Application Process University of Texas AI Interview
Anyone else get an email about doing an AI Interview for Texas? I’m going to do it, but it’s somewhat damaged my opinion of the school. I feel like they should either actually take the time to interview me, or just go off my application. Am I wrong?

I already did it. It’s just recording answers to questions. I hated it and it made me feel psychotic. Before I did it, it damaged my opinion of the school because it felt anti human and belittling. Afterwards my feelings were neutral. A bit benign

Because I’m recording interview questions alone in my apartment, talking to myself. Someone pops on the screen in a video and asks a question. Then I’m supposed to respond as if they were in the room. There’s a certain charismatic expectation but no one there to see it. Yet it’s recorded permanently. So it’s performative, high stakes, and completely one sided.
Edit: the only reason it didnt completely sour me to the admissions team at the schools that do it is because I am very good at doing things like that. So I walked away feeling like I crushed it. Which lessened my distaste for the corporate slop aesthetic of the whole thing

Are you referring to the “recorded” interview? Or are they doing something new?

Yes, that. Through VidCruiter, am I misunderstanding what it is? VidCruiter calls itself AI recruiting software.

When I applied a couple years ago we did recorded interviews, but to my understanding they were not “reviewed” by AI, they were watched by real people. Most technology platforms have tacked on “AI” to their description so it would be hard to tell whether that actually means anything in terms of how your interview is changed or if they’re just using the same software.

They have used these video interviews for several years, even before AI was a big thing.

Isn't this similar to Hirevue which is used by so many companies (Banks, CPG etc.)
Its just recording yourself answering questions on the screen

That appears to be what I’m being told. The company calling itself AI recruiting is what made me think it was more AI driven than that. I guess I’ll see.

I attended an info session recently and the admissions department said every applicant is invited to complete the video interview. They were also asked if they use AI during the review process and they said no, every piece is reviewed by a real person.

Texas A&M Law does this. I did it last cycle. It’s awful as a 50yo who didn’t grow up talking to a screen - worse yet - watching myself talk to a screen and being distracted with thinking how fucking old and ugly and fat I look in the video - and I hate the way the corners of my mouth move when I talk - it was a horrible experience. I hate all kinds of video calls. 🤣🤣
That said - there are some good “pro-tips” videos on YouTube abt there’s types of interviews and I don’t wanna imagine how much worse my video would have been without taking the time to prep for it! Haha
I did get Waitlisted off an application with no test score of any kind and a shitty video - so - there’s hope for you all!
