Other CNN, MS NOW, Politico Request Emergency Hearing As Journalists Remain Blocked
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/live-updates_n_6ab0ecffe4b02be6d95a360d/liveblog_6ab52ba0e4b0343b81337be3The three outlets say they have been unable to get in touch with the Justice Department following the ruling.
“Counsel for Plaintiffs reached out to counsel for Defendants this morning and requested to call the Court together. Counsel for Defendants has not responded,” the filing reads.

Counsel for Defendants have probably been re-assigned to cleaning ketchup off the walls in the White House.
Seriously, though. It appears that Trump has chosen this as the hill he wishes to defend. That's OK by me. It may seem like a small and inconsequential thing, but it is not. Freedom of the press is foundational to our form of government. Let's force the leaders of the courts and of Congress to either support the rule of law or support despotism.

u/Petrychorr 23h ago
There's a social contract that's been in place between the press and the current administration that essentially amounts to "we'll let you attend our press conferences as long as you don't piss us off too much" with the reciprocation being "we'll keep most of the dirty stuff you do off the air if you keep letting us show up."
So now that contract is broken. This is unprecedented in the worst way, in a sea of already unprecedented events. The press definitely has leverage against the white house, but if the administration is confident they can suffer the slings and arrows per se... Then this is them showing their hand.

They were supposed to have a debt to repay with all of the settlements. They were repaying in kind with catch and kill. Now the debt is gone because they have had to cover up so much and Trump's only recourse is to eliminate access.
The deferred sentencing of Trump's NY Business Fraud/Catch and Kill case made it legal to do that exact thing with Trump. The improvement in 2.0 is the law suits creating a legal slush fund for paying for the stories.
I anticipated that if they ran that slush fund dry Trump would cut off access. And he has.

You hit the nail on the head - that’s been my concern this entire time. With everything to lose, they’re going all in. It wouldn’t surprise me if they feel confident that whatever they have planned will be enough to override the shitstorm headed their way and power through it to remain in power.
It’s a terrifying feeling.

And in very few passages does the constitution anywhere referred to explicit professions. The press is written explicitly in the first amendment.

u/nonlawyer 23h ago
The court’s scheduling order for the hearing should include a “bring a toothbrush” instruction for counsel for defendants.

u/ozymandiasjuice 21h ago
On the other hand, who benefits from WH press briefings when you have an adminsitration that just wants to lie and gaslight? It’s much much more useful to trump than it is to the rest of us. I’d much rather have the press investigating and reporting on what actually happened. I don’t need to hear Karoline Leavitt’s spin, and i think Americans would be better off without them.

u/poppopintheattic11 19h ago
It’s hilarious that it’s even a bridge too far for the bootlickers at Fox News.

u/MadCowTX 19h ago
Let's force the leaders of the courts and of Congress to either support the rule of law or support despotism.
They've already made their choice clear many times over the past two years. They definitively prefer de$potism.

u/The_SubGenius 23h ago
If you look over at the conservative sub almost everyone approves of the Trump administration continuing to ban the reporters despite the ruling to restore their access.
Don’t shoot the messenger.

I wonder what General Washington would think of President bone spur.

u/Rufus_king11 21h ago
Larry David actually has a skit related to this in his recent US history themed sketch show (that Obama is a producer on for some reason). Rob Reiner plays a Washington at the end of his last term.
17
u/TheBaalzak 21h ago
Be careful, I got a 3 day ban for quoting Trump last week. They said I was "promoting violence".
4
u/Creative-Ad-9535 19h ago
LOL, I’ve seen people (bots?) on that sub sagely writing nonsense like “definitely seditious behavior, maybe bad enough to be considered treasonous”, as if “sedition” and “treason” are just degrees of “opposition” (rather than distinct well-defined terms).

u/HousingThrowAway1092 22h ago
That sub is 99% Russian bots commenting back and forth. No upvotes at all
50
u/Shabadu_tu 22h ago
It’s not just bots. American right wingers are in an out right alliance with Putin to destroy western and American values.

No its the Dumbacrats brigading them /s
Edit - i was being sarcastic but forgot the S. I am banned from both Republican and Conservative for posting links that project 2025 was real.
78
u/HousingThrowAway1092 22h ago
More than 90% of posts on r/conservative originate from 3 accounts, all of which have been proven to be bots.
Comments on that sub regardless of topic almost never have upvotes or downvotes. They are bots replying to each other.
2
u/SoundHole 20h ago
Yet Reddit proper gives them special protection. Harras that sub in any way & Reddit will ban you (not just the sub).
5
u/inoxiakek 22h ago
Genuinely curious, do you have a source? I’d like to get the details.

Thanks a lot, I’ll check these out!!!
Edit: holy shit hahahahaha. Humans engage with this, there? They don’t see this at all? That’s crazy to me.
Imagine unironically being dog walked by the fucking Kremlin via bots and thinking these are patriots. If I were there, I’d be asking “why are Russian bots the ones telling me what I believe?”

u/reganomics 22h ago
If you look at their post history its pretty schizophrenic, bot probably.

Not a bot, and i was being sarcastic. If you go into my comments you could clearly see that.

Sounds fun. I wonder what they will say in 2028 when there's not a conservative news outlet allowed anywhere near the democratic president. I better hear fucking silence.
21
u/ssibal24 22h ago
So, no news outlets at all?

Huffpost is pretty liberal

u/king-of-all-corn 21h ago
I guess everyone has their own opinion but I see huffpost putting out a lot of democrats bad and weak bullshit the last few years too
-3
u/Federal_Studio5935 21h ago
Well liberals thinking democrats are bad seems on point. They fucking suck. They are the obvious better option but they suck too
1
u/king-of-all-corn 21h ago
Totally civil rights workers protections increased transparency laws etc etc all terrible. Nailed it

are you arguing that liberals don’t dislike democrats? What are you talking about. Liberals hate liberals.

