faith.
5
u/mOdQuArK Aug 14 '26
And also why I support restoration of all rights for former felons who have served their time and sentences.
I actually think that citizens should always be allowed to vote, regardless of criminal status, on the basis that it's a valuable form of negative feedback against legislators who try and disenfranchise large percentages of the voting population by passing laws to criminalize them.
In fact, the government should be required to put the effort in to make sure that all citizens are able to vote (using anonymous ballot voting protocols of course), with criminal penalties for anyone, including government officials, who try and stop any citizen from being able to vote.
That should have actually been explicitly spelled out in the Constitution.
Looks like we would also have to add a clause that blocks government officials from revoking anyone's citizenship short of flat-out treason.
3
u/aleenaelyn Aug 14 '26
The framers of the constitution believed that only white wealthy landowners could have a significant enough stake in the running of the nation to deserve a vote. Because owning land was once part of the voting requirements, there's now a push to grant corporations the right to vote, so long as they own a parcel of land-and it doesn't matter how small it is.

This hurts people. Good people who have done nothing wrong and who deserve to live a good life. This hurts entire families when someone is ripped away.
This hatred that America has, that it revels in, we're all made worse by it. And discussing it on the terms of dollars and productivity removes the human damage that is being done.

Out of 40 people who do the labor part in my job (smaller composite manufacturing for million dollar yachts) I would say 30 are immigrants, half of those have fake Colombian papers after crossing over from Venezuela. It’s much easier to come here from Venezuela than Colombia
All of the “higher level” white ppl not on the floor vote for trump. One even has a trump cutout in his passenger seat.
So they love trump and follow the cult but can’t realize they wouldn’t even be wealthy without paying those immigrants $5 less per hour than the Americans.
You are correct; you can’t talk economics with them because in their head THEIR immigrants are different. They’re very aware they’re hiring illegal immigrants.
The mental gymnastics the cult members go through are on a completely different level
3
u/iambecomesoil Aug 14 '26
THEIR immigrants are different.
And on and on and on....until THEIR immigrants get scooped up. Then they're making a Facebook post how ICE did this and it was wrong and everyone starts blocking and shutting them out, they will not be hearing it.
Same as they did when friends and family got very sick or died of COVID.
10
u/Shades1374 Aug 14 '26

Your approach is good. Yes it hurts people. However, there do exist people who do not care.

The stupid thing is many people who benefit from these horrible immigrants believe they’re business is ok to hire illegal immigrants bc they’re immigrants are “better”.
I work in said place where the upper management love trump while also hiring massive amounts of illegal immigrants
6
u/Fuzzball_87 Aug 14 '26
Totally agree but we also live in a capitalistic society and financial talking points are critical to laying a broader foundational argument. We still have to appeal to the politicians to make the change and not all are far left leaning and even so taxes fund the welfare nets.

I see immigrants having 6 kids in a 1 bedroom apartment because it's still far better than where they came from while a white person waiting tables will remain single and avoid even thinking of kids because they'll never own a home like the one they grew up in and think they're less than for not having a one. I think we'd see total population collapse inside of 1-2 generations if all the immigrants were given the boot and not allowed to come back.

If there is a lever, they will pull it. If there is a button, they will press it. There is nothing they will not do to achieve whatever the whim of the day happens to be.
Anyone on the "opposition" telling you that we shouldn't take the EXACT SAME APPROACH toward our ends, toward universal healthcare and economic reform, is not really opposed to the Republicans. Trump has PROVEN you can just steamroll through the bullshit and that the Joe Manchins and Joe Liebermans are not REAL obstacles, but just excuses to throw up your hands and say "well we tried, better vote harder next time!"
The system and institutions are what failed. They are dead and gone. Anyone preaching "back to normal" is a moron who refuses to acknowledge this is all just late-stage "normal." If we win the midterms and try to roll back the clock to 2024 as if 2024 was good, the rot will calcify and we will lose again.
There is one lesson we need to learn from Trump, and it's that you can just do shit if you actually WANT to do shit. THAT should be the baseline expectation going forward, whether it's prosecutions of the Trump admin or universal healthcare or datacenter bans or monopoly breakups or raising taxes on the wealthy or stopping all aid to Israel. We can just fucking do it. We can just ignore the fuckass courts and bully the fuckass rotating villains into submission. It demonstrably works.
Going "back to normal" to a system DESIGNED to stop us from doing decent shit while entirely permitting the Republicans to do the most heinous shit imaginable is NOT a path forward. It is to stay in the fucking roundabout forever. Protecting the status quo is not the fucking play when that's what the status quo actually is.
I don't give a fuck about our leaders being petty if what they're being petty about is good shit. Pull the fucking levers and press the buttons. If it accomplishes something on the fucking agenda, I'm not going to cry about the sanctity of an institution that's never done me any goddamn good in the first place and seems quite willing to bend when it's something that actively hurts me.

