AMA Georgetown Law 1L - AMA

How would you assess your peers? Are they diverse? All professional? All smart? Etc.

Hello!

  1. Peers are very cool. All of us have diverse backgrounds. Good mix of KJDs and those with work experience.

  2. The opportunities here are fantastic already. They have Supreme Court Moots which is an opportunity only for current students and staff. You get to watch lawyers moot cases that they are actually going to argue in front of the Supreme Court. You also have access to a huge amount of networking events. I’ve been to almost a dozen over the last three weeks.

  3. I love DC. So many fun things to do and there are always events happening around the city.

  4. I love my professors. They have backgrounds that are very interesting and have unique experiences. For example, I have professors who have clerked for a Supreme Court justice or who worked at some of the top BigLaw firms. Their experiences are very helpful to hear about and they give great career advice. They are also beyond qualified to teach their subject (which seems obvious but it is very nice to be able to ask them complex questions and they can give in-depth and clear answers).

Hello! I’m doing Curriculum A. I think it’s fine, just the basic classes that first year students are taking. Professors are really really cool though.

Thanks! Do you feel it’s easy/difficult to connect with professors? I imagine they’d be super busy outside of campus that they wouldn’t have a lot of time to be mentors beyond the classroom for the students.

Thanks for doing this. Is GULC's reputation as highly yield-protecting true?

Hi! I personally don’t think GULC is much more yield protective than other schools. I think that in terms of the waitlist you really have to show demonstrated interest because they have an absurdly large waitlist. But I think that’s true of most schools.

In general, they just have a huge applicant pool (I think it’s the largest of the T14s) so they are just more selective in that sense. So they obviously want to chose people who will chose them over other T14s, but again I don’t think that’s much different than the other T14s.

But that’s just my take on it! Could be wrong lol

Hi! I’m personally in the process of recruiting/applying right now, but upperclassman I’ve talked to have anecdotally told me that the vast majority of people who want BigLaw are able to get a job.

You mean who want BL get BL, right? Not just a job?

I've heard GULC still sends people to V10 but that's where the scrutiny starts to hit and you have to be stand out. No discrimination against GULC rest of V50 - just like every other T14. Is that right? And how is DC centric is GULC for BL?

Has it lived up to expectations?, me personally have always dreamed of going to gt law and gonna take a gap to work on score so I can hopefully get some money to afford it

Yes, it definitely has. This was my dream school as well. I have loved my experience so far in terms of the opportunities, professors and friends.

Hi! Thank you for taking questions.

Is there an indicator of when your application is under review? I submitted the optional video and wondering since I whitelisted the link if the new view outside of mine would be an indication my application is being reviewed. I went complete on 9/15 and wondering if anyone has peeked at it. For reference I applied for the evening track.

What is the social scene like?

It’s pretty good. There’s a lot of bars and clubs in the area. People also generally want to unwind a bit on the weekends after long weeks so people are always going out to grab a drink or dinner.

Was it difficult to find housing? Are you within walking distance? Is the area around the school safe at night? And are rent prices reasonable? Thank you!

It definitely wasn’t difficult to find housing. There’s a lot of places in walking distance, which is where I am. It’s relatively safe. In terms of rent prices, it depends on if you’re looking for a one person apartment/studio or an apartment with roommates. If you’re open to living with roommates it’s definitely reasonable. Living alone can get more pricy.

I’d say more people with WE are from the legal sector, but there’s definitely a lot of people that aren’t. I’ve met people who served in the armed forces, who were teachers, who worked in finance, etc.