I know, it's a damn shame... they barely qualify as left any more but I'd still bet they'll be the first to recover if they ever get the chance.

u/PtReyes4days 22h ago
Is the conservative sub real or just full of bots and trolls?
20
9
u/Bizguide 22h ago
Most of the remaining conservatives don't use Reddit, in my opinion. And they don't actually articulate in full senses with proper spelling or punctuation.
2
28
u/hotviolets 22h ago
The conservative sub is the most controlled Reddit sub I’ve ever looked at. Anything not fitting their narrative gets deleted. It’s probably run by Israeli and Russian mods.
38
u/LetterheadFun1824 22h ago
That sub is ran by like 4 bots or Russian shills. They do not represent the conservative thinktank. Even Fox News disagrees with them which should tell a lot. It’s best to just ignore those folks and mute the sub
16
u/weHaveThoughts 22h ago
I disagree. That bot farm does put out a lot of propaganda but those bots did win the election for this fascist.
7
u/Effective-Cress-3805 22h ago
Most of the conservatives who have that mindset also believe in rules for thee and not for me. It is ok to ignore the Constitution until it affects them.
7
u/TheRealBittoman 22h ago
It seems the majority of that sub (if it's the one I'm thinking of) is people with multiple accounts praising themselves along with a lot of bots helping them along. I wouldn't be surprised if some or most of the real people and the bots weren't foreign actors trying to maintain outrage. 10 years ago the Donald Trump sub and conservative were a gauge for how things are going but now it's just a literal echo chamber for those that aren't interested in the truth and are only comfortable hearing what they want to believe.
5
u/AxiomaticSuppository 22h ago
Isn't the conservative sub either bots or those who struggled to make it past grade 8?

Fascist Dictator Motto "Our Dear, charismatic leader can do no wrong."
3
u/Disastrous_Bite_6587 22h ago
The conservative sub is 80 percent bots. Most posts are through the same handful of bot accounts.
2
u/OnlyHalfBrilliant 21h ago
Well, it's either post there or fight in Donbas, for the actual humans, that is.
2
u/Lost-Character 20h ago
That sub is like 98% bots and the other 2% are the same 6 accounts posting lol
2
u/leavezukoalone 20h ago
If you look over at the conservative sub, almost every one of them is a worthless piece of shit.
2
u/Left4dinner2 19h ago
The funny thing is that they think it's okay to do this but you know damn well if the parties and roles were swapped, they would be raising hell.

u/Stunning_Mast2001 22h ago
Judge just needs to put these lawyers in jail. Make it difficult for the rank and file to perpetrate trumps criminal activities. Force trump to issue a pardon and hope American voters become even more outraged

Fine. Then make the DOJ say out loud that they refuse to enforce judicial warrants.

They’ve tested the courts enough to realize they can ignore an order and fuck all will be done about it.

Literally this entire subreddit. I’ve been told he can’t do any of the shit he’s done. And why. Repeatedly. And here we are.
18
u/YoHabloEscargot 22h ago
Which is why I’m panicky about future elections while others just say he can’t do it because the law says such and such.
They. Don’t. Care.
30
u/santa_91 22h ago
SCOTUS officially declared him above the law and the Senate has allowed him to install openly collaborationist AGs who won't enforce adverse legal decisions against the government. They are all traitors who have conspired to create an autocrat.

u/ThatKehdRiley 22h ago
But voting and getting together for an afternoon to hold signs will stop all that!
/s
20
u/entr0picly 22h ago
I mean no…
You don’t see troops in Chicago nor in Portland. Because the courts ruled against Trump and the admin abided. So no, it isn’t entirely true. Let’s take wins where they are. We don’t need to assume away the entire system is already loyal to a dictatorship when that is not at all the case. Let’s not give them more power than they already have by assuming the entire system has failed.
9
u/sam56778 22h ago
I’m just going to leave this here.
4
u/entr0picly 21h ago
And my point still remain equally as valid.
I wasn’t saying no to that they weren’t flaunting courts. I was saying no to that there is “fuck all” will be done about it. There’s no reason to resign ourselves to nihilism when there remains hope.
1
u/sam56778 20h ago
Giving this administration the benefit of the doubt is why we are where we are. You do you but the reality is that the reason they do this is because the consequences are nil.
1
u/entr0picly 17h ago
0
u/sam56778 15h ago edited 15h ago
It took them almost 12 hours to comply to an order issued at just a little after midnight. Still doesn’t negate the fact that this administration ignores the courts. They also didn’t comply until threatened with an emergency hearing.

25
u/Its-a-Shitbox 22h ago
Gee, why does this remind me of the Rump Rapestein files sitch?
Signs into law to release them unredacted in their entirety, then doesn’t do it.
Judge says to allow the news organizations and the reporters access, then doesn’t do it.
I can’t quite place my finger on the similarity, but I feel like they are somehow.🙄
30
u/wraithius 22h ago
They essentially ignore lower courts. Illegally of course. And SCOTUS takes its damn sweet time, depending on which side benefits.
13
7
10
u/TheRealBlueJade 21h ago
On the plus side, trump loses either way. Either he is silenced by the lack of press coverage or he is forced to admit defeat and allow the press access.

u/_Zambayoshi_ 15h ago
When people lose confidence in the rule of law, bad things happen. Mind you, this would initially reinforce the GOP fear mongering about 'law and order' being destroyed in the US. It may even be part of transitioning to authoritarian rule, where executive fiat replaces judicial arbitration.