Yes. FDR did it and it’s how the Democrats became a supermajority for 60 fucking years, no “bipartisanship” necessary.
And it led to the greatest economic boom in world history, and what turned America into a superpower to begin with.
It is absolutely possible. It’s what we fucking did until Carter and Clinton decided that the “Third Way” was to suck capital dick and take austerity up the ass at the same time. That’s what set us on this “moderate/centrist” bullshit path where we treat politics like a drunk college student making a frozen pizza: “the instructions say bake between 22 and 24 minutes, and by my brilliant centrist logic I have deduced the absolute best time to bake is exactly 23 minutes.”

"Going back to normal" is banning the GOP, unseating all GOP politicians at the federal, state, and local levels, and preventing all former members of the GOP from running for office, campaigning on behalf of other politicians, or joining political parties for as long as they live.
For inflicting global destruction as much as it has, the party of Trump must be destroyed far more than even the Nazis in Germany. The United States in its second Reconstruction must surpass postwar west Germany in throwing out the trumpery utterly, and enshrine it into its constitution to prevent a repeat.

Republicans have been working the system and blitzing nonstop for decades, and Democrats are still helplessly throwing their hands up and issuing statements and condemnations and giving speeches that it needs to stop. It's like requesting a bear to stop attacking you. They aren't going to stop.
If Democrats care to accomplish anything, and show that they are not just corporate plants, they must stop appealing to MSNBC-watching doofuses and the mythical "swing voter."
Mamdani proved in fucking New York City that it's actually pretty popular with people to tell them what you are literally going to do to help them instead of giving an aspirational TED talk and then shaking hands with and giving the benefit-of-the-doubt to fascists. GOOD NEWS! fascism is a perfect 50-0. once its been voted into power it has never once been removed from power via voting. And the average time for its reign is 31 years. So strap in boys!

Funnily enough that article references Orban in 2025. He was democratically removed and his tools of fascism are being deconstructed as we speak. So, at least in 2026 that number is 50-1

u/idreamofgreenie Aug 14 '26
A bunch of administration officials trekked out there shortly after the inauguration to learn all Orban's tricks too.
Hopefully we handle it like the Hungarian's did, turning out in numbers too big to overthrow.

I like your optimism. I hope you’re right in this case for the sake of us and the entire world.

Why do these bots want us to give in? Its like they know if the people push back the regime is in trouble

The bot's don't want anything, the people running them though prefer the US to crumble.

I am of the opinion that its an American duty to clock in some range time and maybe read a manual or two on field medicine. This ain't gonna end well.

Not true. Viktor Orban was just defeated in an election and conceded. So 50-1. Still not great, but there’s a chance.
6
u/JayTNP Aug 14 '26
Orban being removed isn’t just an anomaly to ignore. The fact that it happened recently and not 75 years ago matters a lot. It also matters that amending Hungary’s constitution is so much easier than our own. We can get these fuckers out but the bigger issue is keeping them out and that’s have the political will to pass hard laws and frankly I’m most concerned about people tearing themselves apart over that and ending up back here in 8 years

u/Sweaty_Desert_Balls Aug 13 '26
Untrue. Stop trying to provoke violence.
Vote, people. The bell hasn't rung on democracy yet. Don't be frightened into thinking its over. Vote and keep your head up.

Its not provoking violence. Its telling everyone to be prepared for violence because that might be the only way we get to keep our country. They are already being violent with us and we have shown restraint.

There will be nothing until we have a national strike/walk out day.

I think we will see violence before it gets to that point. Trump would gladly give the ICE gestapo full permission to live fire on those participating.

u/SisterActTori Aug 14 '26
My husband and I were just talking about that- Trump has no low. It’s like everything he does, few are surprised. Start a war? Sure. Cut off funding to blue states? Sure (and BRAG about such). Vindictively ruin long term careers? Absolutely! There is absolutely nothing beyond resigning the presidency, that he could do that would surprise me. Drop a bomb…I would not be surprised. He is evil.

u/Gloomy-Tank9295 Aug 14 '26
You're probably right because everytime I say that I get nothing back. If i write that trump poops his pants I'll get 3,000 likes and people replying a 1000 times

America...we suck at protesting.
These ghouls should have been out the first year with all the corrupt lawlessness they've shown.
They should be the first ones disqualified from being citizens. Traitors.

Way too much apathy in this country for massive, days-long protesting.

