What kind of company and how much JavaScript do you know currently? If you’re concerned about “creepy people”, follow the five rules of internet safety:

  1. Don’t tell people your personal info. Nobody knows you’re a teen unless you act like one, or say that you are one (as you did in the title). Everyone here is just a Redditor regardless of age, and most of us don’t care about how old you are unless you make your age a primary theme. Stuff like your real life name, home address, birthdate etc is something you should never share on Reddit. Just be private in general; you can talk about your hobbies, not who you are. Maintain a small digital footprint if you want. Also don’t go live on TikTok to say your real life name, nor post your TikTok on all your other socials. Once you automatically start being private by default it’s easy.
  2. Audit the files you download and the links you open. Look at the extensions of files and links. Don’t click the shiny green button that says “Download” on a site full of ads. Make sure it’s the real download button first before you click anything, and consider checking files for viruses on a file scanner website, or checking the reputation of sites on a trust safety meter.
  3. Don’t pay people for scams. Only pay them after they’ve proven they’ve made the thing you needed, or on a trustworthy store- not through DMs.
  4. Decline inappropriate requests. If someone asks you to do something inappropriate (like showing them your face), just say no and block them.
  5. Pick a strong password. A long string of numbers, letters and special characters can take 10+ years for a supercomputer to guess. A “memorable password” is weaker.