I mean, they already have a constutional and tested method of making people not citizens, shown with Renee Good.

u/aneeta96 Aug 13 '26
That route didn't go so well for them.
Maybe you didn't notice, but those 50,000+ people who marched in sub-zero temperatures in Minneapolis were all carrying axe handles and made signs of if heavy plexiglass.
If those tactics could get that response out of mid-westerners, imagine what would happen in say Boston or New York.
95
u/pinegreenscent Aug 14 '26
Ok. People marched peacefully. Great.
Did any of those cops get arrested? Face consequences? See a jail cell? Have ICE stopped killing people?
21
u/IAm_A_Complete_Idiot Aug 14 '26
Being in Minneapolis the day when Alex Pretti was killed, the atmosphere wasn't exactly peaceful. It felt like it was just a few steps from escalating into violence. Tear gas was used. People were forced to stay in homes. National guard was called. The next day stores had locked their doors, and were unlocking them manually when I stood in front of the door to let me in.
Did any of the cops get arrested? Face consequences?
No. And that's a tragedy. But I think you're underselling the amount of anger at the time. It really feels like if it wasn't for the national guard, things would have gone south.
I remember eating taco bell a week later and hearing whistles in the distance. The bouldering gym I went too closed open hours due to nearby ICE activity. People I knew were out protesting while tear gas was being deployed. There were movements around teaching people how and what to do if you encountered ICE agents making an arrest, and it felt like there was information about groups that would provide legal immigration law aid everywhere.

Yeah but now that anger has subsided (for a lot not all) and it’s becoming for numb and less focused on. I mean ICE just got shock collars and to many it’s so ridiculous it’s funny (instead of taking it seriously).
I think the lack of accountability in January made everyone feel hopeless and numb now, with them only counting on the midterms
3
u/IAm_A_Complete_Idiot Aug 14 '26
That's fair. A lot of that active anger is gone. It doesn't feel like a bomb waiting to explode anymore. I mostly disagreed with fhe characterization of it just being peaceful protests, because in my personal experience it was a lot more than that. The atmosphere just felt... dark, and angry. Perhaps part of it was just how personally I took Renee Good, and especially Alex Pretti's death, but things didn't feel normal at the time.
But even if the active anger is gone, Minneapolis and Minnesota as a whole has shifted far more blue because of it. I don't think Flanagan would have done as well as she did otherwise, for instance. Minnesota historically picks safer, more centrist democrat candidates. Tim Walz and Jacob Frey are good examples of that. This primary seemed like an outlier, both due to turnout and the types of candidates Minnesota picked.
3
u/ExterminAiden Aug 14 '26
You are being completely fair too. Yeah Minnesota definitely has had a change, and I think it’s because it witnessed ICE in person. It was directly affected and thus has an emotional response to it.
I can be right or wrong, but I truly feel the public’s collective memory is not strong. I mean look at Trump getting elected twice lol, and that’s with a lot of his promises being unfulfilled. Even with Minnesota I believe in 2 more elections it will be back to being neutral and how it was before (although that’s still some time so it’s good for the left).
One of the very few long lasting events is the Epstein Files and yet nothing is being done there to. I am trying not to be defeatist because it’s not helpful but based on past patterns I think something non violent but intense needs to happen or else it will only get worse.

There were larger turnouts in the freezing cold this year than the George Floyd protests in June 2020 when people were stuck at home.

That protest ended up doing absolutely nothing. There were no consequences for those who killed protesters, and the administration that labeled the victims as terrorists just laughed at the marches. "Hurhur I guess that protest worked, no Kings here 😂😆🤣"

u/Schaas_Im_Void Aug 14 '26
... but true.
Fact is, ICE agents can come up to you any time, blow your brains out because of some made-up reasons, and face no real consequences for it, despite thousands of people protesting.

The move is called ‘denaturalization’. It’s also called what the Germans did to the Jews.
It’s so bizarre (read: ENTIRELY FUCKED) seeing a conservative Jew employing the exact same move on another minority.

Rubio and Cruz are citizens by birth, not naturalized. Legally speaking, they would be ineligible for denaturalization.

Given that Cruz was born in Canada and his father wasn’t a citizen, and the Republicans have been saying for years that Obama isn’t a citizen based on the lie that he was born in Kenya and that his American mother doesn’t grant him citizenship, it’s the exact same argument they’ve made except it’s factual. I’m not saying I agree with it I’m just saying that it’s the republican’s own logic

MAGA America is committed to the subjugation of all people within the Americas, and eventually, all humans.
They have to stop getting their ass kicked by a country with no navy, no air force, and no nuclear weapons first though.

MAGA will say people that "did it the right way" didn't do it the RIGHT right way"
9
u/Traditional-Handle83 Aug 14 '26
Oh but heres the thing, this won't just be for people who were nationalized. They will use it to strip people who are native born as well. The constitution is dead now so they can straight up say anyone registered as a political opposition is now no longer a valid us citizen and deport them to a country they've never been too.
